Hey Mr. Terry. In reference to the potential issues trying to record next weeks podcast…(258), don’t sweat it. I don’t recall y’all making a definite commitment on putting one out every week. But you guys have, and that’s been a real blessing. So, thank you for that! Take a week off and enjoy the time away from the B.S.!
Woodsman ship you either have or you don’t; you learn it by spending time in the woods as a youngster, and having interest in more than just deer it’s observing everything out there
Love your show .This is just my opinion I like to see kids nock down a few average bucks before they start trophy hunting just have fun and pop some does they can be trophies also.
For the most part i agree. But if i am taking a kid hunting and a giant walks out, i am not going to tell him can’t shoot it because it will spoil him.
Ease up Terry. Guy just shared an opinion. Maybe a little snarky about it, but it’s just his take. Not everyone thinks consultants are experts, and truth be told many of you could use a spoonful of humility. Just my take. I’m just a blue collar nobody that’s hunted 40 some years. Have a great day fellas.
Yeah they were way too sensitive about how they took the question. And he made a good point: if you plow brush to block off deer movement and funnel them down to walk past a heated box blind, your woodsmanship goes out the window.
And I also use trail cameras like you all do stop judging people. Your not famous stop acting like you are. We are all hunters STICK TOGETHER STOP BEING A HYPOCRITE!!!!!!!
It's ok for Don to be blunt and straight forward but apparently not anyone else. Lol. Good for Don to not dodge a question that many have ask but I doubt many has submitted.
I live in Maine, winters aren't what they used to be snow wise but we still get rough winters , especially when you live outside like wild animals. I've seen mature bucks still have their racks in late February. I've gotten multiple videos of a mature buck chasing a doe in mid January.
@chasing_giants_tv_terrypeer not what it used to be, hunting as a kid I remember freezing my rear off even wearing a huge winter coat, now I'm usually complaining it's too warm, often get 50-60 degree days in November and of course we can't hunt Sundays and the state has really done some dumb things in the past 10 or so years when it comes to hunting anything from doubling the moose permits they give out to handing out doe permits like candy on Halloween.
@chasing_giants_tv_terrypeer put it this way yesterday and today were 35-40 degrees and tonight it's supposed to drop down to single digits and snow 4-8 inches. There's a saying in Maine " if you don't like the weather wait a minute it'll change "
If your land is in dire need of tsi projects its probably not holding any deer you would be worried about bumping. Id say putting fresh tops on the ground when food is sparse would be the equivelent of a food plot. I would be firing up the saw.
Is New York the closest you guys come to the real Northeast? Ever go to Massachusetts or Connecticut? I'ld love to go to a chasing giants seminar so I can be a don Higgins trained consultant. Jk , but honestly is New York as far east as you guys go?
Lots of commenting from me today. Here where I live in south west Wisconsin where I live my land has become surrounded by archery hunters .In the last five years it went from about 3 hunters to 12 .No one can figure out where all the big bucks went well there dead or nocturnal. One land owner did a fly over after gun season on what I call the local block say 1000 acres counted 45flat tops and 2 big bucks .This makes me sick.
The problem is the need to kill a trophy deer. Deer hunting is now trophy hunting. There are more deer now than ever before .and hunters are still not happy . They always need a bigger buck. I think hunters need to take a step back and reflect on what deer hunting is really about.
It’s about evolution .. Not all of us hunters want to go kill anything that walks . I enjoy the outdoors and the habitat management just as much as I do the kill albeit as we grow older ,a trophy is on the agenda . I enjoy allowing them to walk and watch them grow through the years .. I can constantly harvest 130s now after a few years of passing up 1-2 year olds . I’m anxious to see what the next 3 years bring to the table.🙏🏽💪🏻
It's funny I know so many guys that shoot the first 60lb fawn that walks in front of them and then complain they don't see big bucks or as many deer as there used to be. Not to mention the 12+ people hunting the same 100 acres and all do the same, shoot the first doe that walks in front of them. I live in Maine , southern Maine and game cameras opened my eyes to the type of deer that are around here. Up north can get deer pushing 300lbs and down here 200lb deer every year.
There may be more deer in some areas (not all) but the age structure is no where near what it was. You can’t shoot big bucks consistently if you can’t hunt old bucks. People come here to listen and discuss big bucks. There is other shows that talk about filling the freezer
@chasing_giants_tv_terrypeer reason the age structure is down is the technology. Too easy to find a nice buck and hunt him now. And most people don't have the willpower or fully managed farm like you to let a 170" 4 year old walk.
Man you are really confusing me on cell camera use. Do you think we should ban the technology. I kind of do . Presure is real heavy on big bucks. How do we stop it . I must say taking the pictures is a sport in its own.
When you use cell cameras, hyper manage your deer farm and top it off with a fence on one end or whatever you can’t rant about woodsmanship. Running a whitetail habitat consulting business is the exact opposite of promoting woodsmanship. There is absolutely zero woodsmanship required, just money. As the proprietor of the business you are trading this core value for money. This is fine but just be honest, money is more important to you than woodsmanship..
@@Mo75149-jthat is probably one of the most over generalized prejudice comments i have ever seen on here. It is the equivalent of me saying all poor hunters shoot out of their trucks with beer cans on the floor. There is no correlation with money and skill. You have people on both sides of the economic scale that are on both extremes of the woodsman’s ship. For every rich yuppie that buys a turnkey farm there is a guy with no money that doesn’t know what a deer turd is. The skill comes from the effort and experience one has put into the woods. I can’t agree that you can across the board tie a money variable to that skill set
@@chasing_giants_tv_terrypeer not the equivalent. I didn't say All. I said most but probably should have said some. Hunting has became a money game whether we want to admit it or not. Lease prices, land prices, everything in between. It's a shame the direction it's going. Just about everything is pro hunter, when does it stop. It's absolutely crazy. Coming from someone who manages for older age class bucks yes. Even I need to draw a line and that's different for everyone. I know several outfitters that say their clients try to pay them 10k plus for the biggest buck they know of and want to shoot him on a bait pile. I love what you guys promote for the kingdom and helping others. Everyone has the right to hunt how they wish at any cost I do agree. But true woodsmanship like what's written in Bobby's new book I have is a thing of the past for the most part. Most, not all want it easy nowadays, and will pay for it. To each there own. I can walk the woods with the best of them. Not bragging, just live to learn through trial and error. Boots on the ground always learning is my preference to hunt.
Im not against Don or terry but Trophy hunting is about the most negative sport ever. Trophy hunting is killing the sport, hunters bashing other hunters arguing over bucks . I understand management and having goals, but to the level of putting fences up? Tell me how is that good for the sport. I agree with cell cams. Too easy now there won't be as many 200s anymore. Drones, box blinds, property manipulation, fences, feeders, why not just go shoot a pen deer. You're basically hunting one with all the setups and knowing the general location of your target buck through technology. To each their own though.
Don you may be weird but I love the deer too! There needs to be a balance between conservation and harvesting. Love you guys. God bless!

I think Eric Gusman's question was very tactful and respectful.
I am sure there is a lot of people that feel the same way. Sometimes stuff just hits a nerve.

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery!!
You should try living in Wisconsin . It’s always cold here and the deer live fine you baby them like they are lambs come on guys hunt.
And wisconsin is # 1 Boone Crockett entry state, even with all that cold stress!
Only sheds I worry about are on a deers head.
