Thank you for posting this footage, Brandon! I had just moved to New Orleans with my mum-I'm a singer and musician and she's a retired art historian. This was our first hurricane as we come from the Arizona desert. Unfortunately, my mum fell and broke her hip the night b4 Ida hit and although she was safe in hospital, I had to witness Ida all alone with my kitties! I live in Kenner, proper. I also shot my own footage and photos of Ida through my front window! SO SCARY! But folks just don't get what I went through and what I saw...your footage perfectly captures what was happening outside my neighborhood! WHEW! Much appreciated because now my folks back in AZ can UNDERSTAND the magnitude! ^..^
My family is in Houma. No electricity,gas,water, healthcare, a living hell! Please please pray for the Louisiana! Two years in a row damage the entire coast of Louisiana.

The roar, the intensity of the rain and the speeds of those winds just incredible and Houma got the slightly weaker NW Quadrant and Ida was 130 mph when it reached this area not 150 mph and still its jaw dropping.

The eye was 20 miles from my house. It's the worst hurricane I've ever experienced and I've lived through Andrew, Katrina and Gustav. Ida had me drinking tequila and pacing my house. Thank God for the help. Our state needs it!
@@onlyonecaca yeap. I'm with you on that one. I've never evacuated. From Andrew to this one here in Lafourche Parish. This was the worst one for me. Not evaluating allowed me to save my house and pets. We fought the entire time to save our house. Without a doubt. If we would have evaluated. I would definitely be homeless right now. While other evaluated. But, we're still trying to help others recover from it. One day at a time. This is home

I live through a lot of hurricanes back home on St, Croix U,S,V,I. We have to build concrete houses, to withstand hurricanes. Praying for those who have lost their homes lives and businesses.
I was born and raised there in Houma I moved away a few months before Katrina and it breaks my heart to see everything being destroyed it's so sad thank you for being brave and shooting this footage where I live now we have tornadoes and those I'm my opinion is worse than hurricanes because they start warning you about 3 months ahead of time tornadoes just pop up at any given time and anywhere you get no warning I have been blessed because I have had them in the pasture right across the street from my house and they just traveled down instead of coming towards my house so I know God has my home and my family protected
Look up "New England's Killer Hurricane of 1938." The wind was so strong, geologists picked it up on the Richter Scale, and thought that an earthquake had hit. The worst part was, ONE MAN knew where it was going, but nobody believed him.

@@dublinjazz1 true but usually Red Cross And Places Like That provide shelter food and clothing if a disaster happens and you are forced out of your home or if it gets destroyed I had a neighbor back in January of this year whose house burned down but us neighbors help them out and they lived in a neighbor's camper for a few days until they could get an apartment I don't know how they're doing now but I just hope they're doing better but yes I understand what your comment is saying but usually places provide shelter temporarily
I have evacuated in Fl and the traffic backed up for miles. Only hotel far away as Atlanta. The expense. It is hard. If you have not been through this then don't make derogatory comments.
Omg.. the extremely high wind is frightening. Birds and palm trees just chilling, not a care in the world. My thoughts are with the people there as well as the recovery

Sadly, many creatures didn't make it. We have no way of knowing how many animals (wildlife, strays/pets, livestock, etc) didn't make it through these storms/natural disasters, all around the world ... how many babies, born/hatched in Spring, died before reaching adulthood. All loss of life is sad! 😢
The birds and animals seem to fare better, I saw footage on Sunday from another chaser with a herd of cows trotting across the road to eat grass and at Green Meadow a horse calmly eating while buildings were being torn apart, it was surreal. Thank you for filming, it was sad seeing the devastation.
Watching this video is the closest l will ever be to a hurricane of this strength. Some people stay and hope they get lucky and survive. I evacuated and created my own luck and survived.
Palm trees are the heaviest at the rootball and the base so even if not rooted in the ground they tend to stay standing too lol just a little fun fact from Florida 😘🤣
Thank god most were evacuated and most systems worked as intended. It was shocking when I woke up late that morning and saw that ida was STILL battering LA at Cat 4... Much love from florida to the victims of Ida, stay strong and build back even stronger.
The strength of the American people is amazing, just this year alone this beautiful country has not only had to deal with covid, it's had forest fires,droughts, earthquakes,tornadoes, and now hurricanes, you always manage to rebuild and continue, God bless you all, love from the UK
This wasnt too bad. Ive seen a lot worse. Keep in mind they will videotape the most damaged buildings. Did you see the Grand Isle video? On my houses the foundations are all that remains.

