Flying Away | Fun Home the Musical | Gracie Bryant, Allie Joseph, Sofia Swade

#NewMusicFriday: When theatres have gone dark this year, these three stars have certainly kept shining in every possible way. I’m most grateful that I get to know them and to work with them. It is sheer brilliance every time they perform. They’ve done a few of our videos and online concerts, but this is the first that this, as I call them, North Carolina Trio perform together. This is not an easy song to work with, particularly when they’re all filming separately, and the best person to do it is someone who has played the role before. Allie played the role of Small Alison in Fun Home at the Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte and she invited two of her very talented friends, Gracie and Sofia, to do this with her. This is what she said:
‘This song is such a masterpiece in my mind! I love how it takes the music from multiple other songs throughout the show, and combines them to create the perfect ending. The show is about Alison finding herself by reflecting on her past, and this song specifically shows her as she steps into her future.
This will always be my favorite number in the show, and I loved performing it every night with my two older Alison’s at Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte in 2019. Getting to put this version together with two of the most talented girls I know was almost as awesome as performing it live back then. Huge thanks to Hayden, Gracie and Sofia! 💕’
