    This is very useful. I just got a contract where I had to finish off some rather complex system that for some bizarre reason was built in WordPress - completely wrong tool for the task.
    I had to show and explain to the client that Laravel would be a 500% better weapon of choice. Also suggested different types of hosting for the project and had to be able to quickly draw a relational database project so that they could understand why Laravel would be better. I won 🙂

    If Shopify is good enough for Tesla, Sephora and Coca Cola, it's good enough the small clients you work with.

    Thank you, Stefan! Great content as always! Your advices help me in my work as a freelance web developer. I'm immensely greatful to you for your advice about receiving payment for a project in 3 steps/portions. It's been invaluable to me since what you said about clients behavior is so true. From Russia with respect and appreciation 🤝

    Uncle Stef, why isn't Ruby, and Ruby on Rails popular anymore. I really like Ruby (not so much Rails) but there are few learning resource produced anymore 🤔
    One day I will listen to you. Your advice fits my situation and needs. So why stupid me still persists with Node, React etc beats me :o!

    • @billybest5276
      @billybest5276 5 місяців тому

      Nothing wrong with that. I spent my first year working as a freelancer using Node/React even for clients using squarespace, wordpress, shopify. Sometimes it just made a lot more sense to work and build the solution on a separate server. Also if you can put the time to build your own cms/dashboard in react it's an easy sell for content heavey websites. When your making hundreds of updates on articles/coupons/etc and have to wait for page loads every time and sometimes they hangup and error can be very annoying and a waste of time. Spend the time to build the things you need regularly and just reuse and tweak them.

    Idk how convenient freelance is. Small businesses asking non realistic job(sometimes) in non realistic deadline. One more thing is that it's not as well paid as other type of companies where you can scale up the level and salary.
    Btw No low/no code, AI and millions of new developers killed the pros of being freelancer like years ago. Just learn FE/BE architecture and look any medium/big company

      I would spend about a week studying the market. I think you will see both are good. So, the next step is to spend say 4-5 days messing around with each so you can figure out what you like.

    This is really informative, but be careful with the AI stuff. Its not intentionally malicious, but it can give you false information confidently and if in the hands of the wrong person, can give out information on a database that its not supposed to depending on what it has access to

      to get started try looking around at local business nd see who needs a website or who needs a better website. For example you find a website and run a lighthouse test. You see it has shitty performance, seo, availability and its also not mobile responsive. You now email or call that business and tell them that and say how you could fix it and why..
