"I need to know how to be a better driver in order to dictate how to be a better builder" people can trash talk you all they want, but they can't trash talk your mentality. You might take some wrong turns along the way but you never waste an opportunity to learn and do things better yourself. Well done!
The Gordon Murray approach produced the greatest road car ever built. Seeing @Robdahm take that approach is what makes him my favorite cartuber.
I am sooo excited and this last bit was the kicker. You're exactly right.
Typically trash talkers are lazy people who have time to trash talk because they have nothing else to do.
People who achieve anything fail more then they succeed. They get back up and try again learning from their mistakes which will lead to success.
This thing is relentless… never seen an RX7 move so quickly without being 100% drag-focused. With a full time attack spec aero kit this thing could be a record breaker (if it isn’t already)!
Call Andrew Brilliant!
It has the WR for most badass car ever.
I’m gonna agree with u on that, this is the baddest car on the planet
Not going to break any track records with that much understeer. Would have to have a full TT aero shovel on the front and be on a high speed fluid track.
There are no words for this car, utterly speechless how crazy this thing is
Soften your front suspension and it won't understeer nearly as much. You really want the nose to drop into a corner to the point where it's almost touching. That maximizes your front air dam, and it transfers weight to the front tires. With good geometry, it will also increase camber and effective pivot offset.
Even with sub-par geometry, the weight transfer and additional camber/pivot will help alot.
Damn I'm impressed by that ad hoc setup/alignment/suspension knowledge
this guy comes thru
I trusted him until he said "alot".
Yes! I was just going to recommend the same thing. It's very helpful to do as he's setup currently.
@@DC_DC_DC_DC Sim racing and a shitty track day miata with coilovers tbh.
Couple of tips from an old track rat: who tracked highly modified FDs for many years. Def need aggressive sway bars and urge you to go very high on spring rates. My 2750 wet FD back in the early 2000s was running 1000 front/650 rear rates. Chassis came alive when I went to high rates. Other FD track friends followed suit. About brakes, we ended up totally bypassing the Mazda ABS pump and went full manual with bias-barred twin primary cylinders. Hope this helps your thought process. Love the build.
Replying to my own post... lol... ALso, your comment about no ducting reminded me that I hand-fabbed very tight radiator and twin oil cooler ducts on my nose to help cooling AND add front downforce. I ran the Mazda GTC front end (bodyworked out the square license protrusion) and a flat aluminum nose tray splitter. As you can see, your car is nose up at speed... you can fix that to reduce understeer. This chassis is very neutral by nature.
But since this thing no longer runs anything close to stock style suspension the rates are gonna be completely different.
It'd be closer to an open wheel suspension at this point.
Him being on drag slicks isn't helping either.
Agree on this. Get some penskes or somethig like that built for the car with correct springs and valving. Then add adjustable swaybars. And make sure the chassi is reinforced under the tunnel as well. And ofc proper slicks or street slicks will make a huge diffrence. And the car should be abit higher in the rear to add more weight forward when braking. Also the massive wing will give you understear. So make sure to work on the suspension and geometry to give you a good balance. Once you get the hang of the car with awd you should be able to go much much faster with a slight oversteer.
Glad you're improving your skills not just on building the 4 rotor but on driving it as well. Not gonna lie, I became a bit concerned for a very short bit when the car went lean and went down on power. Nice driving Rob!
That's nothing.
Did you ever imagine this day?
Years ago
Return to Notingham
No body pays that much on a build not to drive it /eventually learn how to haha
So unreal to see this car properly tearing up a track. Congrats Rob, can't wait to see more!
And just think that it can get so much better from here. A scary thought😏
I have been DYING to see your cars DRIVEN MORE. I think most of the audience would be totally cool with you taking a few weeks or even a month off to just drive as much as possible.
So cool to see it taking a full beat down!
The MT tires are a HUGE disadvantage. I realize you're worried about hooking up the power, but drag tires don't make lateral grip. So that is making your understeer issue even worse. The Hoosier A7 would have been my choice for this. A couple laps to get heat and they would have blown your mind.
Looking forward to seeing you keep shaking down the car!
Glad someone commented this, was going to comment this exact same thing! The radial's sidewall are way too soft and pliable, which is great for drag but terrible for cornering.
Also if you notice his tire temp on his dash was still blue (cold).
@@robevox586might not be hooked up .....
Can't wait to see the full races once the full show is produced! She's a beast 🌨️🐻
What’s bangin gears?
any word on when this episode drops?
@@censoredialogue the show comes out this summer i’m pretty sure
@@bhargavkatta1772 oh cool thanks!
Caught myself staring at the speedo most of the time. Watching it go from 98-130 in a flash was pretty amazing to watch. Love it!!!
