- The owner of a local popular restaurant says he is losing his business after 13 years because of the coronavirus pandemic. Pam Seatle with how he is one of many owners struggling to make it in this city right now.
If I see one more quote "We're all in this together"...I'm gonna totally lose my s__t
Hang in there bud... there’s a light at the end of this tunnel. It’s probably a light year away from here, but it’s there 🥰
I’m sick of hearing “we’re all in this together” also. Such BS.
Yeah, the poor people are "all in this together"
How about, We all go together. Happy? Because every elder are the first to go from this plague.
Dont move this year 2020 hybernate go somewhere a farm or beach just wakeup in 2021.
Didn't lose it "to the pandemic", he lost it to the politicians!
Exfuckenactly!!
The owner has been paying taxes every year the government needs to help this man immediately!
I think they have bigger issues
Taxes are not a savings account that bail you out when you're in trouble. He has to start all over. The lessons learned will make him a better business man.
James Ball ok so if you are that restaurant owner what would you do?
Olivia ok if you were that restaurant owner what would you do?
David Perez ok if you were that restaurant owner what would you do?
No middle class, no democracy. Time is ticking.
Why no democracy?? If they are in business, same as going to work, except much less in your pocket. Do you not think that people with families, mtg. kids dont have this worry. Nothing to do with Democracy at all. Its a pandemic it doesnt pick the people to get it, it just chugs along, people get it. Again nothing to do with middle class, how about the poor, dont you think they have a worse time then you. Now on to the RICH People, I dont see much donating by them. If they are it certainly is hidden. Pick on them for a bit. NOT democracy.
50 million more Americans homeless and hungry due to Covid19.

We now find the vast majority of Covid cases were caught inside not outside as previously thought. The assumptions that were used as the basis of quarentine have all proved to be false. the quarentine is not helping anyone or anything just destroying lives. diarrhea kills 200 kids every day and over half a million a year. Outside looking in people always think small business make more money than we do. Let support each other.
I remember talking to a previous coworker when I was working in government agency she asked why I don't work at my parent's computer store. My parents make less than what I make. So two people combined salary was less than my salary. My parents don't have company pension and benefits. I am currently working I hospital but as a programmer so I have stable income and also don't need to work with patients. Based on what I saw with my parent's business going down each year that is why I work in public sector.

Yes your right. Without the working class there would be NO rich people or mega companies that make billions.

What is the "middle class" exactly? 🤔
Please define it.
It's by design
Absolutely right

Its not taxes that wiped out the middle class in north america its corporate attack on unions allowing them to keep wages stagnant while the profits go to management and investors.
surprising how self aware he is when he said he's not so smart investing it all in it
But who could have predicted the disaster that has suddenly occurred because of the coronavirus pandemic?
Never put all your eggs in one basket. Some people do it to get started in business, but you can separate your assets legally, and work out ways to build credit ratings, like having co-signers, silent partners, etc. I know one company that made a property tax deal with the city, then used the total tax money they would save over ten years, as an ASSET in their business plan.
Its go big or home. He went big...its a gamble, unfortunately

What’s the difference between people going to Walmart, Costco, etc and other stores and malls??? What a scam
The difference is they are stores selling essential goods and services. It's also about how the virus spreads. In restaurants everybody stays in stationary spots for 30-90 minutes, while often constantly talking and laughing. People emit approximately 10 particles a second while talking. Some particles can be in aerosol form and remain suspended in the air.
Case studies have shown instances where a single asymptomatic infected person went into a restaurant and everybody at the table also later became infected, and many people at tables nearby also became infected.
In supermarkets people are never near the same people for long, not much talking, people are wearing masks, often high ceiling commercial buildings with ceiling fans, it's lower risk.
This is about locally owned businesses, not multi-million dollar franchises.
Well, Walmart is probably one of the largest purchasers of China product. They satisfy North America’s addiction to cheep product and prices !
@Boondock Saint I've read that a person needs to be exposed to a certain threshold of viral particles before it'll overwhelm their initial immune defences and cause an infection. Briefly inhaling some aerosols emitted from a passing (infected) strangers breath or speach might not be enough trigger a infection. Sitting nearby that same person being constantly exposed to their aerosoled particles for an extended period of time is thought to be mainly how the virus spreads.
This is a scenario in restaurants, buses, subways, offices, care homes, etc.
Briefly passing an infected person in a grocery store at a 6 feet distance is low risk, unless they coughed or sneezed, then an aerosoled viral "cloud" will be formed, infectious up to 27 feet, until it dissipates, or so I read.
Really everyone just needs to wear proper masks so they don't emit these particles in the first place, needs to be mandatory.
Nick K Exactly
My heart goes out to these business owners.
These people have sacrificed and worked and had it all taken away smh
It shouldn’t. He’s white and a business owner so he’s a horrible person in my books. The government should have everything shut down for at least ten years. Don’t worry we can continue to wrack up debt.

