In 2009, I came home from a deployment and my oldest son, who was 3 or 4 at the time, wouldn’t eat for almost 2 weeks... Being a father I was obviously concerned, so I asked him about it and his answer really hit me hard… He said, “Dad, if I eat I’ll grow up and if I grow up I’ll become a daddy. And if I become a daddy, I’ll have to leave my family.” My boys barely knew who I was and I couldn’t let them grow up without a father... I realized at that moment my family needed me a lot more than the Navy needed another SEAL. So I put in for retirement the next day… Back then I knew I wanted to be with my family more than anything, so I made changes in my life that allowed me to be at home. We all want more time to spend with the people we love or doing the things we love. That’s why I’m here to help! Once you read my New Rules of Marksmanship you will learn how you can stay at home, and save time and money while you improve your shooting! Good information! I am 66 & been using Brock string for 3 months twice a day for 3 minutes @ a time. My eyes ability to shift focus & to concentrate my focus on the front sight has improved. Shooting hS improved also. Thanks for your time & videos
Hey Chris, retired LEO here. I taught several years in the Law Enforcement Academies in Georgia and had I had this technique, my students would have been even better than they were once they completed my training reel. Thank you my friend for helping an old dog learn new techniques. I love to shoot and had hit the wall and I have been focusing more on my techniques and I knew I had some weak spots and this will help me eliminate several of those. Thank you again and keep up the excellent works.
After watching this I went to the range a few days later. It's unbelievable how much better my grouping was. Even hit the bullseye 4 times, and all the other rounds were very close to it. I wish I could post the pics of the targets before and after. Thank you so much!!
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME EXERCISE ON FOCUSING. NEVER SAW BEFORE THIS UNIQUE METHOD AND WAY OF TRAINING TO IMPROVE MY SHOOTING SKILLS. AMAZING CHRIS. CONGRATS.
Thank you for this video. I have a picture on the wall about 10x12 and i hold up my index finger in front of it. I focus on my index finger first and then the picture. Back and forth it helps alot.
Just got the new book. Looks awesome and it also looks like a lot of work/research went into this. Will probably need to re-read it 5-6 times to digest all the info presented.
you can do eye exercising while driving. it's good practice to look as far ahead as possible anyhow. just shift back and forth between mirrors and traffic ahead.
THANKS for sharing! We're lazy, too, and we'll have to look up how to USE a Brock String, but hey, VERY cool of you to share the idea. We'll have to do that piece of the work. Fair deal. I'm 58 and those irons do NOT work like they used to. Thanks again!
many, many thx chris for these great instruction videos. very happy that i have found such stuff. time for me to resume shooting sport. greetings from switzerland ps, will buy ur books too.
Did you see the webinar I did with the eye docs? A lot of great information on aging eyes. Here's the link if you're interested: chrissajnog.com/vision-webinar
My issue is being far sited in one eye... near sited in the other.... left handed but left eye is blurry so i have to shoot righty.... I still managed to shoot pretty well in the marine corp. .... but this exercise looks like what ive been looking for to help with my pistol shooting (which needs help) LOL ... thanks for the video .... i will try this
Nice video I am going to try some of this bead crap to improve my shooting if that can be done. Now next time I see this bed it better be made sharp and crisp or you can drop and give me 50.
Hey Chris! Great video! I was wondering though. My left eye is great for focusing. But my right is almost a blur when I try to focus so should I just do these exercises with my right eye? And do you have any other advice?
I am an optometrist. The Brock string is used to train people who suppress vision in one eye to stop suppressing and to use both eyes together. It is not used to improve accommodation (Google it) as you are trying to do. Find an optometrist who shoots handguns, and get your eyes examined by that doctor if you want to understand your specific vision problems. There are real and effective solutions. You may be amazed.
This may sound strange; especially since I am ninety years of age and have macular degeneration requiring Eylea every four weeks, but, partly because my grandson is a police officer and partly because of the increased threats from thugs, I have purchased a Ruger LCPII and have taken the CCW Training and tests. Perhaps the only way to resolve my question will be to continue to go to the local range and try shooting with the right and then the left. I am inherently right eye dominant; but, my eyesight in the right eye is 20/70 while the left eye tests at 20/25. I have only put about 75 bullets down range at 7 yards; but, I am not pleased with the groupings. Using the larger paper target of an intruder, I put the first six shot within 12 inches of the center. The next six will be in the lower left and a third set will be toward the top left. Obviously flinching,, fatigue and trigger pull all enter into the equation; but, I am wonderingif you have any data suggesting that shooters do better using the less dominant eye when it is significant better ?
Your ninety years old your awesome sir! keep doing what you're doing sir! may I make a suggestion or few sir; I would try a different pistol like a medium or full-size handgun. Like an M&P, XD or a Glock anything with a lower bore of an axis with big dot sights I'd also put though's on your current pistol as well. one more thing I'd add for home defense I'd pick up Savage arms AR-15 then pick-up a Black spider optic. it would be easier to shoot that way you could focus more on your dominant eye, also when mentioning about the lower bore of axis pistols they are usually easier to see with especially with the big dot sights they allow you to see much more clear and be able to mostly focus on your front sights because they are that easy sir then with Chirs's practice of shooting knowledge it would help you become an awesome shooter, sir!. Your welcome sir! again your so awesome you're doing the right thing.
Do you have anything in regards to an eye that had a piece of metal in it and it was scarred, so that the left eye is dominant. Will the Brock string still be beneficial?
