I was actually curious if you hearing your own voice during your transition would be effected, but that's cool that you can hear it clearer now that your voice is changing. A Deaf friend of mine decided to try hearing aids for the first time, and she can hear high pitch things. When she first wore them with our group of friends at dinner, she kept hearing everyone's laughter and it was so cute to watch her experience. She'd get startled and then laugh and she was so thrilled to hear the way we all laughed.
My uncle was one of the major leading people who helped create the cochlear implant. I haven't yet had the pleasure of meeting someone who is using the invention. I am so glad that it has helped you. I'm sorry it isn't perfect and you can't hear everything but I am glad that it has helped you co-exist in this world a little better.
OMG. My whole life I have never met another Asian person who is HoH/Deaf. I live in the USA and am considering getting a cochlear implant (I'm 25 years old) and am in the process of doing all the tests to get evaluated for it. I am also not straight (but, am straight-passing). I am so happy I stumbled across your channel. AND SO HAPPY TO SEE DEAF/HOH REPRESENTATION!! I also did not learn ASL growing up and am just now wanting to learn ASL (still dealing with guilt for not learning Chinese instead). Thank you for being you and sharing your journey. Followed you on insta 😭😭😭
I've lost a lot of hearing and may need a cochlear implant. Thanks for teaching me about them. I guess I'll try to stay away from anyone that wants to throw paper clips at me! LOL
ok so you won’t probably read this but i have just found out your channel and i couldn’t help but smile. you are so amazing and ndkskakw i can’t even understand why i am loving your content this much. keep doing what you are doing with love and passion! xx
wow this is nuts! you explain so well that i have to use your words to explain during these times. thank you!! all these days i wasnt sure what happens during the op, reasons etc so thank you for this. life-changing :)
I’m so happy for you, I have my cochlear implants like my whole life cuz I was born completely deaf, I understand that before getting them music is not the same. But I love music, idk I never heard like a person with normaln hearing so it’sna difference for me. I hear everything good I don’t have problem with comparibg if it is a baby crying or whatever I know how it sounds and it’s like mechanical for me. This video teaches me a lot, keep practising!
This was really interesting! I've heard of cochlear implants before but had no idea how they worked, school kids suck but having magnets in your head is pretty fucking badass. Just one question - how much can you feel the magnets? I'm just imagining it being a bit uncomfortable having your skin pinched in between when you've got the outside attached? Or are they weak enough not to?
I actually don't feel the magnets at all unless I touch them through my skin on my head. It doesn't pinch me, but I know it does bother other people so they switch to a less powerful magnet.
I became deaf 9 years ago due to mumps on my right ear, that mumps caused my very high fever. I was already deaf on my left ear when I was born. Now I feel unworthy that I can't have friends.. I wish I could hear again :(
Hi Chella! I know you'll probably never see this but I recently discovered your channel and I adore this video. I am hearing but I am currently attending university to become a speech pathologist or audiologist (haven't decided yet)! I have been learning ASL for about 5 years now and I find I have learned so much by personally interacting with the Deaf community, about the culture and beauty of ASL and how wide people's individual perspectives can be on the cochlear implant. I know you're a busy dude, but if you ever wanted to talk about your experiences with speech therapy AND asl post-surgery, I'd love to hear about it! Maybe for a future video? It really helps people like me learn more about how to do the best job possible and overall just be a better human :)
I was born deaf but I only have one cochlear implant on one side. I'm scared to do the other side but I have to do it. It's scary to find out that music sounds different before because to me it sounds normal and not mechanical. And I hope I can finally hear on two sides
I had cochlear implant done 17 years ago on my right ear and it's the best thing ever! Able to hear a lots more and speak very well now. I wonder if you can be able to hear clock ticking? Cos I don't have that in my own place, otherwise that would be totally destroyed! 😀
It's amazing. Before the video I got an ad of a woman saying her son got 2 implants and then chellas quite a lot older video and then after the video I got the next ad of chella fully grown.. wow....that's a confrontation to go with. I love it. I'm gonna start my way soon too. Love youuu 😋😋
I would love to see more videos about your experience living with a cochlear implant. I don't know anyone who is old enough to discuss what it's like. The only person I know with one is three.
This is so interesting! Can you hear when you use headphones or is it only for like outside sounds? Also as far as going through metal detectors or having MRIs how does that work???
i know i'm not the youtuber, but i have implants too. You can put headphones on but not earbuds ! And we can't go through metal detectors or have MRIs. Well we can, but it would really mess up the magnets in our heads, which means we'd have to get surgery again. You can also get hurt. As you can imagine, I get really anxious when it comes to metal detectors.
Oh my god. I really thought I was the only trans* person who has a Coclear! Mines not as bad, as I am deaf in one ear and hard of in the other. I have the abutment with that small little box snapped into it. I never knew I was that bad of hearing until I got it.
I know this is an old video but i have a question that may be dumb, when going in to get a scan at the hospital if you ever had to, u know how u can’t get a scan with any metal on you does that mean you couldn’t get a scan since there’s magnets in ur head? sorry i may be just being dumb
Not a dumb question, no it won't be able to, however there are several ways to hear music, either by headphone awkwardly placed over the processor as that where the mics are, or by T loop (google telecoil loop / hearing loop), or by Bluetooth feature which my new processor now have.

Oh my ! That locker story is so relatable.. I've had that a couple times .. I'm still so anxious when it comes to airport security though.

Thanks
I live in the Philippines and I'm still a student graduating this May.
You are NOT unworthy, you're just deaf! Sure, being deaf makes you different but its also a blessing because you see the world differently.
I’ve just found this channel! I relate on so many levels, love you already!

Kinda dumb question but... is he able to listen to music with like earphones on?
Not a dumb question, no it won't be able to, however there are several ways to hear music, either by headphone awkwardly placed over the processor as that where the mics are, or by T loop (google telecoil loop / hearing loop), or by Bluetooth feature which my new processor now have.
