As long as politicians have the mindset that a sustainable economy is one that is primarily an employment based one and that increasing the population is the way to create a good tax base, things are not going to get better especially with this status quo of shifting the tax burden more onto the the salaried and hourly workers. With more people not required in the workforce due to AI and automation, it is inevitable that a commerce based economy rather than an employment base one is in store. Commerce is what fuels an economy. But that will need the political will and support of the electorate to get rid of a tax system based on the employment model like we see with income and payroll taxes. Taxing commerce progressively plus a major revision to capital gains tax similar to what is was before the policies that stemmed from supply side economics took hold, will be required for a commerce based model, but the biggest obstacle to that is those that already get their manufactured losses and failures socialized by the tax payer - big corporations and the richest of the richest. They do not want to see the days of capitalism under democracy return; they prefer “democracy” under capitalism. Their great sense of entitlement is not going away any time soon of having the economy at the bottom continually bled to sustain growth at the top.

We don’t have a lack of housing. What we have is excess demand from mass immigration which has doubled the price of rent. Mass immigration also suppresses wages. We need an immigration moratorium and we need to send back at least 3 million excess immigrants too.
Deporting so many people at once creates too big a shock to our country and economy. Besides Our country would shrink if immigration was zero because emigration is a thing. If someone commits a crime fine deport them. And if they want to leave let them. But if no fault deportations are to be an option then No one not even native born Canadians should be exempt. All the way or not at all. Of course this assumes the immigrants are legal and not illegal but my point stands.

Its true - i worked hard last year, over and above by trying to be creative and maximizing output and productivity - only to have my year end bonus chewed up significantly by taxes. Its true - i worked hard last year, over and above by trying to be creative and maximizing output and productivity - only to have my year end bonus chewed up significantly by taxes. Its a punishment for working hard, and a reward for the politicians on wasteful spending sprees. We work so hard day in and day out only for them to so easily declare billions and hundreds of millions away in spending.

Cut the size of the government. As a working guy if we get a bonus it is nice but gets taxed slightly less than regular or holiday pay, a bonus like what Air Canada executives receive would be nice but I am sure they don’t get taxed the same
