Restaurant Delivers Food & Drinks By Model Train!

- This restaurant looks like my kind of place! They deliver food and drinks from their kitchen to your table via G-scale model trains.
I was watching model train videos on UA-cam one day and the thought popped in to my head to search and see if there were any UA-cam videos of bars or restaurants that use model trains to deliver food and drinks. It turns out there are!
While there certainly are restaurants in the United States that use a similar concept, I decided to share this particular video with you because the restaurant used what's known as a "Creative Commons" license when they posted this to their UA-cam channel. This means it's legal for me to use their video on my channel without any concerns of copyright violations.
I decided to keep this video very short and simple... just so you could see these very cool model trains at work at the Vytopna restaurant on Wenceslas Square in Prague, the capital city of the Czech republic.
"Sorry, this table is not open. The tracks are under maintenance."
Covid Maintenance
I love it!
*_EPIC PUN_*
There is a replacement bus service!
This is so cool
Applied for the job as a waiter: Gives you a uniform: a whistle, a shovel and overalls.
But u have to shrink first
I feel like it could be slightly more than that. Using a DCC system and assigning locomotives to sections. Then you have an automated hump yard in the kitchen (Using the table programming, so each table, or at least each server's section, gets it's own track, and the cooks just set the cars on the auto-railer together, using a digital table-number display, and when the whole meal is on the rails, they push the deliver button, and a loco from the siding gets assigned that table, grabs the train from the yard, and takes it to the table. Instead of driving forward onto the table though, it would go past the switch and back onto the table, putting the cars against a bumper. Put two tracks on each table for larger orders, and then a DCC decoupler at the entrance to the table. Then the computer does the food delivery, people remove their plates/drinks from the train, and after say...5 minutes...to give the customer time to collect their meal from the train, it takes away the empty train and returns to the kitchen, where it backs the train into a dish-yard. Decouples the train and returns the loco to the siding. Run the track as a giant loop so the only times an engine is pushing is on the tables and in the yards. Then the kitchen staff can take cars from the dish-yard, plate them, and send them back out.
@@NikkiTheOtter Agreed. It appears it's timed, so for that big load of beer at the beginning, it was leaving regardless of cargo unload. Would be interesting if they could install sensors, or a "we're done" button so they don't risk spilling beer which would cause Thomas much consternation.
Well that's a take on "No Contact Delivery" I wouldn't have thought of. 😀
Covid is probably what it would take to get this past the ABC and health boards rules in the US today. I recall a place trying this decades ago and alcohol/beverage control said NO. It required a certified server to carry drinks to the table, no exception. They claimed a kid could grab a drink.
Can't this be solved by installing transparent tunnels over the tracks? Opening only near the table and kitchen
take note us restrants! i want a model rail restuant in the us!!!!
Now this is train people dream here.
now your speaking the facts