Same here, it was a beautiful sight
Seeing her go 130 mph all 1 color and doing her job out there was just 🤩😍🤩 Motivational, inspiring, adrenaline rushing, pure joy....I think y'all get the picture. Job well done Rob and the Team 🙌🏾
Every time i watch a car youtuber getting a Koenigsegg factory tour and Christian starts talking big engineering and mechanical jargon it comes to my mind that a video with Rob and Christian talking techical stuff about cars would be pure gold. Both are soo knowledgeable and pasionate about what they do and love.
This is amazing to see!! I would like to say. Next time you tune, if you have the time, tune with the throttle at intervals of 5% so you can tune light throttle advances. Its super important in terms of making sure you're not rich or miss-firing as it sounds in the video in the lighter throttle responses.
I found the area on Haltech where i can scale the boost based on throttle too. So its even more drivable at partial throttle! Boost by gear is just the first layer it seems
@@RobDahm that’s awesome! When turning the Formula SAE car for my college we were told this and it made a massive impact on performace
@@RobDahm That's gonna be wild once you get it dialed in good... Also you gotta get some sway bars man.
@@RobDahm By gear, by throttle, by speed, got all the options. Amazing tech.
great comment. never thought about that aspect of tuning
That slide recovery was SMOOOOTH.... OK ROB
I think he took some classes after his little rain incident
bro looked like ken block for a sec
@@sebastianperez1138 come on now. More respect please
With all the knowledge Rob and the team are gaining from this project, they're going to end up being legendary RX7 builders.
I think they already are. Atleast under all rotory guys, everybody knows this car. There are other great 4rotors, but not everybody knows them. (Mazzei Formula for example, who is now building a new awesome project)
I'm just gonna point out the elephant in the room. Rob you are an excellent driver, and the 4 rotor has incredible potential
I just think at times too much time is spent on the engine and drivetrain and not enough time has been spent dialing in suspension geometry etc. To get a better feel for the car I think you should detune it to maybe 500-600 and really get it set up at a lower hp so you can get everything feeling good then slowly ramp that power up🔥
Damn its SO nice to see this thing rippin the track and everything is fine. @7:10 is insane how fast it accelerated. Bravo rob
I’m so happy to be able to witness this transformation. Rob you are rollin with the big boys. Amazing clip.
1:26 I could see a flame emanating from the exhaust!
I love how excited you are about any piece of data or anything you discover about how the car acts and how you can make it better! Such an incredible build and I would love to see how fast it is once the suspension is all figured out!
He's excited to take everything he's learning and bring it to other cars he builds like the Indy car 👀
I like the external combustion engine on that first startup.
First words out of my mouth on the intro pull..."Oh my fuck."
Rob...it's happening. It is coming to fruition. It's beautiful, love to see it.
I don't care who's critical your one of the tops in my book. No pro indy car drivers that I know of put in the shop hours to know the build like you do. Your the builder driver tuner the tech mechanic and tuner. You are the man when it comes to these cars and that doesn't even touch your filming and editing footage. You guys wear so many hats and earn every cent. Wtg, thank you for what you bring to the table.
Seeing this makes me even more hyped for Rob Dahm Vs the world
Man, the sound, there is nothing like it, i love it
i'll NEVER get tired of that sound.
this is dope. you're in the ken miles stage now. the car's build works and you're tuning it, tweaking settings and whatnot. honestly thats probably gonna be the most fun. now you get to learn how to optimize the car's traction, torque vectoring, suspension damping, all the things that make it have good handling. its awesome to see the build working all proper now.
OMG the 80 to 120+ pulls are what the Years of Vids where worth. MAD respect Rob and Isiah.
Woooo! She is finally getting taken to the track!
Holy crap!! It feels so good to witness the hard work, I can’t imagine how you and the team have felt, especially driving, it must’ve be next level fun!
Your comments about wanting to be a better racer so you can be a better builder is just amazing. This has been amazing to watch. Keep up the good work.
Rob is the kind of guy that is smart enough to not put music over engine sound.
That is a concept that other youtubers have a hard time understanding.
I feel like I've been waiting for this video for a long time watching the progression on this thing. I bet it just feels awesome to finally be taking it around a circuit after putting in so many hours. Congrats Rob it is a really cool car!
Wow man. That sounds insane Rob. You guys are doing an amazing job. I've been watching for a few years and I'm really proud to see how far you've come. Keep being you buddy 👍
Lol, it's nearly a guarantee that not a single one of the critics could build anything even remotely as involved as this car, and I'm sure it's just to make them feel important. Keep up the great work man, everything is a learning experience, and it's super fun to watch!
Amazing, Rob! Thanks for bringing us along on this journey! Love the fact that you are 100% the builder and driver, and learning and implementing and every possible chance.