How can I train my eyes to beat Myopia? I am near sighted and struggle to see things far away. Glasses were a solution, but wow how annoying they can be at times..
I guess when you buy a product with your own money , you get to do what ever you want or need to do with it. That's how I see it anyway.I'm going to try this too!!!
Can you do vid on hand placement. I see thes many using a high grip with both thumbs forward. My issue is, i dont see how they get up on the pistol so high. The back of the grip has the dove tail. I use a Deawoo DP51 and a Keltec PF9. I am right hand.. Also, I seen how you hold the pistol and your right hand looks a lot higher than mine while I hold my pistol. Thanks, S.
I have a question. I wear contact lenses with a monovision setup which means one lens is for closeup and one is for distance, but both together I can see clearly. Which eye should I focus with for my sight picture.
I have a similar issue except my dominate hand side has a blurry eye... so as a lefty .. i shoot righty. Go with the dominant hand if your clear on both eyes.
Dear George Barbarow, Success in changing to the non-dominant eye varies from person to person. I would suggest adding a laser to your pistol so you can focus on the target and not the gun sights. With both eyes open and focusing on the threat (target), eye dominance becomes moot. If you cannot achieve the desired accuracy using a laser, your problem is trigger technique. An instructor may help, but there are many UA-cam videos on the subject. My favorite is by GunBlue490. Also, your Ruger LCPII may not be the best choice to achieve consistent trigger control. An instructor and experimenting with other (larger) guns can help to answer that. Eylea is a miracle drug for wet macular degeneration. I'm happy to hear that you are shooting at age 90. Life is a gift to be enjoyed. -Victor
Whenever I focus both eyes on the front sight post, I see two targets. One with an awesome sight picture and the other WAYYYY off. And there doesn't seem to be consistency as far as the one on the left or right being the correct one. The only way I can determine which is which is to momentarily close one eye. Anyone else have this problem?
Hey Chris, I've got a question. I just recently picked up an Aimpoint Comp M4 for my DD M4V1 and I was wondering what you would advise as far as focusing with a red dot? I've watched your videos and have applied them to my shooting and they have proven quite useful. I want to apply this to my red dot if possible. This question is intended for Chris, but anyone with insight who is willing to give advice, it would be greatly appreciated.
From what i understand this eye exercise would help you too ... but a red dot uses slightly different technique when aim threw it... Don't put the dot under the target like the way you do with irons. keep it centered... I think you will find that they are the fastest way to engage targets. Either way ... training your eyes in this manner just seems to help maintain focus and switching quickly from target to target.... im no expert .. but hope that helps
The problem with this technique, is that when you are facing a real threat, your brain automatically focuses on threat. It works good with beginners shooting on paper but there is an entire science to instinctive shooting. As an analogy, think of the difference between shooting a free throw and shooting a jump shot with a defender in your face. The best trap or skeet shooters do not focus on the front sight. They mount the gun and point to an area where the target and the rounds intercept. Somewhere on youtube there is a guy who hits 100 and 200 meters with a 1911 with no front sight post. Look up natural point of aim also. Your brain works wonders if you let it. The same principals apply with athletes throwing anything from footballs to frisbees. Did you ever wonder how a person can hit the only tree or telephone pole on the side of the road during a skid? They are focusing on where they don't want to hit, instead of where they want to go. Not trying to be disrespectful to Mr. Sajnog. I worked with lots of SEALs and have tons of respect for them. However there is never a single tool in the toolbox that works in all situations.
I read about some special trained cops who were facing a criminal spree, in New York, I think. They faced various criminals over time shooting a number of them. They say they used sigths and deliveres above average precission and shot placement. I think that is why you train, to overcome natural instincs and do better. of course, I also think you can train shooting without using sigths. Those 2 concepts are different tools. Closeness and urgency negates the necesity for precise aim. In a stressful situation, if you can see your sigths aligned the weapon is well aimed. If you dont use sigths in a stressful situation, you may not now for surewhat you are doing.
You can still use your sights even! I superimpose my sights over the target but keep my focus on the target. It's very fast, maybe not drilling the same hole, BUT all within a couple inch group and twice as fast and trying to switch focal planes
I don't have any trouble focusing on the front sight. I have serious trouble lining it up with the rear sights and target, being that looking at the front sight with both eyes open means I see two sets of rear sights and two targets.
ytmndan I have the exact same problem, I find that if I move the gun more towards the dominant eye it will pick it up more, if you still see double you can squint the non dominant eye a bit. Works for me, hope it helps.
+John Doe Sight alignment, sight picture, clear front sight tip. Once you have the sights properly aligned and on target your front sight focus should render all else fuzzy. There's no problem to fix.
A video about improving your focus, and the entire video was shot out of focus. Hilarious!!!! But thanks for the great information anyway. Keep up the good work.
I almost had to use eye glasses for the very first time in my life. The eye sight development procedure fetching gobam site (Google it) was a huge help as it alleviated the strain. Ever since I made use of the product, there was less squinting and I felt grateful I found this product instantly when I made a decision to usage products treat my vision. I feel as if my eyes are healthier and my sight has been enhanced..

I don't have a brock strings
Does this work for people who wear glasses
I see double if I keep both open will this improve
Yes, it will.
No. You will see single on the bead you are focusing. the others will be normally double unles you have some visual function deficiency.
How often should this be done, and for how long each time?
Do you have measurements would like to make my own. 😊
Just need a 6 foot piece of string. The problem is you need to buy beads and they only come in bags of 1000.
who guys one here hope to change focus