Jim: this restaurant is not in the United States
Me: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
It’s the same for me when its not in My Country 😥
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH
I had the same though. *cries*
If you love near Wisconsin I would recommend buffalo Phil’s
Same with me bro
No way. You have no idea how long I have thought of this concept. Ever since I was a little kid I always thought of how cool it would be to have a restaurant deliver food either just on a conveyor belt or some type of train. I always thought it would be impossible, but I still have always thought about it. Holy crap. I just can't believe someone actually did it. Literally, my whole life, I've dreamed of this. And it's done it pretty much the exact way I thought about it, with one long track spanning across multiple tables, and having switch tracks to deliver to the one table. I just always thought it would be terribly inefficient, but that looks like a solid layout. It never occured to me to have stair and catwalks over the track, which is why I always thought it was impossible. That settles it. If I ever open a restaurant, and gosh I hope someday I do, it will be just like this. One of my childhood dreams fully realized.
Mom: don't play with your food!
Me:
I remember my dad taking me to a place like this in a Chicago suburb circa 1954. It was not as large, just a diner really, and the trains were O-gauge Lionel. There was just a big loop of track that came out of the kitchen, went around all three sides of a big U shaped dining counter, and disappeared back into the kitchen. Having your burger delivered by train on a flat car was a big thrill for an 8 year old train lover.
You know what would make this experience even more memorable? Having Thomas and Friends models serving there for kids and adults alike to enjoy their presence.😉
Thomas actually did deliver food in this restaurant a few years ago, but I believe he has been put out of service (likely due to licensing issues).
This was definitely a missed opportunity for Mattel, not to mention all the companies that make Thomas & Friends model trains for a huge cash grab, I mean what's better than eating at a Thomas themed restaurant, eating Thomas/whoever shaped food, sent to you by Thomas himself or one of his friends?
@@KukaakToo much confusion and delay
Pure genius! What really makes it for me is the actual train sounds. It's even COVID friendly because there's minimal direct contact with people. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve heard of “social distancing,” but this is intense! Cool.
We (my boyfriend and I) spent the Christmas 2018 in Prague. And did we go to this restaurant? Oh yes, we did! It was really funny to watch the trains serving the food and drinks. The menu contained mainly burgers and fries. The food was freshly made, and tasted good.
So, basically: If you ever go to Prague, visit this restaurant - it’s great fun!
COOL- thanks for the info!!
When I was a kid in the early 60s, there was a hamburger place just north of Baltimore that had an O gauge train that brought your food from the kitchen around the counter and stopped in front of you. I thought it was like magic even though we had trains at home. It was called "Hamburger Junction". Thanks for bringing back those memories.
I've literally dreamed of a restaurant like this. Would hope the food is top-notch too, and that the trains aren't just a gimmick.
Seattle used to have a restaurant that did this, it was called the Iron Horse but it closed in 2000 due to a lack of foot traffic due to the demolition of the King Dome.
cool there's a place in Kansas City that called Fritz and the way they deliver is by trains as well
I've been there too its awesome
‘I don’t think where in Kansas anymore Toto’

Actually a decent idea. I believe that the Czech Republic is one of the more affordable places for telecommuting in Europe.
I have to say This is the coolest thing I've ever seen in a restaurant
I've seen something like this happen before on TV, a restaurant delivering it's meals by model trains, but it impresses me even more, seeing it actually happening in real life! That is pretty awesome.
I'd call this either "The Sidings" or "Dinner Express"
„Chew Chew Train“ could also be fine.
I'd like another Down the Tracks
That would be 'Expresní večeře' in Czech, and the similar 'Expresná večera' in Slovak (both languages are widely spoken in both countries and are considered mutually intelligible).
I think it should be called “The Food Sidings”
@@samanli-tw3id loo good pun
This is beyond amazing, my dad has a similar idea like this when he gets his dream home, and it I can't wait for him to see this video
Nice!
Waiter: we are essential workers!!!!

Perfect for table service during a pandemic!
I'm from the Czech Republic and when you go around for a beer, it's great there!!!
I really hope someone opens a restaurant like this in the US.
I think there is actualy, someone said there shall be one in Kansas City.
These exist
Fritzs Kansas City mo.
There used to be one in Washington state. Don't recall what city
1954 "The Yum Yum Shop" Valley Steam NY at the corner of Emerson Place and Merrick road.
It was a luncheonette, served food as you sat at the counter.
I was 5 and go there to watch the delivery train.
Oh this is so cool. I think in Kansas City there is a restaurant like that. I remember I went there. The trains come down the tracks and drops the food to your table. It is really cool!!

