Happy new year to you and your loved ones too. We were waiting patiently for some new content. So no stress, happy you are ok. Greetings from the Netherlands.
As an engineering Toolmaker, CNC programmer operator I Can already tell you without even seeing it that "it will NOT be 100 % accurate circle milling a bore. use a boring bar mate.
Glad you are taking some time to blow the rust off instead of just jumping in. I agree the last year or 2 were strange. For me, the last 2 years with the pandemic, getting injured in a car accident, and death of a couple family members, I'm only now feeling like my old self, and getting interested in my work/hobbies again. Its been tough, but I feel human again. 2024 is going to be one for the books Alex. I can feel it.
I have a saying: "Don't apologize for the space you take up." Take care of yourself, be good to yourself and the rest will follow. You don't owe us anything. Here's to 2024!
I have made several large sine plate that enable quick angular presenations of the part to the machine. If you add a few tool balls with known centers it is easy to orient the part to the spindle. You could also mount a small dividing head or rotary table to the sine plate to rotate the part. With the sine plate using two planer gauges to set the height is very quick. You use CAD which makes the sine plate and tool balls easy math. I agree some one with 5 axis CNC is a great way to go but like you I don't have one of those.
Hi Alex, this may be a stupid suggestion, but how about using tapered bits for the port angles at the top and bottom edges? This would complicate the programming (and add two cutters) but simplify to being able to use your 3-axis machine. Anyway, imagine using a bit tapered to a smaller diameter for the top edge of the exhaust port and a bit tapered to a larger diameter for the bottom of the exhaust port along with a straight bit for the vertical edges. Of course the corners of the bottom of the exhaust port would/might need to be hand finished but that would be a small bit of work. I am excited to see how you sort this out.
Maybe its time to cast another cylinder with all the known faults fixed if you are using a sleeve anyway. If I remember correctly then surface finish of the bore and plating were the issues why you had it 3d printed and professionally coated? In that case the sleeve will cover those issues.
It might be better to use the sleeve platform to get the precise dimensions figured out. He mentioned in the past that the resolution of the printer wasn't good enough to get the precise port heights he needed.
Good Job Alex. Stay warm... I am sure the viking with the 5 axis CNC would be helping you soon....thanks goes out to him. Nice score on obtaining more materials and a new hat. I am glad you will CNC...this way the ports are exactly what you define.. Then you can do some minor hand deburr... Take care Stay warm
Hang in there man. It’s been cold everywhere. I live in Houston and we just had almost a week of below freezing, it’s so abnormal the city shut down schools and such. Absolutely insane weather. You seem somewhat like me in some ways so I’ll share this with you. Today is a gift called the present and there will no only one. Things that work toward diminishing the gratitude we should have for the gift must be worthy of the missing gratitude. Life is complicated because we lose focus and see trees instead of forests. The KISS method works for a reason and the best solutions remove the problem entirely. If you have to build a log cabin by hand then build it. I watched and I thought it was something that not many people today could do. In fact if you had not done it you may not have known if you could do it. Some times people get constipated and can’t do $#!+. Other times people get diarrhea and can’t stop doing $#!+. I hope you get where I’m going. Don’t fight yourself too much unless that is who you want to be. Whatever you nourish will grow. Good or bad. Hang in there brother.
Change your goals! To hell with the most powerful two stroke in 2024. that salt lake was there for thousands of years and it will be there whenever you are ready. I'm watching just because you don't give up and even if you did I'd watch whatever you built next. I'm all about Most Powerful 2 Stroke 50 Whenever it happens" Best wishes to you friend
It's just as fun watching all of his ideas, gadgets and tools Alex makes on his way to the most powerful 2 stroke. So many cool projects. Alex is for sure an inventor and an inspiration to us all.
That's crazy cold stay warm over there... and I always think it's a good idea to take it easy the first few weeks back in the shop awesome to see you back
Brrrrr! Thanks for bringing us up to date! You're trying to break new ground and that is never easy! Especially when the ground is frozen solid! All the very Best!
We all feel your pain dude, a lot of us are in the same boat mentally. You don't need to apologize and we appreciate the entertainment you offer. If it helps to know, your videos help me get through what I have on my plate
Thank you for the video Alex! I love what your doing. Its normal to feel down.. especially in the cold of winter. Here in Canada its -20 degrees Celsius for a couple weeks and it definitely is a huge drag on the mental.
I say 3D print a sleeve and practice machining on it so when the real thing comes and if you still have to use your machines, you will know what to do.
Happy New Year ! .. yeah the weather is going crazy lately, i live in germany and we had so much snow in the northern part (where it normally doesnt snow as much) .. bought myself a giant 2 stroke rc buggy, the day it arrived this snowy mess started and it just won't stop -.-" last night more snow fell than the 2 years before combined, its ridiculous
Had a frozen tank in my loft work shop. I got an old quilt and wrapped it around the tank . If you set your aquarium heater to low level it should keep it liquid. But don't forget pipes freeze as well. Good luck and thanks for your work on video.
I, and from my skimming of comments, everyone else, am (are?) digging taking the journey along with you. We rejoice in the discoveries, lament the setbacks, and admire your courage and tenacity at whatever pace they come along. While I try to watch each video immediately, I sometimes miss one for a while, this video has been up for five days already, and I have just now found it. Shit happens. Reality frequently illustrates its utter lack of regard for our plans, hopes, and goals. Thank you for sharing your project with us, and above all, thank you for being, for lack of a better term, real.
