I worked on the South Fork as a tilesetter for over twenty years and never became aware of this part of the rich history of Sag Harbor! I did a bit of recording their as well in the early 2000's. Preserving the African American neighborhoods is preserving American history for ALL of us.
Wealth and organization can push back against gentrification, but blacks don't have a lot of wealth or organization to preserve what they've built there. I just don't want to see blacks lose what they've accomplished because they didn't try to fight back. Great video. Thank you.
