This is one of those songs that people have either never heard or had forgotten about. I love it. It has always been one of my favs by the band. Thanks for watching / listening.
I had this album in the early 80s. Forgot about it for 40 years until a trip to Spain where I happened upon it again. Spent the trip listening to The Rowe during morning runs. Felt totally fresh and contemporary to me. It’s a perfect song. How another band, motion picture, or television series hasn’t covered it I don’t know.
I swear this song has so much emotion in this, stirs my soul every time I hear it. And my God, that note Tom Bailey holds and belts out at 3:05 to 3:20 - Down that Roooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowe!
I love all the lyrics in this song...I think it is totally awesome....when I play it for people..and do not tell them who it is until the end...they are amazed......
I always loved The Rowe one of the best Songs on Set as its quite haunting which I like. Set was the name of the UK Release. In The Name of Love which the song appeared also on in the US was a compilation of Set and A Product Of.
SET has got to one of the most under rated NEW WAVE albums of the early 1980's....there are 6 or 7 outstanding songs on this album.......Fools Gold, Bouncing, Good Gosh, Living in Europe and ANOTHER FANTASY and this song are all great
Thank you...I get lucky sometimes...I absolutely love this song and most people have no idea it even exists...nice job on playing it in a place that compliments it even more...I would love to hear what it sounds like ther at as high a volume as possible without distortion....
"The Rowe" Come on, come on down the rowe You'll believe exactly what your told And you'll lay down, lay down in shade of trees Yes, it'll happen to you just like it happened to me Well I think using my mind I look around for love but what do I find I try to relax it's time for a rest I just can't seem to get out of this mess Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh Down the rowe In a birds' nest, I find an egg Well I break it up and rub it all over my head And I wonder should I do this or should I do that And does it matter if this whole story is a matter of fact Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh Down the rowe And as a consequence of this Well I just remembered everything I miss So come on, come on, come on, come on down the rowe You'll believe exactly what your told Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Ya, Oh Oh Oh Oh, Ya, Ya Ya Ya
Steve Lillywhite produced some awesome albums in the 1980's and 1990's by XTC, the La's, Big Country P. Furs, U2, and this album by the Thompson twins to name a few
Yes, most people only ever heard their chart stuff. I am desperate to get hold of the 12" LP version of watching, it had such a different sound to the album version, can't find it anywhere though.

This was the track I played the most from this album back in the day. I liked the ethereal sound
Love this song. An amazing mix of driving, post-punk rhythm and good old fashioned psychedelia. One of my all time favorite 80s tunes.

Sometimes the best song on the album never gets released as a single, this is incredible.

They were the first band I ever got into when I was a teenager in the 80s, loved this album, not many people heard this.

"The Rowe"
Come on, come on down the rowe
You'll believe exactly what your told
And you'll lay down, lay down in shade of trees
Yes, it'll happen to you just like it happened to me
Well I think using my mind
I look around for love but what do I find
I try to relax it's time for a rest
I just can't seem to get out of this mess
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh
Down the rowe
In a birds' nest, I find an egg
Well I break it up and rub it all over my head
And I wonder should I do this or should I do that
And does it matter if this whole story is a matter of fact
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh
Down the rowe
And as a consequence of this
Well I just remembered everything I miss
So come on, come on, come on, come on down the rowe
You'll believe exactly what your told
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Ya,
Oh Oh Oh Oh, Ya, Ya Ya Ya
@DZerthan, You are correct. In fact he plays on almost every song on the album.
Most people have only heard one song from this release, In the name of love.
Watching is another great Thompson twins song ...look it up
Yes it is. They have a lot of great tunes!!!
Late night coming down at F&I (Miami) early '84 b4 all the "reunion" party exploiters ever set foot on that dance floor.

@fyfytj the album was called 'set' but had 'in the name of love' on it
I wish that fellow hadn't left the group to go solo
