I enjoyed this! As a long time collector (51+ Years) I always use several backing boards for my comics(You will, at some point in your collecting, drop a book or two) and only into Mylites or mylites2. No light on the books is spot on! I do use tape, but I reverse the tape on itself so when the book is pulled out, no tape would come in connect with the book! (I love the FF#1 story by the way as a friend of mine did it with a JIM#83 40+ years ago!) Ouch!!!
Re: the dessicant in the comic folio. You could always tape the dessicant to the inside of the lid so it's out of the way of the comics, but still able to work its magic.
For anyone who does want to wall display comic books. Comic book One Touch are great for that. They can be hung or mounted with ease and they display very nicely.
I'm not a collector myself, but was looking for info on how to frame and display them and tho I'm a bit sad to learn that I shouldn't do it, I really appreciate all info and knowledge shared! It was very educational! The comic community is so cool and there's so much love and care going on to preserve these stories! Congrats on the channel
For those that buy a lot of comics on line those gemini comic mailers are great for protecting your comics when storing them in your back pack at cons or flea markets.
Lanvin/Brian what are you thoughts of the Fortesss Comic Preservation slab vs. CGC slab? Kept some notable childhood comics in Fortress slabs....think they are worthwhile keeping them IF i am not CGC grading them?
Living in the valley out here, I'm sure you guys know about our summers! I have all of my collection in my garage that I built into a room. The room is insulated, but it doesn't have the central air in there. I have a plug in LG air unit, and I also added a dehumidifier last year as well. Love seeing you guys on UA-cam! Keep it up! And if you guys open up a forth location, I'd like to apply for manager! (I do have a BS in Business Management!) :)
Awesome video! When storing one comic per bag/board, do you recommend storing them facing each other, as opposed to all facing one direction, to avoid spine roll? I've seen a couple of videos suggesting this method, but I'm not sure how much of a difference it actually makes long-term.
@@A1ComicsINC that's what i do, stagger the boxes. Funny because as a kid i reversed my little stacks every few and made a big difference in my PC from early 70's, i left them 40 years without even looking.
When storing comics in a box, is it ok for them all to face the same direction? I have heard from some people that you should alternate upside down or even facing each other every other book.
Those silica packs, every time i get a medicine bottle with the cylinder shaped ones, or pouches, I've just tossed them on top of box, IYO that's harmful?
Awesome video. Do you have any recommendations for storing the square bound books of the 70's? My early DC Shazam collection is a tough fit in modern / bronze bags but they seem too loose in the silver age bags. Are there any other options?
Thanks for the Pro tips! I just recently started double booking my bags. You mentioned specifically using the fully acid free boards (half backs and full backs) for older books (pre 1990). Do you not see the same yellowing or negative effect on newer books? Maybe because paper type changed?
Can someone help answer this question? I have so much problem with CGC new slabs. 8 out of 10 books shipped gets damaged with the book sliding in the case. The damages varies from front cover separating from staples, dent corners, fold edges and crack spine. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to deal with this serious CGC slab defects? Sooner or later CGC is going to get a class action lawsuit for their defective case.
In your opinion how snug should the comic be in the bag and board. I recently bought mylites for modern books but had to almost force the comic in and am worried that it’s putting tension on book.
If you can afford them, they are the way to go. They are solid protection and they don’t wrinkle over time like polypropylene bags. I have a small number of Mylites in my collection that I placed some specific stickers on over 30 years ago, which allows me to identify them easy... and they still look exactly like they did over 30 years ago. They are a bit more expensive but you never really need to replace them due to age.
I need help guys. Im from europe and the comics I have are 17cm x 26cm. Im going to purchase mylite 2 bags with full-back boards but I have trouble with the sizes. Are the 7 X 10 1/2 BAGS and 6 3/4 X 10 1/2 BOARDS the right size? Or should the boards be 7 X 10 1/2 aswell? Or am I completely off here?
I've been collecting since the 70's and to this day I have yet to use a single board. I've stored all of my books in 4 mil mylar bags and loosely stored them in boxes. I just don't see any advantage to using a board if the mylar bag is rigid enough to protect the book from damage and I don't like the idea of anything touching the book other than the mylar itself. Maybe I'm unconventional but my books still look great after being stored that way for 40+ years. Yeah, it costs more for the bags and you end up needing more boxes than had you packed them in tighter but considering their value, it's well worth the extra cost.
For some reason I thought I shouldn't be putting two comics per bag and board. I always thought that would damage them! Then I'd wonder why they wouldn't sit evenly in my box! Ugh I feel like such an idiot. Better late than never I guess!
Did you learn anything from Brian's tips? if so share down below!
*If you store 2 books per bag, the back cover image of the book on the rough side of the backer board can partially transfer onto the board itself.*
Do you have links to the boards for both aged books?
I had no idea what do with any of this before this video lol
I have a bunch of silver era comics I bought years ago at a garage sale. Wish I would have seen this years ago
the full board two book trick with a mylar is what I learned and the fact that you don't need acid free boxes necessarily
Thanks so much for that Avery dots tip truley I wish more people on the scene used them
One of the moat informative and useful vids...EVER! Gonna use the 2 comics per bag trick from now on.