I'm really, really glad that you are getting to put this thing through it's paces. You built a beautiful car both aesthetically and mechanically. I'm super happy it's actually getting driven and doing what it was built to do and not just sitting in a garage.
Thinking about making the shifter shorter? So that your hand goes from steering wheel to shifter instead of up up and right. 2:46
Good catch, I agree that probably feels unnatural reaching over-and-up to shift gears.
Your learning curve and passion to better yourself is very apparent @12:00. That is the foundation of being humble and proud at the same time.
Tanner Foust is such an inspiration! It's cool that you got to meet him.
4 rotor sounds unbelievably good!! 🔥🔥🔥
Clean slide, really nice driving Rob!
Can we just acknowledge we are just still scratching the surface of what rob and his monster can do! I get so excited every single time a new video pops up. Wish you had space on the team, shipping and logistics guy with a passion for weird cars too lol.
My favourite rotary after the 787B! Congratulations to Rob, this is the most exciting project I've ever followed and you're blessed with a team who understands your madness! Keep up the amazing content and sharing your journey man!
Im proud of you Rob. This has been quite the journey. Thank you for your wholesome content. Always love seeing your smile.
That sound tho 😍😍😍😍
You are absolutely right Rob. The car is getting better and so are you. As you become a better driver you will help the car by being able to know what it needs to go faster. I was greatfully surprised that it was faster than the Ferrari. It just seemed like the front was pushing so hard. Can't wait to see the car as it improves. Thanks for the video and representing us rotards. Brap on
Awesome Job Rob! It makes me so happy to see you out there enjoying all of your hard work. And the sounds coming out of that thing are out of this world, even through my head phones! Congratulations 🎉
Man what an incredible display. Where are all those people who used to fill these comments with negativity. Amazing build
Would be great to see-hear it out driving alongside the 4 rotor 787b Le Mans car
That would be great
Beta Rob makes a guest appearance, awesome!! 😂😂 Totally should have the Student Driver go against the 3/4 Rotor on This vs That!!
Seeing this man living his once so called dreams, really makes me happy. I have followed in and out since 2011, and you’ve come along way Rob.
robs 4 rotor is like videogame levels of perfect
Can’t wait to see this car with real tires, drag radials are not enough
Needs some A052s or pilot sport cup 2s
Or better yet hoosiers
This is key, drag radials are never going to perform well on a circuit.
I've never felt so fast while sitting still. Just here in my computer chair feeling like I am flying watching the footage from inside the car. You built one hell of a monster Rob.
So excited for you and your team! It looks so good, both cosmetically and performance. Congrats
Desperately curious what that monster will do on a half mile run
We need this
Bruhhh❤
That thing spools up and flies like an F1 car. What a sound!!😯😳😵💫
Rob, it sounds soooo good under load. Hearing it scream down the track goin full tilt is so amazing. Your obsession with doing the way you want has paid off in spades. Congratulations brother.
Rob, thank you so much for taking us all on this journey. As a track day driver myself, I can totally see all the little issues you're having. You're doing it right, build up to the limit. Your car is a masterpiece, flawed sure, but that's the human touch . Build that sob then go for version 2.0! It's what every builder does, live and learn. You're crushing it bro! We're all behind you. Keep going.
There is so much progress over the years, good job guys.
Datalog from monitoring tire temps across width of thread could help with tuning up correct camber too. (understeer could mean it needs increase of front camber?)
And ofcourse as Rob mentioned ARBs(swaybars) would improve handling masivelly too and increased tunability of suspension for tracks.¨
For that power it handles decent. Keep going sky is the limit. 👍
Understeer is from too much body roll from no sway bars. With the massive freaking tires on there and the light weight, camber shouldn't be that big of an issue
@@iceman5117 Yes, for proper track use with corners Swaybars is "must have" part. I ve noticed soo much improvement on my racecar when equiped with much stiffer rollbars than stock before, car now feels really planted in corners with much better feel for weight transfer.
The car sounds amazing over video, I can only imagine how loud that is in person, and it looks like it goes pretty quick!
First thought that hit me though, as I got nervous every time you took your hand off the steering wheel to shift, have ya considered paddle shifters?
My probably overreacting nerves aside, it looks and sounds amazing now, you really do get a different impression of the car now that it has a full body.
I thought he had those carbon shifters on the wheel already? Maybe they got taken off
Am not sure if/how he could use paddle shifters, his gearstick has a strain gauge that cuts ignition (and/or clutch?) when it senses partial pressure, before the shift, so it can smash through gears
I am really happy for you, seeing enjoying that monster of a car you have built. With all the ups and downs in the last couple of years seeing her rip that way makes me smile big time.