Reminds me of 08/23/92 in Miami during Hurricane Andrew…except the winds in Andrew were actually about 190mph and not what was initially reported due to Andrew “taking out” the National Hurricane Center. it was my first “real” hurricane and i went from Fort Lauderdale to Miami to be with some sick relatives who were unable to evacuate. I was outside most if the night and the noise was like a freight train in the sky with lots of green lightening. It was very surreal. Some neighborhoods in South Miami had every single home, tree, bush and street sign destroyed. Thank God we get advance warnings of these natural events nowadays.
my grandma lives in Houma and they still arent letting us in to see the damage all we know is a neighbors tree fell on one of the bedrooms , this storm its not the wind and surge damage overall (compared to Katrina) its the power and water that are becoming the problem too even that level , even in places with minor damage the power is still out. i got lucky 2 days and power is back

@@thomasjones36 Yeap. We're just taking it a day at a time. This was the worst I've ever been through. But, we're alive. Our pets are one of the many reasons we didn't evaluate. They're safe. I've never evacuated for any hurricane. Everyone was talking about Katrina being the worse. Katrina was like a breeze compared to Ida. Katrina was more deadly because of the old levee system. That pretty much what made it seem the worse. Everyone was trapped in New Orleans from the flood waters. Which was recently updated before Ida hit us. Katrina was a category 3 when it made landfall. Ida was a category 4 when it hit us along the coast. But, it definitely felt a whole lot stronger. I got a direct hit from this one. We had nearly 200mph winds recorded in my neighborhood. Just got to have faith. Be thankful for what we all still have. The recovery is a very slow progress. We'll come back stronger. Y'all hang in there as well. With y'all tornado disaster and hurricane Ida nearly taking us off the map down here. Y'all will make it as well. We've been helping each other as much as possible. All anyone can do is try. Wow, this is amazing footage, but I have a question about the creation process. How were you able to capture such great audio and video? I ask because it sounds like the microphone was in the elements, I can hear the rain splattering and the wind ripping, but theres no rain drops on the camera lens. Are you recording in a vehicle with a microphone mounted outside in the storm? That's my guess. But either way, this is an amazing video and thank you for capturing it for us.
I know of two separate homes that people were in and the roofs blew off they were just sitting on the side of the bed looks straight up and saw the sky and rain on their face🙏😔

i grew up going to see family in Houma as much as possible, we were able to go back less than 2 weeks after Katrina , it might be even longer until im allowed back to see it now . is going to be something i bet

As terrible as this is for all affected, there's something relaxing about seeing mother nature tear up all the order and strictness in the streets. Straight lines being bent or broken, things being torn apart.
I've not personally seen sudh ferocious winds because I always slept through the storms. But I remember well the devastation afterwards. This storm is horrendous. I hope no one is killed.
Life-long Louisiana man...after seeing it so many times, you know what you're about to face and what you're going to deal with in the end of it. And if you plan on riding it out....when it starts, you don't have time for regrets.

Why do people "decide" to stay instead of evacuate and then expect others to risk their life to come and get them? If it was a club or concert 1,000 miles away people would find a way to get out of town for it but I still hope everyone gets the help they need.

Living there my whole life ... people are proud they don't wanna say the reality.. some of them didn't want the trouble. Some could've gotten away and would've been flat broke in a day. Prayers for us not judgement.
Why do people build such flimsy stuff in these areas? Those crappy signs made from sheet metal should be outlawed in those areas. and rebuild with more rounded structures that the wind can't grab onto. Just saying I know poor folks are stuck but those that can like commercial properties and power plants etc. should build with these storms in mind.

Sustained winds were easily over 100 mph as well.

