I’m learning this opening. Its straightforward and to the point
There should be a Smuckers gambit, with a name like that it's gotta be good.
Thanks Grandmaster, I've never heard of this before.
It also looks very suspicious
this looks so sus I feel like I'm on a space station and this opening is a quiet crewmate I don't quite recognize.
What an obscure gambit. I guess there is a reason why no one heard of this gambit.
Another great gambit!
waiting for a bertin gambit video, very nice series you got going on
Thanks! I was wondering what happens after 1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 c5 4.cxd5 cxd4 5.dxe6. I thought this is a funny way to lose a knight and then get it back through promotion: 5...dxc3 6.exf7+ Ke7 7.fxg8=N+, and White is much better (similar to trap in the Albin Counter-gambit). But of course 5.dxe6? is just met with 5...Bxe6, and Black is better, without having gambited a pawn.
I actually found this line in one of my games, was quite proud of myself it's the only time I thought up a "trap" by myself. Was wondering if anyone was gonna mention it. I disagree with you, I think dxe6 does work well. If you're 1200-1300 or less like me must people will probably fall for the "free" Knight. Worst case scenario if they don't fall for it 5. Bxe6 and 6. Ne5. Yes black is better but it's far from unplayable at that level. If they capture the knight and you proceed 6.exf7+, there's every chance they play 6.Kxf7 and blunder the queen. If Ke7 promoting to a knight is better according to the engine, but I argue that a queen is better because most low level players will panic and grab the queen with their rook, then 8. Bg5+ wins the queen. Even if they don't fall for that, the worst case scenario for you is they trade queens and then you capture the pawn on b2. Then you're up two pawns, with the black king in a slightly more awkward position.
Difference between a Grand Master and me... I instantly forget everything Ben shows... He could literally show the same gambit 20 times with different names and I wouldn't know.
I wonder what your thoughts are on the Reti/Tennison Gambit :)
Looking forward to the Botez gambit video
Video about Jerome Gambit would be fun.
One of my all time favorite series of chess videos is Ben's lessons from St. Louis. Would love to see Ben do these types of videos in more depth like that where he spends up to an hour or so on a single topic/lesson.
Great video Ben I’m going to try this out and call it Van Helsing Gambit which sounds cooler so I’ll get an even better position
What do you do when Queen retreats to E3 instead of D1?
Nb4 looks rather annoying for white.
We want the Morphy gambit
Magnus also recently used it against Shankland, just good for reference :)
Thanks Ben! I would play Tarrash just to get rid of the central pawns, like the game doesn't start until you develop. Playing blitz positional understanding is lost when you don't see all the avalible moves.
For bad players, like myself, getting 6 pieces out with the possibility to castle can still be bad because we don't really know how to attack, and we're playing with a pond down.
He didn't say "This Grandmaster Ben Finegold" just "Ben Finegold"
It does have a cool name, think I will play it
