@MrHamburgg: I couldn't agree with you more. Growing up in India in the '70s, the Windies for us were fearsome but respectable adversaries - we admired them, and ungrudingly. The arrogance of the Australians, especially under Ponting, completely takes away any admiration I might have had for the execution machine they have been until recently.
The WIndians played fluent, clean, nasty and devastating cricket. Every cricket playing nation both the cricketers and fans respected this team because the spirit of cricket was high in their agenda. Never used sledging or any other dirty tricks to win a game. All that they had was their cricketing skills. Thats why though they were undisputable champions of those days, they were given hero's welcome where ever they went. unlike today's australia who dumped the spirit of cricket in graveyard.
@onsomefarawaybeach1 don't you think they were made to look sorry-assed by the bowling? Holding, Marshall, Garner and Baptiste relieved by the Master Blaster. I would defy any team not to look sorry-assed against that combo.

I always appreciated the friendly rivalry that Viv Richards and Ian Botham had between them. You don't see it anymore.
