Big Idea: Malicious anger is so evil-and God’s judgment so certain-that we must do all in our power to end it and pursue reconciliation with God and others.
1. Diagnosing Our Homicidal Hearts [Matthew 5:21-22]

2. The Authoritative Teaching of Jesus Regarding Anger [Mt. 5:22]

• Anger is a matter of the heart

• Anger is a universal human condition

• Anger is a matter of life and death

• Anger is revealed in our words

• Anger reveals a heart of pride


2. Demonstrating Radical Reconciliation [Matthew 5:23-26]

1. Regarding Worship [Mt. 5:23-24]

• Reconciliation is the only resolution to a heart of anger

• Reconciliation with a brother or sister takes priority over worship


2. Regarding a Legal Situation [Mt. 5:25-26]

• Reconciliation must be made with adversaries

• Reconciliation must be made with God [Mt. 18:21-35; Lk. 12:57-59]

1. The debt we owe the Judge

2. The payment Christ has made

3. The legal advice we must heed: settle out of court!

• Abandon all claims of self-righteousness

• Admit your guilt

• Accept the Mediator