Thank You for outlining the machining challenges Alex. We appreciate the time and efforts You spend on Your videos. Best Wishes to You and Your Family.
Hey! There's no need to apologize to us. You're doing an absolute great job. I honestly envy your passion and commitment to your projects. I have learned A LOT from watching your videos. Anything can be done, if you set your mind to it. You look like you don't like asking for help, but we're all invested in this project! There's no need to feel bad. You created this community of people interested in 2 strokes. I've been following you for around 4 years now and you should be proud of yourself. Not only for your achievements and knowledge of 2 strokes but also for your personal development! You do what you want whenever you want it! Great job with your video's, keep it up! Greetings from the Netherlands
You guys are real men. I don't want to go out to my shed when temp is getting down towards zero. I have never had anything freeze up in the shed & I don't even have a heater in there. Alex you will just have to build the mill you want. you build everything else!
Take it easy and chill we all have bad days it takes a lot to get restarted and carry on I enjoy all your videos no matter what the content most informative and fun thank you
Great to have you back! Heck, I would watch you sweep the floor! We just enjoy your time so much and it is not boring ever. I'm sounding a little bit like you in my daily tasks and love your can do attitude. You have been such a positive influence on my life! Cold weather is tough on your shop stuff, be careful with that heater because it is quietly using up all the oxygen in the room, carbon monoxide is a silent killer.
Like everyone else, i look forward to the end of the week. Friday after work is the best time, cold beer and a new episode from Two stroke Stuffing. I really enjoy your videos and yor project!
I got super excited when I saw the notification that you posted a new video! No apologies necessary man, do this thing at your own pace, stuff and things come up and slow things down and that's totally understandable.
Hey, just wanted to say I hope you manage to get things worked out. There's always a path, it's just harder to see it sometimes and taking a step back, looking from a different perspective can reap rewards. I Always find your videos informative and entertaining and can't wait for the next one, but make sure you take the time you need to. Best wishes.
Happy New Year Alex!! I’m glad you’re not going ahead with the fixtures and hand work. Waiting for someone to help out with a 5 axis machine is the better decision. See you next time.
Bro no worries on the delay, but i did say the other day hmm.. no 2 stroke stuffing vids??? I figured you had some delaying issues. The major plus of reusing that cylinder is its well seasoned from all the heat cycles, not sure if anyone took that into consideration. Hopefully some can help you out with the machining, I feel ya on that struggle of knowing you can accomplish something but its always the dreaded not having the proper equipment or funds to purchase said equipment, you have a great group of followers who would be more than honored to lend a hand to help. No need to apologize! Thanks for sharing. Once again watching from across the pond in ohio usa.❤
Its tough to get motivated in the shed / garage on cold winter days in the UK, I can only imagine how much harder it is during such a cold winter, so well done for making some progress.
Winter's short days always slow me down. The head says go and the body's just not at full power. Presistancy will reward you. The light bulb will shine and "Ahah it now makes sense" will happen. Heal well.
Glad to see you back it's been awhile since last video. Have you ever considered keeping a log of everything you do and include photos on your computer for reference to past changes and the results of whatever happened.
I feel you on the cold, i cant get to tp work on much , at least in the way of video production. You should look into indexing heads . Cheaper than an other axis but just as accurate . You would have to do it in seperate cuts , but it would be easy enough to be super accurate .
If the height of the sleeve is long enough, you could machine some slots on its small end like a castle nut, and use them to keep it aligned while you work on the ports.
while we really appreciate the apology it is NEVER needed. You letting us into your world to follow along with your projects is a privilege and I, and I suspect so many others, are very thankful for. I hope the pressure that being on youtube with almost 200k subscribers is alleviated in at least a little bit by knowing that. I want you to be happy and healthy in order to enjoy working on your projects and if that requires you to take how ever long it is to get to that place then so be it. I would much rather have you happy making videos then not. All the best to you in norway from the midwest usa. wishing you continued success this year.
No apologies needed friend, we all know how a mental fog can be and dealing with a project that youd been working on for awhile to suddenly fail after trying to fix things can be frustrating. But learning from what failed and make it better is all we can do. Love your videos and projects.

Happy new year to you and your loved ones too. We were waiting patiently for some new content. So no stress, happy you are ok. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Love following your projects. I have learned a great deal from them. Keep up the good work bud.

Keep the faith Alex. Cheers from South Australia. BTW 43 c here today.
I think going the route with a liner is the best. It opens up more possibilities for experimenting with port designs.

i really hope you will find someone, really looking forward to see this engine build

Damn that is cold. -35C = -31F. It's been 10F to 0F here in Midwest, damn dishwasher keeps freezing up. Your house insulation must be like a 30+cm.
With those temperatures ,wow, getting goings must be a bit harder👍👍well done

Yo u are doing fine bro .. Take care of yourself first .. we have been frozen in for the last week as well
Progress is progress. Keep at it, mentally and fysically.
it was freezing as fugg!!! here in arizona two weeks ago we got down in the 20's. hearing 70 below is mind boggingin!
Great approach. Thank you
Glad to see you back.

If you get really clever you can 3D print jigs to hold tooling at complicated angles. I've done it for cutting my powervalves.
it's bad that I immediately recognized 6.35mm as 1/4 inch, the wall thickness was done in imperial.
Great to see you. Don’t be sorry. We can wait. 🙂
