Outside a couple of episodes and mostly only Fear no mort and I guess auto erotic assimilation the show doesn't go deep into characters. Rick is simply a drunk nihilistic scientist with a very basic backstory that is just about avenging his wife. And Morty is an insecure kid with his life being sorta taken over by rick and he doesn't want that but still kinda does idk how you call that and for the main characters that's it. This ain't no breaking ahh bad type deep character stuff. Rick and Morty are both flat characters that "normally" go on episodic adventures. Now stop the yap.

Take Sans here for an example and compare him to rick. Compare sans' nihilism and compare it to rick his nihilsm. Wouldn't you agree that sans his reason for nihilism and just the way sans is sans (lazy not caring but still tapping puns, Not really really being depressed and just dealing with it the most logical way he can) plus his most likely connection to deltarune togheter with the fight sans is definitly a complex/deep well written character. And sometimes in fancomics they connect him to gaster in the right way wich makes it even better. Think about that. And then compare sans' "arc and backstory" with rick his arc and backstory. Rick's is fairly simple. Why? Because of point 2 I said. The part where the red speech bubbles melt into Morty, like he's literally becoming influenced by everything around him. The animated parts with the black background, the movement is so fucking smooth. And the art style as a whole?! Holy shit, you're so talented! I think this may finally be the thing that gets me to go and watch Rick and Morty!