Umm it is very easy to evacuate besides they give u at least a 2 days to pack up

When I evacuated I had never seen so many dead birds. The interstate was covered. It was scary to see
I always leave town whenever a bad storm is coming. I never stick around to see how bad it's going to be.

I'm always amazed that the palm trees can withstand that wind given that they have very small, shallow root balls.
Because they are mostly stright and no big canopy,less wind resistance.

Palm trees evolved specifically to survive monsoons/typhoons/hurricanes.

I got about 50 palms. At tree that has all you need to survive.
Thank god most were evacuated and most systems worked as intended. It was shocking when I woke up late that morning and saw that ida was STILL battering LA at Cat 4... Much love from florida to the victims of Ida, stay strong and build back even stronger.

This wasnt too bad. Ive seen a lot worse. Keep in mind they will videotape the most damaged buildings. Did you see the Grand Isle video? On my houses the foundations are all that remains.

Reminds me of 08/23/92 in Miami during Hurricane Andrew…except the winds in Andrew were actually about 190mph and not what was initially reported due to Andrew “taking out” the National Hurricane Center. it was my first “real” hurricane and i went from Fort Lauderdale to Miami to be with some sick relatives who were unable to evacuate. I was outside most if the night and the noise was like a freight train in the sky with lots of green lightening. It was very surreal. Some neighborhoods in South Miami had every single home, tree, bush and street sign destroyed. Thank God we get advance warnings of these natural events nowadays.
There was apparently a 172 mph windgust from IDA
my grandma lives in Houma and they still arent letting us in to see the damage all we know is a neighbors tree fell on one of the bedrooms , this storm its not the wind and surge damage overall (compared to Katrina) its the power and water that are becoming the problem too even that level , even in places with minor damage the power is still out. i got lucky 2 days and power is back

@@thomasjones36 Yeap. We're just taking it a day at a time. This was the worst I've ever been through. But, we're alive. Our pets are one of the many reasons we didn't evaluate. They're safe. I've never evacuated for any hurricane. Everyone was talking about Katrina being the worse. Katrina was like a breeze compared to Ida. Katrina was more deadly because of the old levee system. That pretty much what made it seem the worse. Everyone was trapped in New Orleans from the flood waters. Which was recently updated before Ida hit us. Katrina was a category 3 when it made landfall. Ida was a category 4 when it hit us along the coast. But, it definitely felt a whole lot stronger. I got a direct hit from this one. We had nearly 200mph winds recorded in my neighborhood. Just got to have faith. Be thankful for what we all still have. The recovery is a very slow progress. We'll come back stronger. Y'all hang in there as well. With y'all tornado disaster and hurricane Ida nearly taking us off the map down here. Y'all will make it as well. We've been helping each other as much as possible. All anyone can do is try. Stay safe out there. We're Cajun. Much love and respect to y'all in Ohio

Wow, this is amazing footage, but I have a question about the creation process. How were you able to capture such great audio and video? I ask because it sounds like the microphone was in the elements, I can hear the rain splattering and the wind ripping, but theres no rain drops on the camera lens. Are you recording in a vehicle with a microphone mounted outside in the storm? That's my guess.
But either way, this is an amazing video and thank you for capturing it for us.

I know of two separate homes that people were in and the roofs blew off they were just sitting on the side of the bed looks straight up and saw the sky and rain on their face🙏😔

i grew up going to see family in Houma as much as possible, we were able to go back less than 2 weeks after Katrina , it might be even longer until im allowed back to see it now . is going to be something i bet

I've not personally seen sudh ferocious winds because I always slept through the storms. But I remember well the devastation afterwards. This storm is horrendous. I hope no one is killed.

Why do people "decide" to stay instead of evacuate and then expect others to risk their life to come and get them? If it was a club or concert 1,000 miles away people would find a way to get out of town for it but I still hope everyone gets the help they need.

Why do people build such flimsy stuff in these areas? Those crappy signs made from sheet metal should be outlawed in those areas. and rebuild with more rounded structures that the wind can't grab onto. Just saying I know poor folks are stuck but those that can like commercial properties and power plants etc. should build with these storms in mind.
