I think the point of her chronic illness is that she can't actually get better, physically. We're told she trains on the mat with Rhiannon and then Imogen, and I think with Xaden? It WAS very predictable but I thought it was a quick and fun read. My tolerance for cringe is extremely high, it's from years of reading terrible fanfiction since I was old enough to be on the internet. Anyway, I enjoyed your video!
To be honest, I went expecting to hate it and only came out meh. I could go all Krimson Rogue with just the world building of the college. But the world building is sloppy, Xaden was never an enemy because despite saying he was going to kill her, he never harmed her so I never got enemies to lovers vibes, and Violet either needed to be just weak due to lack of training or it didn't need to be a war college. And to address the last part. If she was just a weak person because she studied and never trained. Along with her height, the rest of her class is angry because she is failing and still getting special treatment. Bad rep is worse than no rep. EDS which Violet has isn't a willpower means I can do more type of illness. She should have broken over and over and over again. So remove EDS, she is simply unprepared and not tall enough to be a rider but still gets special treatment. Or she had EDS and its not a death college. The second one is more interesting and to prove it, I argue it would be better to see her struggling, then she bonds. Now that she is bonded she started to use magic to brace her body all the time. She is constantly tired, falls asleep in class, and so forth. Then during the final action piece, she has suffer because all the damage that has built up over time. She can't aim because her vision is blurry. She shifts in the saddle and she cries out in pain. So much more potential. In the end 3/5 if I ignore the anachronistic language. 2/5 if I consider language
You are not alone! This book was painful on a lot of levels. The 'betrayal' stuff especially! I understand why Violet would be upset, but her reaction is just so self-absorbed. Also I hated how everyone then fell over themselves to apologise and say how wrong they were, when they were 100% right not to tell her before then. I'm happy for everyone who had fun with this book, but I just couldn't get past the poor writing quality. Not so much the cringe, more the lack of substance, and how it never really paid off anything it tried to set up.
Thankyou Liv for your honest review. I have been looking for someone who has read this book who hasn't liked it so that is refreshing. Thank you. I haven't read this book btw and haven't because it has been so super hyped. Not sure if I would pick it up tbh.
Love this honest review Liv! I definitely felt the cringe inner dialogue and also how YA it felt! But I was sucked in and still fell in love with it 🥲🤣

That’s a good point! I’m glad you had fun reading it!!!
I loved your review even though I enjoyed the book. I love seeing negative reviews. Also, you look so good.
Aw thanks Tracey🥰 I appreciate you watching 🥰
This book may be absolutely atrocious, but at least the sex scene was so cringe it looped around to being funny.
😂

Yeah the "betrayal" annoyed me so much

Honestly it might be better that you don’t like this book 😂 it’s five books and my pockets are hurting from how obsessed I am
Now I don’t have to spend money on the special editions 😂