Proud of you man! Best part is getting out of there with no damage and a clear understanding of what needs tweaking..
The sound is just phenomenal!
I won’t watch another 4rotor build this is the OG for me you’re so technical and you explain tons, love the vids 👑
This video is a landmark. Congratulations to everyone involved!
The four rotor has to be one of the coolest sounding cars on the planet.
Congrats to you and the whole crew. Years of work out there on track roasting tires and bring smiles to folks faces.
Can’t wait to see what comes next and what you guys pull off with the IndyCar build!
It has been a great follow on this build, And the humble helpful tips on the build really make watching enjoyable as well. Thank you
No matter how many times I hear it, can't get over how good it sounds. Epic build.
I think Joel said it all "I'm proud of you" you have come so far as a driver and builder, and it's all coming out at once. Keep roasting tires and doing bigger and better things!
This is all around amazing I can’t wait for more!!!
That 4 rotor is a fire breathing dragon that sounds like what I expected flying cars to sound like when I was a kid, a fucking rocket ship!! This car is hands down the craziest build on YT and possibly the most well thought out multi purpose car I have ever seen. Kudos sir, you have my respect for life Rob
Rob, be proud of yourself man... that car is a beast and you built it yourself, I think most of your fanbase are proud as hell to see the car doing what it does, the fact that the show matched you up with the car and driver they did speaks volumes... take a step back for a minute and look at what you have created through hard work, endurance and sheer tenacity.
I'm a wheel aligner, wind as much castor on to it as you can get, then give it another turn, -3 to -3.5 neg degrees of camber and 4mm toe out up front and it should grip up bit more, or.... you being a big old nerd could look in to ackerman angle, bump angle, and corner weighting, and you would have a much easier time in the seat, but it looks and sounds like a blast to drive.
A legendary car progression series. One of the best ever. Calculated and incredible. (Love that color too)
I've started watching your videos in the early 2000. It makes me so proud to see how far you and 2 rotor RX7 have gotten. Keep it up bro. Your videos keeps me entertained while I'm out here on the open road😊
I love how you show it driving on track; unlike some other channels that either don't show it at all, show just a little street driving, or maybe a drag race
(Well, i guess sometimes it depends on the build too)
I have been watching for years and I still find this just as interesting as when I found your channel. Amazing follow through
that thing sounds amazing! love the sound inside and outside the car. Pure Passion!
Everything is a number, you'll figure it out Rob and we can't wait to see when you do. Going as in depth into understanding or figuring something out as you do isn't everyones cup of tea but that's genuine passion and where you get the fine tune, of the fine tune from. Loved this clip. From the land of your billet block, NZ ❤️
Your self deprecation, and drive to keep learning, and pushing is what sets you apart from other channels. There are a few out there. But, you are the prime example. So glad this car is not only shaping up... however, the knowledge it is just going to keep getting better keeps me pumped.
Eyes teared up and the goosebumps are real at the first rip in the video. Love the car, love the sound.
Amazing to see all the hard work and long nights culminating into this monster of a car. Can't wait to see more.
I miss the 1 hour uploads this car and Rob deserve it. Such a beautiful thing to get to see, a man with a passion doing amazing things. Can't wait for the next video
After all these years, that was great to see. Great job pal.
The sound of that four rotor at full tilt is sweet music to my ears. Love it!!
Congrats rob, it’s so rad to see this thing tuned and being driven properly ❤
What a great video, thank you!
Yes Rob! Proper driving!
An earnest passion for motoring, and the guts to keep going through growing pains will keep fueling the fire for this rotary beast.
Love your enthusiasm as you swerve into the unknown and untested technology that others have prematurely discarded!
I’ve been watching every video for the past 4 years waiting for this day to come I can’t imagine how you feel and I can’t wait for what’s to come with this beast of a car
Oh the sound. So good!
The sound of your car at full send is.... I never thought there would be something better than a V12 F1 car but here we are, crown the new king 🤴. Also this is the first time I've ever seen a "street" car that actually needs paddle shifters, it seems like taking your hands off the steering wheel to shift is legit dangerous 😳. Just ear therapy 🤯❤😱😍
This car is amazing, I'm so happy to see it on the track!! Great job proving your resolve and bringing your dream to life! I can't wait to see what the future brings for this thing
I legit just laughed and shook my head as it went ripping down the straight the first time. The ultimate show of respect from a car guy IMO. Well done rob, this thing is a dream machine.
This build has been absolutely incredible to see! Good job Rob!
Great to see your car fully clothed and sounding awesome. Well done, and thanks for sharing.
Amazing to see all these years come to this. Good on ya
Seeing this thing fly down the track blew my mind.... amazing work guys!
Really loving the progress you guys have made on this car, awesome to see it in action, can't wait to see the next evolution.
