    Brilliant explanation between the two types of material. Loved the Moldovite. I’m glad you explained that there are a lot of Moldovite stimulants doing the rounds.
    Thanks for sharing.

    I love the episode, so much to learn. I wonder if you can show a fake vs real moldavite close up under magnification on screen?

    I’ve recently just purchased a faceted Moldavite ring and I love it! I don’t usually like green gems but there’s something about it. I’m also after a slab of Pallasite ❤

    I love both meteorites and tektites. This video did a good job of explaining the difference and showing some major types of tektites. The libyan desert glass is that beautiful yellowish color that is considerably chunkier than the moldavite. And both are really expensive. I have a couple meteorites but I do not have any libyan dessert glass or moldavite in my collection, and I'm going to have to remedy that situation soon! Thank you both for the presentation, it was excellent and easy to understand!❤

    Thanks for the video...I'm trying to find info on lechatelierite lines to help me identify if my tektites are authentic...nothing showing up on the web. Am I understanding that word correctly?

    Ever since I learned about lunar meteorites, I've wanted to get my hands on some. I figure its not cheap or easy to come by though! Apparently you can only really get it from the Sahara cause the Antarctic lunar meteorites are all saved for science, and the lack of magnetic signature makes it hard to find in places without good visual contrast. I know it makes perfect logical sense that pieces of the moon would make it to Earth, but its still crazy to think that you can own a piece of the Moon which is of course often visible yet feels so distant, that was blasted into space and crashed back down to Earth.

    I would have liked to see a shot of the pallasitic peridot backlit, especially after you mentioned that it looks good when sliced so thin precisely because it allows light through.

    What's really weird about the Indochinite is that we still don't know what crater produced them. The australasian strewnfield is huge (like 10-30% of earths surface huge) and less than a million years old so there must be an enormous crater somewhere in China or Vietnam that's barely eroded.
    Also tektites are not pure or even mostly silicon dioxide (some of them not even half) but approximate the composition of the rocks that have been hit by the asteroid. You'd only expect SiO2 in tektites from a continental impact, an impact on oceanic crust or continental overlain with lots of carbonate rocks will produce tektites made from olivine, pyroxene and calcium rich feldspar instead. The latter case is what happened at the end of the cretaceous and it fooled Walter Alvarez into looking for a crater in the ocean for nearly a decade

    Probably the rarest Tektite of all is Zhamanshinite. Very little of it is facetable, and thankfully I managed to find 3 that were. They are remarkable and very exotic Gemstones.

    I was up in Oregon hunting fossils and on my way I found 100s of what looks like welding slag. But that doesn't make sense to me. Since it was over a 1/4 long on logging road and I collected several chunks

    Heya! Loving the channel, i never miss an episode! Would you know if monatomic andara crystals are legit (natural formed glass) or is it all a scam? Would love to hear from the experts!

    • @gems
      @gems  10 місяців тому

      We have not seen one yet, but from what we've read, it seems highly questionable that it would be naturally formed material.

    Czech name for moldavite is vltavín but both names are from name of river Vltava(Moldau in german). It's illegal to mine this glass because people dig huge holes in forests and fields. There is movie about these illegal miners named "Green Horse Rustlers"

    I posted a comment about pallasitic peridot making reference to foods which it resembled and it was deleted because it included a random link to a publicly listed recipe, incase Rob or Rebecca might want to try it. Beware, people. Not cool, especially if the rules on commenting are not posted. 👎

      We did not delete it. Sometimes UA-cam will automatically flag things they think are spam. Often embedddd links will trigger that. I’ll look for it in our spam folder and post it if I find it.

      No they aren't. They are formed form meteorite impact. It is molten earth. Might find trace amount of meteorite in it, but it will be so little you won't see it.
