When I watched the movie, I didn't understand why julia wouldn't want to meet Julie....... Now I understand. 😑
Kassandra Cordero absolutely, Julia child was a faithful woman to husband through all the fame and fortune over years. Julia Powell has fame for 12 months and thinks she’s getting the raw end of her marriage vows, very very selfish woman
@@louisefarrington9170 JULIE Powell..not Julia. JULIE does not compare to Julia. Julia did not want to meet Julie because simply put..Julie Powell used Julia Child's name to make money..and Julia saw through Julie's whole scheme.
This is why you can't judge a book by its cover. If you met her in passing you'd think she was a kind, soft spoken and intelligent woman. You'd never know the inner rage and hatred under the surface.
I doubt she even cooked all the Recipes like in the Movie. Like Julia Child said There was no pictures she took of her cooking or factually describing in detail what they tasted like. I think she did it all for Publicity.
Well dang...no wonder julia child didn't want to meet her...I wouldn't want to meet her either dang
Why so! Explain.. I really would like to know.. what happened to Eric?
@@priyankakabiraj5157 she just so different from the movie... in fact now seeing her and seeing how she is. Theres even a chance she lied about cooking all the recipes in a year, the reason she didnt wanna meet her in the first place(and also the reason that caught my curiosity and got me here) is because she felt she had no heart for the culinary arts... for her it was just trying to get famous by trying to make all the recipes in a short amount of time, everyone can copy a recipe but doesnt mean itll taste the same... lowkey I feel she wanted to call her a liar but didnt want bad publicity.. seeing this video and seeing her... there's a huge chance she did it all for money. The way she acts and talks about her affair against her husband as if it's a bandaid... idk too many signs to run the opposite way when interacting with the real woman
I hated her character in the movie and can see now that was a softened version of this extremely self centered user.
I've watched the movie soo many times. In fact, when the movie is no longer in instant streaming on netflix i plan to buy a copy.
However, the Julie Powell in the movie is who I like. Not this one. I'm sorry, but I just have no love or fascination for the real Julie Powell.
The only reason why I looked her up was because I thought she was gonna be cool like Amy Adam's portrayal. Guess not :( The movie will always have a special place in my heart.
I look at it the same way as in tne film when fictional Julie is having to come to terms with the fact that Julia does not live up to her expectations. Eric tells her "the Julia in your head is perfect. That's the one that counts". I don't let the terrible and unappealing real life Julie ruin that wonderful movie for me
Oh it’s obvious why Julia hated her. Amy Adams is such a sugarcoated portrayal of this disgusting woman.
Wow... I like Amy Adam's character.. what a shatter seeing this after the movie. She laughs & smirks while talking about the affair as if it was just a small cut
I didn't know the characters were real since I am not from the us, but I thought Julia Child was a bitch for criticizing Julie but now that I learned the irl people, I salute Julia Child for seeing through that farce.
Anyone else wanna burn that cardigan?
I like her fictional movie part than her
I find it very sad that Julie Powell has written a book, with hopes of profit, about her selfish, hurtful, and cruel ways she treated those close to her.
From an LA Times Article: "At various points in the blog, she confesses to loathing beans, olives, anchovies, salad, spinach, eggs and even fresh peas (“little green sacs of wet flour”).
Not even allergic...just annoyingly picky. Someone who is so close-minded in food cannot possibly appreciate the culinary art as Julie Child did. The Chef said it the best that this project was nothing more than a stunt.
Ironic how this never came up in the movie. The Amy Adams Julie would never do this :)
Wow...They made her a huuuuge favor by having Amy Adams playing her role in the movie!
She so different from the movie I'm so disappointed on her because I love the charecter that Amy adams play
Don't let it ruin the film for you. True she got some credit and a payday for it, butit was the film makers, cast and production people who made the film so great.
I’m currently reading the book and she sounds exactly like I expected. It also doesn’t surprise me because throughout the book she talks about her jealously towards her single friends and their love adventures. Also, while being an intern she talks in detail about having a crush on an actor and how later on Erik buys tickets to see this actor because he knows how much she loves him. That’s all I have read so far and I’m excited to compare the book to the movie
I just finished the movie. I was so excited to see your update, after reading your comment, Then you never updated, the compasions 😟 .... I was so excited to find out. Please do tell, Spill all the Tea 😆.... I cant wait to hear.

