Thanks. Had this popup for a user inexcel. I assume it must also have 2x data sources in pivot tables or something. Since both where internal I just told them to set public

Hi, thank you very much for this video. It was very informative. I just had a few questions:
    1. If I have two local excel files on my computer, and I merge them - is there any risk of data leaking?
    2. If I wanted to merge data from an online source with private data for analysis, would it be safe if I first imported the data from online, saved in on my computer, and then merged with the private data?
    Thanks

      Hi Jay! Thanks for asking.
      below answers:
      1. if both sources are on your computer, then no.
2.The approach of saving it locally and then merging is definitely safer than connecting directly to an online source. if connecting to an online source, data leaking can occur in case that source supports query folding and you set your inhouse source to a privacy type different than private. you can also connect directly to an online source with a private privacy setting, just be sure not to hit formula firewall. more about it here: www.excelguru.ca/blog/2015/03/11/power-query-errors-please-rebuild-this-data-combination/

I have 2 data sources on my local drive (all are xlsx files). After i merge them in query steps and change the source (other folder) i am getting the error during refresh. How to handle this without changing privacy setting to ignore. I did change the both files to public but it doesn’t work. I am really frustrated. Just merging data which is the main intention..

@@Wzxxx why did you change the source (other folder) after you merged them in query steps. I dont understand what you mean in your 2nd sentence.