How can you run a "popular restaurant" for 13 years and not have saved up enough money to last you two months?!?
🤷🏽♀️
SirGriefALot well from the looks of it he threw everything including the kitchen sink into expensive props and entertainment for his customers. Both restaurants looked very high end imo.
He said he didnt properly invest or manage his money
He said he did not sell alcohol so that would do it.
He admitted what he did was wrong. Everyone makes mistakes. Life is a learning process. He will know better next time. He really seems like a nice guy.
Rule of thumb never use your home as collateral for any business and keep it separate. Hate to see the guy lose it.
Taking the risk you can make it or it will break you.
And another good rule is NEVER co-sign a loan. (Especially for a "Friend.")
Most banks will never give you loan hundreds of thousands of dollars needed for a fancy restaurant without any collateral
He probably over-leveraged himself running 2 restaurants at the same time. $22 for a chicken sandwich and $24 for truffle mac and cheese dish.

How has he already lost his house? It hasn't been long enough to be evicted or foreclosed
Elton R he has accepted his fate he knows the house is lost before it gets to that foreclosure point.
My though as well. But with the amount of money hes losing its inevitable. Plus he admitted he shouldn't have had all his money invested.
People don’t care 💯 they more quicker to evict now more than ever
Elton, businesses typically are under multiple year’s leases, that’s money you’re obligated to pay. He may also have large loans for the buildout for his two locations. If he goes bankrupt the banks will seize his assets (house) to recover their loses. If his assets aren’t enough,, his future wages may also be garnished. This would be the case in the US... assuming it’s similar in Canada.
If he lost his income he knows he has lost his house because unlike a lot of you he can’t get a job and make his mortgage😔

Peter Trudeau entered into a contract with Vatican October 1969. The 13 Colonies in 1984. Shortly after both those events Vatican shipped out manufacturing to China. When I say "China" I speak about the Chinese National Party NOT the people per se. And look what Vatican agent Doug Ford did: He used Orders in Council to lock us down. In so doing Ford and the other criminals violated the whole of the Charter, ESPECIALLY s. 6 (work). Ford could ONLY override section 2 OR sections 7-15 but NOT both! For proper legislation there has to be a "Bill". It has to be read thrice and committied once. Orders in Council is behind closed doors dictatorship! At the debates we would find out the facts NOT the theories Ford is spewing! Because Doug Ford, Elizabeth Doddeswell and the other criminals forming the Legislative Council for Ontario are PERSONALLY liable for their fraud! Imagine 1,000,000 lawsuits for harm caused and a token $1,000 from each member for their crimes? Maybe the message would get out? REMEMBER the government does NOT work for us! You have never had a business or managed anyone obviously. Are you a 12 year old child.

Yes, but a business that was only one straw away from that kind of serious trouble was going to be particularly vulnerable to any number of disruptions in the normal business cycle. The government should have done something to make sure small businesses didn't get crushed by rent during lockdown. Could made a deal with leasers nationally where the government covers 10%-20% of the rent and renters another 10%-20%, then the leasers would have to take a loss for the remaining amount. That would have benefited the economy greatly when lockdown is over.
The thing is its the bankers and Lawyers that make sure they get paid and the government will always make sure the bankers never loose no matter what. The law will always side with the lenders