If she mentioned that Julia Child wanted nothing to do with her project at THE BEGINNING of the book, I doubt anyone would of wasted their time.
She is so creepy
She won’t be treating anyone rude anymore.

Ten years later and this is still cringe worthy. There’s just something about her that’s just so....off. Blah.

Wow...this interview just makes you realize how good of an actress Amy Adams is...to be able to make this horrid excuse of a woman likeable was a job well done.
BTW as a man, how can her husband look at himself in the mirror, have some respect for yourself man and kick her to the curb...what redeeming qualities does this woman have? From her attitude and looks..I am shocked that she got one man, let alone two.
This brought a smile to my face

Despicable and disgusting. No surprise Julia Child never endorsed this sociopathic, narcissistic, pathetic excuse for a woman.
I get why julie child didnt like her now.
Sometimes artists don't write for an audience. Often times they write to cleanse themselves of something, almost an exorcism through literature, so they can move on. I loved Julie and Julia, both book and film, and it saddens to see that the character's image is tarnished because of this new book. I don't condone infidelity at all, but if Powell has found some catharsis through writing about it, so be it. It's her choice if she wants to get it out there, really.
I dunno....your comment makes me think of John Wayn Gacey selling his weird clown paintings from prison. Maybe he's an artist getting catharsis by exorcism or whatever. That doesn't necessarily earn him a gold star.

I’ve seen the movie like 3 times. It you focus it’s all about her and not her husband at all. She literally never even asks how his day is. Meanwhile he comes home and just listens to her talk about herself and her mother. She’s crazy.
Can't say I cared for her blog, her J/J book or her cleaving book. Bad language is just an excuse for not having a better vocabulary to me and I did not care to read about her affairs. In the garbage is where those books went before I even finished them. I think the screen play for Julie and Julia gleaned every bit of goodness it could out of that blog and gave us a nice sanitized story. Julia had a happy marriage that didn't need any "cleaving" to make it grow. I guess that's the difference between Julie and Julia from my readings. It's sad though that both are gone now. Perhaps Julie would have written something better in her old age as Julia did.
Boy the film really airbrushed her, she just seems so careless and doesn’t seem to hold her marriage very high
Barely made it thru this interview, couldn’t make it thru that CF that was CLEAVING...this woman gives decent human beings a bad name!
I'm in the process of reading Julie and Julia, and the whole time I've been reading it I've been thinking, "bitch!" Obviously it's not just in the book.
Now I know why they had to make Amy Adams look unattractive in Julie and Julia.
I am nearly finished reading Julie and Julia. I am such a lazy reader, but I can't put the book down. I am so disappointed now. I think it's great that she is so honest, but why write such a tawdry book?
She use to be angry and very jealous now she isnt here.
I can not understand why everyone is so repulsed by her here... it's an interview, of course it's self centered. It's not like she's recording herself and uploading a video of herself talking about herself--- there's a demand for information about her and she's willing to be honest about it without sugar-coating or exaggerating. If you're disgusted by this video there is something wrong with you, or you're just reading the word "affair" and copying other commenters' tones.
Hopefully after 12 years you can come back & rewatch this & understand now why everyone was repulsed by her. If not, all I can say is to seek help or at the very least refrain from marriage.
Why is she acting so weird? Like "pretending"?

I can't believe that after all that she went thorugh writing her blog and after all she put her husband Eric through she could cheat on him for TWO years!! And to be so selfish and practically not care about her husband by staying with the man she was cheating on him with... What kind of person is she? There are so many different ways to make your marriage work but affairs aren't one of them. Sad Eric had to go through that... Shame on Julie and glad she couldn't meet Julia while she lived
holy shit an affair for 2 years? engagements dont even last that long if true love is there. what the hell. oure gonna do it again...2 years? poor erik...hply shit. dude left you and erik hung around. i have no respect for women who need a man stringing along to drop the old.