I will be 80 years young later in January 2021. I well remember a few such model railroads in New York City and State restaurants back when I was a kid in the late 1940’s through the 1950’s. The only one I remember the location of was here on Long Island in Huntington Long Island, NY. I’ve been a model railroader ever since.
Happy Birthday in advance Ken! Don't forget to make time for your model trains on your birthday.
This reminded me of that gravy train in Coraline. So cool!
That was awesome! Thanks for sharing.
@Tammy 1960 BEYOND AWESOME!!!!!!!!
There’s a Restaraunt in the Us in Wis Dells Called Buffalo Phil’s That has 15 Trains Running food And Beverages And I Love it Want to Go Back Soon.
Didn't even know about this 😐
There is a bar named Down the Tracks in Michigan.
Some Pizza King locations (Indiana Pizza Franchise) deliver your drink order by train. Some even had video games at each booth to play as well. Pretty cool place to go to as a kid
There used to be a pub in Seattle called the Iron Horse that did this. Sadly, they're long gone.
I saw the turnouts. That’s an elaborate dispatching programme.
That is awesome to have model trains in a restaurant!
Gotta say that is so creative. In this COVID era these would be so useful and bloody good fun just in general. Fellow Briton here
Imagine sitting down at a table and a model train pops up to deliver you food and drinks. That’s possibly the best idea yet.
There's a pizza place in my area that also does this. I love the idea!!
Edit: Well now that I have seen that the trains are transporting adult beverages, I guess this is an American version of The Island of Sodor
That is so amazing.
My favorite Reastaurant already!! Very cool
Too bad it's SOOOO far from the US!
This place is amazing
Reminds me of a scene from a simpsons episode when a model train brought beer to the customers of moes tavern.
"chug chug chug chug"
In the late 1950's to early 1960's we had a diner called the Hamburger Express in the Parkchester section of Bronx NY. The diner had a O guage Lionel trains and the flat cars were setup to carry plates with whatever you ordered. Unfortunately, it went out of business in the early 1960's but I will never forget it as being a kid at the time and loving Lionel trains made it one of the most special memories of my childhood. I wonder if the guy who started this place ever went to the Hamburger Express and got the idea from there.
Wow that's sound fun and very clever way to served food and drinks using model trains, it's also a brillant ideas for like during covid 19 distance in the restaurant 👍.
Years ago Seattle had a restaurant named The Iron Horse that used trains to deliver your food order to your table. Appropriately the restaurant was located a block away from King Street Station.

My Dad would have loved that place. Thank you Jim for sharing!
My table was so far from the kitchen it seemed like a two day journey for my beer to arrive! LOL!!
I love this. I would frequent the hell out of a place like this if they had one in Orlando FL area. Thanks for posting. Happy Christmas to you and yours.

Very entertaining and fun to watch. Thanks for posting this.
You have quite a few of them in India in Bangalore Hyderabad and other cities. Its every model railway enthusiasts dream come true to see a train flawlessly deliver food by stopping right in front of your table.
Great to see something I'd thought of in the past - food and drink delivered by train......beats conveyor belt sushi restaurants!
First time watching your videos - you have a wonderful narration voice!
Been there and the smaller version in Vienna. I shall be visiting again in just over two weeks. Can't wait!
What a delightful flare for whimsy. :)

That is just unbelievable! Fantastic
I live in Prague and have eaten there. Once we had business visitors from Canada, and one of them heard of this restaurant where trains deliver the food. I didn´t know about it at that time and was quite amazed when I got there. Very fun idea. :)
This is a fantastic idea for Covid-19 table service dayum, when I go back to work in my local I'm going to mention it to my boss
That's insanely awesome. I wonder if this idea came from the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
I have seen a similar concept used at a Sushi restaurant! Thanks for sharing!
Just too cool, would love to dine there.
YEARS AGO (we're talking, like mid-1950's) there was a restaurant in a suburb of Baltimore, MD, called Hamburger Junction. The counter had meal delivery via "O"-gauge trains - plates, platters, drinks, even you check if you wanted. The booths weren't on the line (I don't know if the owner never got around to them or what).
By the mid-Sixties, the rough crowd had chased out the family trade, and the trains went away. But it was fun while it lasted.
Imagine If Some Train Engineers Like a Driver or Fireman Also Work in This Resturant in Their Off-Time
It will be amazing ngl...
Nice railway layout.loads of detail.
The "Hamburger Express" operated for years during the fifties and sixties in Great Neck NY. Delivered burgers to customers sitting at the lunch counter.
Great idea ! Stay safe ! Greetings from The Netherlands.
Thank you! Greetings from Australia
Thanks for the 🍻 just came for the model train set that carrying your 🍻 to your table.
Hamburger Junction, in Carney, MD - a suburb of Baltimore - was doing this 60 years ago. I loved it as a kid.
Back in 1978, in Haiti there was a similar establishment on the road to the airport from Port-au-Prince called the Choo-Choo Restaurant. Haven't been back since but some how I doubt it survived the many troubles that have plagued the place.
Their is one in Wisconsin that I used to go too. They even deliver their food by model train
Mum: 'Why do you want to go to the Czech Republic?'
Me: 'Train deliver burger to table'
Locomotives delivery in restaurants, MIND BLOWNING 🤯
Thats A Cool Resturant And Very Creative btw The Sound of the Steam Locomotive
Sounded Realistic!!
We need to have a restaurant like this in the USA because its great for covid and social distance. It looks fun also.
they have a big brain so even if we have corona they could still serve it like this very smart restaurant
I’ve been to a restaurant called “the cho-cho” that has this kind of system. It is in Illinois
Its like the train version of that cafe from girls und panzer
Ah, fellow cultured man
i saw the tracks for the tables by the window and had freaking flashbacks to how adorable that was.
This is terrific because where I live in England my grandmother told me that steam trains stopped in 1998. I am currently 18 and I take the train to college and 30 years ago I would have traveled to college by steam or electric trains.
I’m getting flashbacks of a scene from Thunderbird 6. Alan, Parker, Tintin and Lady Penelope are at this restaurant, and a model steam train rolls up to their table with their food.
The Whistle Stop Inn. “It’s such a cute idea.”
Very good memory, i did the same comment, but not so precise.

