*Love this **MyBest.Tools** have the original dremel oscillating tool but it's corded which is fine in many instances but this is so versatile. Must have for any tool monger like me.*
So I was researching videos to find out the mini uses of a multi tool and that’s how I came across yours. And since I have 40 years of experience with installing and ripping up carpet I had to comment on here. I have to say I was impressed how well the multi tool blade cut through the carpet but I would never use this method. I don’t mean to knock you but I would just like to save you and the many people that commented on your video a little time. Invest in a real carpet knife. It takes heavy duty razor blades and should be used with caution. But with a new blade you can cut through any carpet with ease. And it’s best to pull the carpet up and cut it from the underside. When I am ripping up the carpet I will use pliers to pull it up from the tack strip and then fold the carpet over and run my knife right down it. Obviously some carpet are harder to cut depending on the backing and the thickness. Berber carpet or anything similar with loops is always harder to cut. Once you cut the backing it sometimes doesn’t cut all the loops. Changing the blade often will help things go smoothly. I usually cut them in 3 foot wide strips and tape them up with duct tape or something similar making them easier to remove and stack in a van or on a trailer. For the Staples are use a long handled ice chopper/scraper. Grip it firmly and slide it along the floor as if you were shoveling snow. It will remove the staples pretty easy and you don’t have to get down on your hands and knees. The harder the wood floor the harder it is to remove the staples. So if there’s old oak floors underneath it will be a little tougher to do as opposed to particleboard or regular plywood. Sometimes you need to position yourself in the opposite direction to get some of the staples that didn’t come out in the first sweep. Nothing is perfect at taking the staples out but trust me this is a lot faster. There will be some staples that came partially out and you might have to grab them with pliers but that will be minimal. As far as the tack strip around the perimeter, the pry bar is the best way to go. It’s faster and it pulls the nails out of the floor. ( if someone was planning to refinish their floors, they would need to be sanded. So cutting off the tops of nails and staples leaving the other part in the floor would make it very difficult for sanding.) As you showed in the video, taking one strip off the floor takes a while when cutting the nails. And saving them to reuse is also adding time to the future job. The tack strips come pre-nailed and can be installed in about 5-10 seconds. if you were reusing an old one you would have to use new nails and I’m sure you can imagine how long that would take compared to already having nails in it. I really hope this helps everyone. And again, no disrespect to you or your video. I know you are trying to help as well.
Thank you for showing the cutting of all three items: carpet, staples and tack strip. Our floor is concrete so hopefully I can use your method and prevent damage to the concrete floor when removing the tack strip.
Thanks! And dang! I never even thought about using the multitool until I saw carpet-cutting blades, which I bought, which I didn't need!! ROFL! It never even occurred to me to use a regular blade. Didn't even try it. I'm a dork!
Just wanted to say thank you for this video. We're replacing our carpets next week and are trying to repaint the stairs underneath but the carpet kept getting fibers in the way. Was able to use my multitool to cut away a strip and expose more of the stair. Took me 20 minutes total to do the cut after watching your method. I was using the wrong type of blade, a wood/nail blade, for cutting the carpet.
I love that multi tool I purchased 2 or them from harbor freight about 2 years ago because I figured for the price it won’t last long but I have to say the second one is still in the box and like you I use it for everything
Well this makes life easier! I'd thought about it but wasn't so sure if it had downsides. I've got 2 rooms of carpet to remove and now I'm not dreading it so much. Thanks for the great video.
Gosh why didn't I see this video sooner!🤦🏽♀️ Taking rest breaks because my utility knife doesn't cut nearly this easy. I bought one of these on sale at Harbor Freight, now I know what to do with it!
The staples are the hardest part usually but with your method you can knock em down really quickly. Gotta say man. That's actually really smart. Thanks. I'm using that this weekend.
Thks so much! I knew there had to be an easier way to cut up carpet. My hands are too weak to use a razor. Now I will get the black and Decker Matrix drill system with the osaw attachment!
Thanks for the video! I have that HF tool and now will get those blades. I'm having my carpets replaced in the next few weeks so want to prep the room before the installers show up.
Brilliant way that i wish I knew before removing my carpet, unfortunately now stuck with massive rolls of old crusty carpet thats nearly impossible for one person to move outside without dragging and causing damage to walls, doors etc., I don't suppose you have an easy way to cut up large single pieces that have already been pulled off the floor and are now taking up heaps of room for everyone to to try and work around? Thanks in advance for any suggestions
Thank you so much. I’m removing carpet from a terrazzo floor & this will be terrific because I needed something to take the carpet strips up. I this tool from harbor freight?
I purchased a pricey Bosch tool and it did not work at all. I was doing everything correctly and a utility knife wasn't super easy but worked better than trying this method. Any comments?
I just got one of these and I’m attempting to cut the carpet with it. Scraper blade (I actually tried a different blade too). Is there a trick to it that I’m missing? Because it’s not cutting through. Like not at all.. Its a pretty plush 20+ year old carpet. Does that change anything? I would appreciate any input!
Oscillating Multi Tool is the common name and there are many manufacturers of these. Ryobi, Milwaukee, dewalt, dremel and many others. This one came from harbor freight and can be picked up pretty cheap with a coupon.
i tried that today with my multi tool and it wouldn't touch the carpet... i now realise i used the wrong attachment... lol i was trying with the blade not the scraper.
Fucking brilliant on cutting the carpet. Did you sharpen the scraper blade at all or do they have a generally sharp edge? Ive been sleeping on these oscillating tookls, outta all my power tools i own I am missing one of these bad boys.. Gona grab one soon
Giving advice with a harbor freight tool. Classy. Use a carpet blade and roberts carpet knife. When it came to tack strip removal it took you more time than me with a crowbar :| Quite a proud moment you had wasting electricity and oscillator blades.