Glad to see you pack 2 books to a bag. I do the same. These things are expensive.

Very informative. Thanks for doing this.
Thank you!
Thank you for the advice, very useful for helping me learn how to store my 2000ad comics. :)
amazing presentation !

Great video and Information. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see you guys hopefully soon.
spine roll brought me here {YIKES} good tips thank you
Great video on storage, seen a lot of vids, this is the best one by far!!!!
"You know she's out there stepping on your comic boxes to get up to the ceiling. She's not using a step ladder." 😂😂😂 Great advice and great video!

amazing content A-1 Comics. I shattered that thumbs up on your video. Maintain up the high-quality work.

What about hardcovers and large art books? I don't own many issues. Mostly tpbs that don't fit in the plastic bags
Lanvin/Brian what are you thoughts of the Fortesss Comic Preservation slab vs. CGC slab? Kept some notable childhood comics in Fortress slabs....think they are worthwhile keeping them IF i am not CGC grading them?
Love your videos. Love your live sales. How long will a board last for comics? When should you change it out?
roughly 10 years for most boards
This is all great, but how do you protect your comics from fire/flood/theft/etc? And Im not talking about insurance, although that is a must for sure.
Yep, I see a lot of CGC books with faded covers. Quite common I think.

Great info!!! Thanks!!!
Great video!

facing each other is a good option if you do not want them to share a bag, its a better method than having them all face one direction in a tight box.
@@A1ComicsINC that's what i do, stagger the boxes. Funny because as a kid i reversed my little stacks every few and made a big difference in my PC from early 70's, i left them 40 years without even looking.
The comic folios are pretty great.
What is a good size bag and board for silver age if you put 2 comics in it?
if i use fullbacks on all comics, Will I still have to rotate them to avoid spine-roll??
Solid video and presentation. Who are those great-looking actors?
Damn I need to put boards on my books asap!
Great video guys!!!
When storing comics in a box, is it ok for them all to face the same direction? I have heard from some people that you should alternate upside down or even facing each other every other book.
Hello, what’s the ideal humidity range for storing your books? Thanks in advance
I'll go two-sided next bag change. How often do you change bags? Ty
He you guys,
It's necessary to wrap omnibuses with plastic bags ( free acid ), or not really?
Thx
Those silica packs, every time i get a medicine bottle with the cylinder shaped ones, or pouches, I've just tossed them on top of box, IYO that's harmful?

Excellent video. Thank you so much.

i have a question A-1, is it bad if my comics/volumes are exposed to led lights?
Thanks for the Pro tips! I just recently started double booking my bags. You mentioned specifically using the fully acid free boards (half backs and full backs) for older books (pre 1990). Do you not see the same yellowing or negative effect on newer books? Maybe because paper type changed?
Yes, there is less acid in the paper in modern books, the acid is what causes the yellowing

Really good video🤙
Great vid guys!! I've got multiple short comic book boxes, was wondering if I should get a couple of long boxes instead.🤔 which is better? Opinions.
I would stick with the short boxes..easier to move around,I am not buying long boxes any more
@@goodfella427 perfect!!
So the my lites are the best bag out of all if you are ok with paying the price

Deserves more views.
I believe the "acid free" non buffered boards also become acidic on their own due to the materials used in cardboard itself becoming acidic.
Did you put the comics in a pp bag and then put the pp bag into a Mylar bag? Why not right into the Mylar?
Been putting mine straight into 4 mil mylar (no boarding either) and loosely packing them in boxes since the 80's. They still look great.
Thanks mates
Dam I’m taking all the tape off my tm morning just in case
Question, should you use those little moisture bags, in the box?
Its either Mylites or nothing

Hi just subbed
👍👍👍
And people go crazy over Mylar. Polypropelinebags are 100% acid free. Why tf should i buy Mylars?
