Great video, D832 has thrashed up and down ELR for over 30 years, still looks as good. BR were wrong to scrap these Class 42 when they had so much life ahead of them.
Some nice views here, love the sound the engine makes when accelerating, takes you back many years when they were working out their days on BR. Nice video.🙂
Hopefully Drive a Warship in time -ive had two driver experiences cancelled because of mechanical issues....Ive driven Western Champion and loved it, a Hymek is the one i want most of all, great video!!!
A few years ago I was lucky to buy the power handle, reverser handle, and key from the now extinct 833 panther warship loco. I've always loved the warships.
There are only two Warships left in preservation so mutilating the roof of one of them to add a pointless claw would cause much uproar. Also it would be a huge waste of money.
No point. They never carried them in BR service and would serve as nothing but a dangerous nuisance that would make them more likely to foul bridges and tight clearances, and make it harder for people to work on the roof when they are undergoing overhaul. Not to mention if for any reason it needed an engine lift
I was a fireman at old oak at the time in 1963/64 I was working in the spare link snd could be sent anywhere when I booked on there was a driver there was a driver standing in the booking on office he looked at me and said are you alright for a double trip yes I say so we make our way out in to the shed and stopped at the top passenger turntable where there was a bright shiny D800 so we climbed on to the I found the hand brush and had a sweep round I did feel bit curious and excited as I had never been on these new diesel hydraulics very especially the D800s so we travel light engine to Paddington platform 1 I jumped down and couple up and within it is train time and we slowly start to move away next stop Plymouth having just watched this film with interest is there was no role in cab well let me tell you this at 90 mph the locomotive rocks and rolls the driver has plenty of things to hold onto like the controls ect but the man in the left-hand whether you call him the fireman or second man there is no armrest and the nearest I can describe it is like riding a raging there is nothing to hang on to when we eventually arrived the outside of my right-hand leg had quite a few bruises but as luck had it well we had come off the to go onto Lara shed because there was an engine change. So we booked on the next day went through the same performance sweeping down my driver has been away for quite a few minutes and I wondered where he had gone then I heard two voices in the engine room he eventually come back into the cab grab your traps son he said this is a failure so we walked back over to the running foreman window I stood there whilst a driver talk to the foreman we've got to take the pilot so we walked to wear the station pilot was stabled a lovely clean castle I jumped onto the checked the gauge and the opened the and had a rake around with the long pricker to see if I could latch onto any clinker N2 open the fire bed up everything seemed in so I then started my duties of building up a fire by the time our train I had a lovely bright fire we had a really good trip back picked up assisting loco at Newton abbot to get us over the Somerset flats next stop Paddington
Hello nablicman Only just found your channel. I'm really impressed with the quality of you camera work and sound. It's pretty damn difficult keeping a camera level and steady hanging out of a Mk1 window. Are you using a gimbal or steadicam of some kind to support the camera? Or is it just the image stabilisation built into the camera? What camera do you use? Also, are you using some kind of wind muffler? There is some wind noise, but you've managed to keep it to a minimum. I like your editing too - you keep individual takes down to a reasonable length and you 'cut-away' to details other than the loco. Very professional. I've been filming trains for 30 years or so and I can see the technical problems you've managed to overcome. Really nice work, well done! Andy.
Thanks for your comments much appreciated I also have bin filming for around the same time al lsorts of subject matter but railways are my passion. The camera is a Sony HXR NX5 with a rycoat muffler on the stereo microphone and theres no gimbal or image stableing its just me wedged in the window & a lot of experience in filming out of carage windows.😊
@@nablicman Thanks for sharing that info nablicman. Interesting to hear that you use a Rycote. I have one too and they are very effective. Very impressed that you are getting such steady picture, even on telephoto settings while handheld. Not an easy think to do. Nice work!

BR were wrong to scrap these Class 42 when they had so much life ahead of them.
All because they were simply hydraulics
Thanks for the wonderful cab-ride - I'm sure there would be thousands who would love to witness those 2nd-man moments for real !
Some nice views here, love the sound the engine makes when accelerating, takes you back many years when they were working out their days on BR.
Nice video.🙂
Is anyone else look up class 42 warship stuff because of Diesel 10 form thomas and firends.??? Cuz I am, I love Warships!!
I thought the warship was known as evil diesel with a hiyab arm on the roof?
@@nablicman oop XD
Nope, his name is Diesel 10.
Me
Yes
Wow, I love that Loco its amazing. Brilliant to see inside the cab. Great video 👍
Cheers Martin I did have the pleasure of driving it a few years back will have to dig the footage out.😊
Nice cab ride... : )
Thanks for sharing.
Regards, Clifford.
Lovely locomotive and the western class both nice in the crimson livery…..

A shame she didn't survive as she was a Class 43 with MAN engines. Different sound altogether.
Imagine the sound if they could use Notch 7 on the power handle ..😁👍😀
Excellent video.
I was surprised to see a wild deer on the side of the track. But in the video I saw myself in the background at Bury station
Ye I was very surprised by the deer I had heard rumours they were about but never seen one glad I managed to get it all be it a bit wobbly.
nablicman cool
21:10 oh there’s the horn I thought it was attached to like a string like a semi truck horn
I love the fluffy dice!
I wish someone would add a hydraulic claw to one of the warship locomotives
The hydraulic claw would have to be approved by whatever government the warship is under, but that would be super cool if it happened!!
There are only two Warships left in preservation so mutilating the roof of one of them to add a pointless claw would cause much uproar. Also it would be a huge waste of money.
Should we book the seats or not, ?? If Yes, which classes are present, their amenities.
awesome, thank you for sharing!
Irwell Vale is a nice little country halt for somewhere that's right next to a sewage works, isn't it.
Ye its a very peaceful place and not at all smelly funny enough. 😊
AndreiTupolev well it's gotta go somewhere.
Man I wish one of the b 42 warships have a mechanical claw on the roof just for decoration, not actually operated and used

Why is what appears to be satnav in the cab?
I wish I could volunteer at that railway as a guard
Their the person who waves the green flag and blows the whistle to signal that it’s all clear
It’s called a guard
diesel 10 is back:0
Yes. 10/10 for devious deeds and brutal strength. The blast from the past who hates steam engines.

The UK has better looking locomotives
10:39 there’s the green flag
All clear