this is what is called something new and creative 😎👍
Seattle used to have a restaurant like this called the Iron Horse,, unfortunately it closed in 2000 due to a loss of foot traffic due to the demolition of the King Dome. The place was in the Pioneer Square neighborhood and was just steps from King St Station and Seattle Union Station and the waterfront streetcar which was taken out in 2005 to make room for the Olympic Sculpture Park.
No matter where Czech is every train fan love to see this model train running from clip ?
We have same thematic restaurant in Budapest hungary. As a train fanatic its good to see how restaurants improve creavity
If you're ever in Kansas City, MO, be sure to check out Fritz's Railroad Restaurant inside Crown Center. Fritz's has been a KC staple since 1954. It's a remarkable system and a lot of fun to watch.
Added to my bucket list!
been in that kind of place a week ago, St.Petersburg, Russia. My kid was blown away.
I was in that place when i was little... It's called Výtopna ... I was fascinated by the trains delivering beer and Kofola (czech cola)... there even was thomas the tank engine! Good old memories....
Omg, this is far out fabulous! I promote this as video of the year, by far, definitely! love this incredible idea, wow, I'm truly amazed, and then some
I'd be extremely tempted to steal one of the trains...I love trains and this setup is awesome
Awesome video Jim 👍 thanks for sharing it..
"Thomas had never seen such beautiful restaurant before"
That's really amazing! A restaurant that delivers food and drinks by model trains!
I have this capability on my garden railroad in California. A container car will hold five Manhattan glasses and/or you can use the containers (with tops cut off and plastic inserts made to fit) for dips or veggies. I have wood chip cars for potato chips, pretzels, etc.
They were halfway up the hill when the coupling snapped. The trucks giggled and sang "we've broken away, we've broken away"
In the US, Old Saybrook CT, there’s a station (active) and a pizza place right next to it called PizzaWorks with trains running around all throughout the walls, ceiling, etc. and there’s even an HO scale layout on the upstairs! Get their cheese pizza and put some of the Parmesan on your table on it. Delicious
Kind of brings back memories of your video where you had a Coke delivered to you by train. I remember seeing a video like this a couple years back, but I'm not sure if it was the same place. I wonder if these folks have a designated employee who just runs the trains to make sure the orders go to the right table? Talk about a dream job!
There was a coke commercial where a train delivers coke to a township, and at the head of the train was the famous NKP 765.
There are two restaurants of this kind in prague for anyone wondering. Both Vytopna. The one in Wenceslas Square, and the other in the Palladium Shopping Center
Beer there, done that. The food is awesome too. Prag is an absolute GoTo city...