yeah exactly.. she would have been just right for those at the house of comm.. well house of whoremmons . the thing they get up to ,,those after parties ..god bless her RIP
she's being honest, and you can hear her voice shake as she starts talking about it. being that she's on the air, I think she was trying to keep her composure and moving forward.
It is a little weird that when famous authors like Updike, Roth etc... incorporate infidelity in barely-concealed autobiographical fiction , criticism of them is seen as political correctness and doesn't really alter their reputation as Grand Men of letters. Yet some of the criticism on this video for a more honest attitude is particularly shrill. Regardless I'm not pro-infidelity, I'm just anti-double standard and hypocrisy.
Lol show me where normal people are applauding famous authors cheating. Girl GTFO
@@charlescharliejpeg I'm not a girl and I literally just gave examples in my comment of authors whose reputations are built on using philandering and infidelity in their work. Anyway who cares about "normal people"? What does that even mean? We shouldn't just use what the majority of "normal people" think as a lodestar for what what's right. Normal people used to watch hangings in public.
Anyway just look at some of the comments here: "This is why you can't judge a book by its cover. If you met her in passing you'd think she was a kind, soft spoken and intelligent woman. You'd never know the inner rage and hatred under the surface." What kind of person sees infidelity in such a childish, melodramatic and shrill way? Maybe incels? I'm very unlikely to ever read this book but I don't think one person out of the many millions of men and women who cheat on their partner writing about it openly is a crime. Especially when so many of the most revered male authors have already done so.
there's something wrong with her....she's got an emotional screw loose.
I like the interview. I think he showed that he read the book.
@Donlakyounomoah I think the reason why she is so "hated" is because her self exposure of her tawdry, sordid little tale was so unnecessary. We did not need to know about her ugly affair. She could have made the story a work of fiction, thereby deflecting criticism from herself. But revealing herself to be the cheater brought down all of this well deserved scorn especially since Amy Adams in the movie played a flawed, but basically likable woman, a portrayal which we now know was untrue.
I feel the attacks on Julie are not fair. You guys are basing her off a character that was glamorized and made to be cutesy in a film. I wish the film stayed true to how it really went down, not everything is all sunshine and rainbows.
@mayarose354 You know, I used to think the same thing. And moreover, I used to think, "why, speak publically about an affair you had, while, you were married, how tacky?"
She looks like she is trying not to cry about her bad choice. If they managed to work through this, that's incredible. A two year affair is pretty huge.
I don't think it's incredible, she shouldn't have gotten a second chance
This is more complicated than a Hollywood movie. Some compassion for both of them please :)
Naw, cheating is wrong. Then she goes and writes a book about it? And then goes on the radio?! SHE should have some compassion
#norefunds
if you dont want to be judge then dont write a book about it
She wished death upon me!
Mmmm yeah she seems selfish and a little enamoured with her own vocabulary. A far cry from Amy Adams lol.
Omg yes! She was hell bent on using every vocabulary word she has ever learned since birth. It comes across as super scripted and disingenuous. And sorry to reply to this comment literally a decade after you wrote it, I just watched the movie and searched for the real Julie Powell and let me say, what a disappointment.
So UNfkable
Lmfao, Rest In Peace to the best author/hot wife.
wait this wasn’t in the movie 😕
@RightWingCon81 He loved her. Love is blind and often make you do very, very stupid things
@denimchiq87 Exactly what I was thinking! I actually feel genuinely pissed off for giving her what she craves so much in reading the book (which incidentally was very poorly written, in my opinion). I have never heard of someone as egotistical and hideously selfish as her. I was misled by the film, originally attracted by the very core of the it - French cooking. By 'idolising' Julia, in a way that the onus is purely on Julie, it completely undemines the sanctity of her alleged admiration.
Read the book Cleaving. Hated it. She came across as *super* smug and pretentious.
Yes it is terrible. Never seen someone destroy their career so absolutely.
Who wants to slap her?🤣
wow shes like proud of wat she did..tlkn bout her affair like shes sauteeing mushrooms!!!!! so sad she used julia to get this lil fame..it wont last lolng tho
She's gone LOL!!!!
@Donlakyounomoah Why is it that whenever we describe someone as human we mean something bad? Why can't being human be noble and good? She carried on an affair in full view of her husband, not giving a damn about the feeling of a spouse--a good man she supposedly loved. Learning what a rat the real Julia Powell is makes it impossibe for me to ever associate her with the sweet, likable woman Amy Adams played in the movie. I don't think I'll ever be able to watch the movie again.