Thanks for sharing the knowledge! The razor knife is a real pain against the Berber carpet. Going to give it a go.
Great video showing the oscillating tool in action. I just bought one and I’m in love with it!

Great video, saved me lots of time.
Thanks for the video! I have that HF tool and now will get those blades. I'm having my carpets replaced in the next few weeks so want to prep the room before the installers show up.
valuable tip! I dont know why I always expect to see hardwood flooring under carpet. Just subbed
Camaro Rick seems like you see hardwood underneath carpet in a lot of the remodeling shows on TV. I wasn't that lucky.

Thank you for the video. I'll give it a try.
Thank you, I'm ready to do this today. I have this tool .
You can clip a Stanley knife ( or similar) hooked blade into a multi tool and cut carpet really easily.
I have hardwood under the carpet I’m trying not to damage the wood. Would this work or will it mess up the wood?
Doesn't it cut the floor underneath?
wonderful video, watched the whole video
850 :) Wow, butter! that's amazing, cutting with sizers Is a nightmare .
Amazing! I still have my tack strip left behind. I'm going to get one ♥

I purchased a pricey Bosch tool and it did not work at all. I was doing everything correctly and a utility knife wasn't super easy but worked better than trying this method. Any comments?

Cool trick for the staples!
Pretty Cool video, thanks for posting this video
Awesome.
Awesome video Bro!

Could you use that tool to remove a popcorn ceiling?
How about base boards? Can you make a video how removed them the easy way.
Where can I get this tool.
You really do have a good channel. Keep up the good work. Hope you make it to 1k soon. Cheers.
Can the scraper attachment be used for carpet glue or is there a better one to use?

THANKS
Could have used that when we where tearing out our carpet
Lucky that its tack strips and not glue...
Very informative! Supported back. 😊
Carpet knife. Fast and silent!!! Not some annoying whining little tool that damages the subfloor and baseboards.
Ahh you have a really great channel
Where can I find this tool? Is there a specific manufacturer that makes it?

@@TheManCaveVideo Thank you, Man Cave! :-)
nice
i tried that today with my multi tool and it wouldn't touch the carpet... i now realise i used the wrong attachment... lol i was trying with the blade not the scraper.
Dremel and dewalt now make some pretty cool multi knife blades. I got one of each for Christmas but I have not tried them out yet.

the harbor freight tool works good and is cheap but their blades suck...buy good blades from a good home improvement store, more expensive but worth it
Much quicker with a Stanley knife for the carpet and razor scraper for the staples.
Good video. I am helping your community grow could also use your help.
Marksmisfitworld great video I’m excited by your videos may be you could look at mine too.
