- The New Orleans Saints have an enthralling QB2 battle ongoing between Jake Haener and Spencer Rattler, and it will only get better come training camp. Which QB earns the backup role behind Derek Carr will be determined by Rattler's ability to continue improving as he did through Saints OTAs and Minicamps or Haener's ability to continue his good decision-making, taking care of the ball and consistency come camp and the preseason.
Cedrick Wilson Jr. looks looks like an absolute lock along with Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed and A.T. Perry while the Saints defensive line could already be taking shape with locks like Carl Granderson, Cameron Jordan and Chase Young. But competition for the remaining EDGE spots and DT spots behind Bryan Bresee, Khalen Saunders and Nathan Shepherd can shake things up while Tanoh Kpassagnon recovers from his achilles injury.

I'd be really surprised if it was Rattler ahead due to the simple fact that Haener has been with the team for a season already and has gotten up to speed with NFL player game speed. Thanks for keeping an eye on the pulse of the Saints!
The real test will be preseason. You can't really gleam too much from practice. A preseason game though? You can gleam alot. I'm sure Carr will only play one drive. Then it will be Haener running with the 1s. I expec Rattler to get a shot with the 1s the following week unless he stinks with the 2s in the first game.
New OC new system. So Haener doesn't really have any seniority it's only his 2nd season. Saints have a lot of new weapons. I like Jake Haener and I think he should get the start over Rattler in Preseason. Let the best man win. I love our QB situation though.
@@raheim21 The seniority comes in with being a first year rookie and not being familiar with the daily grind and preparation. Also, Jake has more time on task with receivers and therefore better chemistry in his second year, Thirdly, Haener spent all offseason working in the new offense with Jon Gruden.

I saw a tweet that simply said (describe Rattler in 3 words or less) 90% of the comments say he should be QB1 right now... losing faith in this fanbase real fast!

And now they are calling for a rookie who was benched twice in college to start over Derek Carr. Lastly, I have read all the comments on X as well as other Social Media outlets and it is clear a certain contingency don't want Carr because he is white and pushing for Rattler because he is (half black) over Carr. So my comments are based on paying attention to actual comments made by many of these RACIST Cultists. So to answer your question: Why bring up racism? You can explain it all day and as a lifelong Saints/NFL fan; the drafting of Rattler makes ZERO sense. IF Carr is as good as we are told, Haener was a FOURTH rd pick and Taysom Hill can play QB, why in the hell would you draft a QB when there are so many holes on this roster?
Because none of those guys have proven to be your long term franchise QB. If you can get a 2-3 round talent in Rattler in the 5th round, you take him. He might just end up being your Jalen Hurts or Brock Purdy. Our 5th round picks haven't really panned out historically anyway. So, I don't see it as a waste. Carr is getting old too, so we should start thinking about succession now. At best, we keep him 4-5 more years. By then, Rattler or Haener will be ready. Both guys have potential to be starters. Or even better, one of those guys clearly starts outshining Carr in 2 years and we offload Carr in favor of the cheaper QB.

@@captaindeluxe7328 The fact that they drafted Rattler and Haener when they have Carr disproves your opinion. If they weren't thinking for the future, they wouldn't have gotten those guys. It's pretty clear they think both of them have potential to be starters. Also it's not like we're using high draft picks.

@@LilRedRasta They gave two 4ths and a 7th round pick for Jake. They had 4 5ths this year so Rattler's pick was basically a throw away pick. They didn't trade anything for Rattler. Last season they traded up in the 4th to select Jake. They gave up a 2023 4th round pick, a 2023 7th round pick and a 2024 4th round pick to select Haener so I am tired of hearing they are not happy with Jake because they drafted Rattler which the Rattler pick was a basic throw away 5th round pick since they had 4 of them. If they were so enamored with Rattler they could have traded up to get him like they did with Jake.
I haven't given up on Jake yet! He's had a rough start. 💪
What do you mean. He has had a great start. He was the only QB not to throw an INT in OTA’s. He has done great! Rattler threw several and Carr threw one too. Haener is the future

What do you base your. Assessment on??? Haener won against tough competition in college and his processing speed and accuracy is 100% better than Rattler so your opinion is based on nothing. Rattler RAS was 2.5 with a 4.95 49 time. Rattler is not very athletic, smart or accurate. Jake 40 time 4.8.