Wow...these comments are atrocious. Listen, I'm not making any excuses for this chick however she was with this dude since she was 18 years old and she is now 45. Some of you judgmental pricks can hold down a relationship for 12 months but you can judge. She must be doing something right because he is still with her. This is life...sometimes shit gets lost in translation but they didnt give up. The stats are that 50 percent of marriages end in divorce and she beat the odds inspite of her affair....how many of yall can say the samen
It’s not normal & even if it was I would never normalize it in my own mind. It’s scary that you are pretty much giving her a pat on the back for lasting 30 years & “only” being unfaithful for 2 of those years. It’s not the fact she cheated, but the way she went about continuing to cheat even after it came to light as opposed to getting a divorce. She has (or had) no conscience. No discernment of right & wrong. If you don’t think it’s a big deal but just “life” then I’m sorry but you have what she has (had).
That’s how she looked knowing she was going to be filmed??!!! Yeesh.... talk about homely as hell 😬
One hit wonder.
Wow, I am reading through all the comments below and can't envy enough the perfect lives that people live! Everybody must be spotless and faultless to be able to criticize so harshly :-)
No wonder she never became an actor. Poor Amy Adams having to portray this woman. Learning about the "real" Julie Powell has now almost ruined this fabulous movie that Amy and Meryl put to life.
It was truly disgusting to read some of the graphic descriptions of her escapades during her affair. When "D" was kind of keeping her at arm's length, and Eric was still carrying on with his own affair. With her colorful swearing throughout the blog itself I don't wonder why Julia never wanted to meet her.
All that being said, she is human. Many people cheat every day, she just happened to write a book about it as catharsis. I do think cheating is the wrong thing to do, no matter what, but let's not bury this woman for making a mistake. She opened herself up to public anger, and ridicule over her indiscretions, and that took courage!
A horribly selfish, egotistical person. The way she laughs about it is psycho-esque. She has ruined the J&J film for me now (which I loved).
Poor Mrs. Powell - it looks like she is interrogated for what she did as it she was the only one. I do not support infidelity per se, but it was her marriage, her choice etc. Now people judge her as if she commited a huge crime. I personally think the interview was lead in an irrelevant way - it seems to me that JP only wanted to answer all those tactless intimate questions and to stay honest.
She did commit a crime in our eyes. The sanctity of marriage was broken by her
Julie, I wish she visits South Korea and eat Korean protein cuisines after the covid19 outbreak is completely over.
Loved the interview, Mrs. Powell is very frank, honest, and to the point. She does not hide nor lie or fluff the affair. Good for her for being honest.
Shouldn’t have had an affair, she clearly thinks little of her husband
After a year of blogging...when it was over, her life was completley different, so I think she just didn't really know what to do with herself. There were no more 'motions' she had to go through. I'm not saying cheating on her perfect husband was a good way to handle it, but everybody handles changes differently. She defnatley beats herself up about it in the book. She knows it was selfish.
The movie is good, but this is disappointing! My goodness..... "Are they still married?" I definetly like Amy Adams more. I hope she learns from her mistake. "Good week to all!"
Wtf?
she got the Fauci Ouchie cl0t sh0t..she effed around and found out..heloolo Bonanza
Great news.
The only thing I can say about it is, that she just sells herself to become more attention (money)... Why would anyone ever to talk about such things in public (that happen so often - and we're all "just humans" if not for money ;-)
Amy Adams played her???
So, let's recap. She cheated on her husband, she continued the affair even after her husband found out about it, and she turned her husband into a public cuckhold by writing a book about it. Good job, Julia.
giggle
Not really cool and embarrassing for her husband for her to talk about it publicly.
Love is a choice, stop blaming him for not growing, it’s pretty hard to be a dedicated to your marriage when your having an affair
She's known to be highly narcissistic so....
Yeah...so for approximately 22 months he was aware of the affair, and he tolerated it?
As depicted in the movie, this woman is pretty much all about herself, and he knew it.
Love is a crazy thing, sometimes it turns people into doormats, I know from personal experience.
But it took me less than 1 month before I came to my senses and regained my self respect, despite the pain of cutting ties with my ex.
I figured that there really was nothing left to salvage at that point.
This woman...Julie...she has got issues that go deeper than narcissism, which is bad enough already.
Julie!! She doesn't even come close to being Julia!!
