i work at a shoe store. this is more common than companies like to admit. this summer we received four cases of shoes, each pair just covered in mold. if you wear them you can get infections and all that.

@@JamesMeyers for real! this is bigger than just a stock issue, i worry that lost and found pairs that even appear to not have mold on them could because it’s microbial. it doesn’t matter that the shoes were in their own shoe boxes or whatever, once it’s in the same air space as other fabrics it will spread.
Dont mean to go off about the mold, it’s just really crazy that this could happen to NIKE, it’s a like a trillion dollar company. Where’s the QC?

Cleaning the mold off isn’t gonna do anything. Just by having mold on this sneaker it’s hazardous people would just be taking the mold off the surface of the upper and not the full infections.

This happens in the industry I am in, stuff being shipped from China. Black, white, green mold on the cases and product. At least you do not have water damage. I am not sure if its the ocean, or rain from being stored in containers. The shipping containers get condensation really bad.

I thought that’s what that green sticker in the shoe boxes was supposed to be for… to help mold. Shoes used to have the silica packs in them back in the days to help with moisture but they stopped

I'm sorry this happened, is it possible to wipe with a disinfectant wipe? My pair doesn't have mold but now I'm afraid if I keep them in the box for too long or something they might get mold. All the shoes are made from the same material so who is to say which pairs will get mold and which won't...
I’m gonna try and clean them up and use the proper stuff so it doesn’t come back

It always appears on the black cracked leather so the mold was probably present before the shoes were even put together
They used recycled materials and charged full price for used materials. Typical corporate logic

Did the sneaker smell moldy? Odd question but it seems more of a chemical reaction than damp storage attributed to typical shoe mold. I got a similar issue with some AF1 valentines that have a rust like stain coming through the white leather and Nike are making it a nightmare to return them.
I didn’t really wanna sniff mold, but honestly it wasn’t very smelly ….like a smell didn’t stand out to me
Got my pair delivered yesterday. Box was damaged in one corner. shoes were good and no mold. Damaged box reminded me how we stacked the shoes on the shelves in the back room at Champs back in ‘91 😂

i would try to dehydrate the shoe for a while. Itll whipe off but itll also grow back if left with too much moisture

My ROTY 1’s had ink stains on the suede. Jordan QC is rough sometimes.

Got no issues with molds. May be a cleaning and some silica gel can fix it. The release tho, thats the big issue. Well, i didnt try to camp out for those. And since I couldnt get one, I ordered some 2015 reps and Im good. Just want to wear and enjoy, but resellers all nailed it lol.

After you vaccum wash it off with a wet rag water or water/dawn soap.

So vinegar will kill most of that mold. Just make sure it won’t harm the dye. So wipe it down with a little bit. If it does not (harm the dye) you may need to soak it in vinegar then let air dry.

Happy Thanksgiving. Sorry you ended up with the Mold 1’s but honestly bro I would use some Lysol wipes or something not too strong kills mold and call it a day. It’s unfortunate that anyone should have to do this but they can’t go back to Nike in my opinion.

I’m a little confused, is the ‘mold’ you’re talking about the old cracked/scuffed looking top around the ankle? I thought it was purposely made to look like that? Some of the parts of leather on mine look tattered/worn… so I assumed it was part of the whole aesthetic?
@@AmyChaos Specifically, I'm talking about the black part of the ankle collar. Yes the distressed/cracked material is factory, but there is an apparent issue with molding in that area. I'm not sure why or if it's a material or storing issue.

Na , mold is a nasty naturally forming substance that grows when moisture gets to materials and they’re not treated properly.

Hydrogen peroxide kills mold. Hydrogen peroxide is the main ingredient in lysol. Lysol might be worth a shot or just straight Hydrogen peroxide. I use Hydrogen peroxide to remove stains on clothes and it works like a charm.