I'm sure the $20 burgers and $5 glasses of orange juice had nothing to do with it. $50 lunch for one without alcohol is a recipe for disaster in my opinion.
Lost another restaurant months ago, then his house and now that overpriced mediocre "Pub" and he expects us to believe it's the fault of Coronavirus? Hes clearly not great with finances and would likely be out of business anyways. The nachos there cost like $30 lol clearly run by someone desperate for money.
@@BOOSETO Have you eaten in the downtown restaurants in Toronto?
Well.. Cobb salad $20 + .. le Big Mac $20 + etc ... not exactly inexpensive
@@ELee-zv5ud Riverside isnt downtown. So what you're saying is irrelevant.
I grew up by this guys place and people like him came in and pushed out the little guys and gentrified the entire neighbourhood. I couldn't care less about him losing his overpriced joke of a Pub. I'm sure he will find another low income neighbourhood to put in some even more overpriced restaurants.
its a high end restaurant,it sells environment and atomosphere
Aren't people like him supposed to be getting check's in the mail to keep him on his feet?
The Angry General he prob snorting that nice white rock.
The Angry General
The government isn’t sending enough financial assistance for people like him to be able to manage his business. The vaccine for the virus is also not being made fast enough, which was more of a reason why his business wasn’t going to survive
So sorry for what you're going through.
❤ my heart goes out to him and his family.
Slap in the face that they have Subway in the background with an Open sign.
So much more will be lost, don't forget your faith."God"is not dead.all is not lost today.
What’s infuriating is, if the public health policy advisors/experts are wrong about the severity of COVID-19, and all the mandatory quarantine and business closures were unnecessary, it’s no skin off their backs. Meanwhile, there’s no do-over for small business owners who were forced out of business.
Thanks alot JT...
LOL the pandemic is literally eliminating the middle class gg
seems like it was all a part of the plan from the beginning
Who knew not having savings would be detrimental. It's like the low interest rates by our central banks was a bad policy.
Wasnt that part of the plan? Get rid of the middle. So everyone is either super poor or super rich
@Grey Muldoon everything trickles down to eachother
how funny!
This is so sad. It's heartbreaking really. That man lost his whole livelihood and it was not his fault at all. Hopefully things get better for him and for all restaurant owners who are going through similar strife.
Somebody hire this man to help in another restaurant. He looks like a decent, hard working person that will help your business succeed. It is heartbreaking when good workers lose their livelihood only because of economic circumstances, and no fault of their own.
He was leveraged to his nose, it was only time before he drowned in debt. He should actually have shut down his other location 2 years ago.
Beautiful restaurant......Good attitude! Sometimes things are out of our control......This is so much bigger than us. Thoughts and prayers are with you, with all!
So sorry that has happen to you all.
The government should give him money , so he can bounce back.
God's Love its difficult during this covid pandemic , im not really sure government money can help him , if the lockdown still in effect
Let's just hope this guy gets on his feet soon ..prayers
He did get money. I have a small business and I got money and I don’t have a big fancy restaurant. He didn’t spend his money right.
can he offer take out?
I went to Japanese restaurant last week, ordered online, when I went there at my pick up time, at least 20+ ppl in line already, waited 30min+ to get my order. Some restaurants are surviving.
fine dining is different though
Correct, he has to transition to that to survive.
different market
randomrazr no, it’s not. A local small business has very expensive fine artisan meals, and when we looked online to order to support them, they were closed and not offering take out. These businesses should be running if they risk running out of money.
PRAYING FOR YOU. AND YOUR FAMILY. SO SAD.
The man can't get a break. I hope he and his future business bounce back and be stronger than ever. God bless.
Sounds like he had cash issues prior
No it sounds like he was forced out by construction contracting. Trump gets his construction money from China x100Ms ...maybe we're getting hustled imperialistically
@@thereforeayam The US has taken money from China over and over the debt they owe to China hasn't ever been fully paid just like many other countries Jamaica, Africa, many countries in the middle east so it's not a suprise someone who has money got some of it from China
"Sounds like " Ryan did you listen to the whole story ? That is exactly what was in this piece. Why are you stating something that was already stated?
glen glen This restaurant did not borrow from China. Take off your tin foil hat.
ll Savage Butcher ll China is not even close to be a big foreign debt owner of Canada. It’s ranked behind UAE, Saudi, US and Japan
Hopefully this pandemic will teach us all to build a good solid rainy day fund when it's over.
Yep 3 to 6 months. Do that before you buy the big house do that before you buy the nice car
But I need the big house and the nice car to keep up with the joneses
I would say one year expenses
@@bathombre9739 $10,000 would be nice
@@JTDyer21 i would say $25, 000 minimum, cover all kinds of emergencies including a vehicle
I feel bad for this guy. Talk about bad timing. It's one thing to shrug off a restaurant closure but when you listen to this story and realize what it has cost him personally, it puts things into an entirely different perspective. He sounds like a go-getter so I wish him the best and hope he can eventually recover from this awful situation.
When you’ve been doing business for 13 years, but don’t have money saved to weather a few months without business, it just shows you’re bad at managing your money.
I’m sorry to hear, will these restaurants are getting protected.

I wouldn't!
@@rk6319 yup take care of yourself
Boy are you gullible or what. If you went to him and ask to give you a meal because you don't have money you think he would give it to you?
Covid 19 didn't end his business, the politicians did.
DEBT is what did it to him
@@sarahann530 no, i am going to disagree. he was apparently meeting his obligations before he was forced to shut down
@@mikelynn8977 So you put the survival of restaurants over the lives of people . Interesting ! .
@@sarahann530 I'll tell you what I find interesting. You thinking you have the moral high ground with your hypocrsy virtue signaling. you are not saving lives by shutting down, you are are only exchanging lives to those that will die or suffer life long effects because of the consequences of the shut down. You like many have no idea of the unseen consequences.
Sorry to hear that. 😢
I know the feeling - spouse, job loss, got sick, crime attack, foreclosure, insolvency, finally moved. It’ll take ten years to recover if nothing else happens.
