Adam, thought you would win 1st price, but proud the guy won the 1st price, he was priceless when didn’t care about time expires and made the fish go live again
Thanks for all you, and your wife do for the fishing community. Always enjoy your videos. Hoping to get back to the surf when my health improves. Until then, I’ll live vicariously through you and the community.
It's nice to see that fish released. Large stripers like that used to be common back in the day but water management issues along with over harvesting made it more rare to catch them at that size. Awesome catch Eric.
Those are the ones that can bend hooks and come off. You never forget the fight of 40+ inch stripers in the surf! I upgraded all my treble hooks the first time I seen one come up close to shore on one of my lucky craft lures...the next wave it was gone and two of my trebles were bent almost straight.
Fish like that one, and larger, were common from the surf during the ‘70s…Party Boats would use live bait for Stripers by fishing outside the breakers of the San Mateo coast, also the South Tower of the GGB, Alcatraz Rockpile and Seal Rocks
they get bigger than that! they go around & gorge themselves with anchovies & get fat & ready to move up thru the bay & into the delta to spawn, BIG, BIG, BIGGER!
It takes lots of folks to do what you did in the Tourney. But I think the most rewarding thing to you can do to any surf fisher is to have YOU >THEN FISHING come up along side you on the beach/surf and say hi fisher. How's the fishing?
I’m glad a normal Joe won first instead of the UA-camrs. He also gets props for spending time and patience releasing that big fish. Props to that winner all around!
This was a dope catch to watch for sure Iv been reading and seeing videos online saying to not hang them by the jaw anymore, especially big ones like this, because it will either break their spine or dislocate their jaw and make it unable to feed. I myself have never yanked in a monster like that before ever 😂 I bet it was a serious fight to bring it in.
Its tough releasing a fish that big and it was probably tired from the fight. This bass caught in the surf fought against that tough current/surf. He did a good job. That’s a big fish to hold onto the mouth with your hand. I’ve caught them around this size but in the delta. I net them and leave in the water while I unhook. If they don’t make it or I gut hook, I’ll take home and eat it.
Looks like a great time! Nice video all around. Heading to a perch tournament/ meet up in southern oregon this week in hope of my first striper too 🤞 🐟🤘
It was a great event, but I can’t believe myself I missed the event, I was signed up and registered for the competition and did not make it due to other reason. I’ll try again next year. Congratulations to all winners. and Congratulations to all staff of MORE THAN FISHING . Great Job…
Huge contrast in the way the stripers were cared for between Diehard and Erick. Diehard barely tried and let it go almost immediately, where it ended up getting slammed around by the surf, while Erick did right by getting in the surf, waiting a long long time, and making sure it was revived before letting go.
I've only been surf fishing a handful of times and haven't had too much luck (Gray Whale Cove, Ocean Beach, Montara, Half Moon Bay, San Gregorio, Pomponio). I've asked the same question and was recommended all of those places. I was at Seacliff for Father's Day and had the best time surf fishing there. I went early with two of my buddies and got a picnic table, left our bbq stuff there and fished right in front until noon. We only caught a couple of decent size Barred surf perch (9") but a lot of action with smaller ones and my very first leopard shark! Shrimp and Gulp Sandworms are the way to go. Didn't dig up any soft shell sand fleas but I heard they work pretty good and might even get a striper. It gets pretty busy with onlookers and people swimming close to where you're fishing by noon but that's when you start up the grill anyway!
Nothing like the old days (1950's and 1960's) when there were thousands of hardy fishermen casting into the surf line and landing 40 and 50 pound strippers. After the sate began building their dams and big ag started to divert and siphon off all the water, the fishing crashed and a way of life for those who who loved the sport of surf fishing was lost forever. And today Governor Gavin Newsom is nailing the final nail into our once robust fishery. Thank you State of California for destroying our way of life...
I agree; especially with the big dams and Ag's desire for more water. in the '50's-70's my Dad and I fished from Cliff house south to Princeton and big stripers were common and there was lots of them!! There were many other governors and legislators before Newsom all fighting power of lobbying groups. Just yesterday they started dams on the Klamath River.
There are still some giant striped bass that live in the upper Calif delta. You just have to hunt them with big lures. Last year 4 were caught and released over 50 lbs. The Region from Rio Vista to the surf is what has been severely hurt by peripheral canals and the corruption of almond and pistachio growers of the westalke region

One of your best video/events ever. Congrats to all the competitors and winners. And to everyone involved, you guys are all winners🏆 👍👏
Thank you!
!hat a great day! Congrats to Eric on that release! Did a great job taking care of the fish and not to mention he caught it on a barbless hook!
Nice seeing you there bro!

I never would've guessed a striper would get that big in the wild. I felt like a champ when I caught a 27" striper.

What an A-hole to the winner!! Your dad literally caused every fisherman to become addicted beyond their logic hahahaha
Solid win!!!
Does anyone know what they were using to catch those stripers? Awesome video btw bro 😎
You should fry sand crabs like the old video you did and see if they still catch as good or even better
Dammit I miss it........
halimaw striper weeew!!!
Any good spots for surf fishing that someone can recommend me…. I’m new to the bay and looking for good areas for surf fishing
