Hello friends! There's a saying that everything created by God is beautiful. Today, we delve into the story of why an actress's career was marred solely because of her weight. Despite being born into a family of superstars and inheriting exceptional acting talent, Preeti Ganguly never achieved the success she deserved. She was typecast in similar roles throughout her career but never gave up hope. She eventually lost weight, but by then, the industry had moved on, and she was no longer the preferred choice.
Preeti Ganguly, born on May 17, 1953, was the youngest daughter of the legendary Ashok Kumar. Many mistakenly believe she was married to the famous comedian Deven Verma, but in reality, he was married to her elder sister Rupa. Preeti remained unmarried, struggling with weight issues throughout her life, which impacted both her career and personal life. She was lovingly called 'Paloo' by her family and friends. Known for her wit, cheerfulness, and resilience, Preeti's journey in Bollywood began with the 1974 film 'Dhuen Ki Lakeer', directed by Kishore Sahu.
Over the next decade, Preeti excelled in comic roles in films like 'Anpadh', 'Anurodh', 'Damad', 'Swami', 'Balika Vadhu', 'Khel Khel Mein', and 'Laila Majnu'. However, it was her role in 'Khatta Meetha' that planted the seed of becoming a lead actress, encouraged by her co-actor Ranjit Chowdhry. Determined to lose weight, she succeeded in shedding about 50 kilos, but filmmakers hesitated to cast her as a lead actress. Consequently, she lost numerous roles, which went to Guddi Maruti, who filled the void Preeti left behind.
Despite her weight loss, Preeti didn't find the success she hoped for. In 1993, she opened her own acting school and dedicated herself to teaching. As time passed, she moved on from her unfulfilled dreams. Unfortunately, Preeti passed away at a young age on December 2, 2012. Her passing went unnoticed by many, a stark contrast to her vibrant spirit and immense talent.
