Halford with Pantera? What could possibly be more metal than this???

    • @jaymzb.1713

Rob Halford singing with Black Sabbath (Butler, Iommi & Ward) is pretty high on the list of most metal. As was King Diamond doing vocals with Metallica.
Now Slayer's Kerry King playing with Pantera, doing Judas Priest's version of Green Manaleshi + Victim Of Changes was seriously metal. This was before Cowboys From Hell when Phil could actually sing.
      Peace

IMO that title belongs to Ronnie James Dio. Rob Halford is great. But Ronnie never proclaimed "Metal is dead", gave up on it for industrial techno, and came back to metal when it started picking up...like Halford did.

He IS quite eccentric. I seen them in 2006 opening for Sabbath at Ozzfest. I was maybe 25 at the time and I remember all of the concert goers just gaping in amazement as Rob and Priest ripped through Electric Eye, Metal God's, Breaking the Law, Screaming for Vengeance, Painkiller, Hell-bent for Leather, Some Heads are gonna Roll, etc. The absolute amazement on their faces and the send off they gave Priest before so rudely chanting Ozzy, Ozzy was one of my favorite concert moments. Combine this with the fact a big thunder cloud rolled over at the same time that Sabbath came out playing Black Sabbath, and it was definitely a metal moment

Instead making sure I got back to my suite safe and totally inebriated 😂🤣 The Cowboys From Hell beat Tampa Bay 14-10 (I think that was the week, as year's blur together), but when I heard about Ohio in like Mar of 04 I was 😭😭 Then Big Vin gone now as well 😔 It's too much for this old, Headbanger 🤘🤘 Hope they're w/Ronnie James, Phil Lynotte and the rest of Heaven's Headbanger's ☝💯

@@a.m8878 Hmm.. just back to 70s Rob .
      And pre Rocka rolla rob...
Rob had blues in it .
He distanced himself over the years from it but he has .
He is born in 1951 and as every metal singer and founder , he took screaming and intention ( considering also the Midlands environemment ) from BLACK MUSIC .
Black people were the ones doing this broken feel and very very hard raspy vocals in 50s ....
I mean they all took from there , there rent any Metal archetype when they started .
In the whiskey woman version , in the middle , Rob sing like james brown..
Running from my soul with budgie
Very Black style of vocals .
Even of course he updated and at 5min its like he s doing the broading into pig squeal before its time
      But to prooves you something in 1992 , with Jeff martin ( racer X ) drums., parish ( fight ) , And Paul gilbert ( Racer x , mr big ) ..
He play the Cover made by Ray charles and popularized by Humble pie .
Talking about Steve marriot as well as an influence Rob perform I no need no doctor , excellent
      He had it still.

@@a.m8878 Dio wasnt necessary deeper than Rob .
Its just Dio had lower harmonics when he sang .
But try to sing even Rainbow in the dark , Children of the sea ..
      In full voice .
A lot of Dio notes are around B4 .
      Its not Low !
      Its High ..
Both were Low tenors , Switching into more Baritonish register around their 50s .
But even then , in normal voice , which is very ambiguous to me where Rob was really its really weird , Rob had a lower more baritonish voice than Dio .
      In 80s for example .
In 90s and 2000s , Dio voice obviously became quite lower more close to baritone register if he was in , even he still could do it in singing , and even half step tuning lower , even the children of sea intro still fuckin hard to sing and high .
Rob is Full voice as well and mixed
But he used Larynx technique for ultra Upper squeal .
The other reason to see that Dio is not necessary deeper than Rob , is Rob singing Dio stuff in 1992 , and he s struggling at times .
Children of the sea , Neon nights ..
      Its not that low .
Dio s technique is extremely deceiving ...
One of that technique is , quite Similar to what Coverdale would do ..
Its really gutty rasp stuff with Open throat singing , which gives that Fat tone , with quite Low harmonics .
David beign baritone its even.more deceiving .
Lady double dealer s deep Purple or come taste the band stuff ( Which is already a foot in Whitesnake in that sense ) even ( on the record , Live it was even higher) lovechild , Lady Luck , Coming homd the fat tone , gutty ballsy tone , it seems accessible , but until you try to sing it this is High ..
Very hard to pull it off .
Halford had always a Great mid , and gritty low register even growl since 70s , even some dont seem to really notice it , or avoid it .
Even he showed more this in 90s .

    • @Nissardpertugiu

@@a.m8878 as far technical , Victim of changes , the Ripper , and Especially Dreamer deicever/deceiver is extremely hard to sing ..
I mean that one is probably ond of hardest .
The Sinner is very hard as well , especially the bridges before the solo where it have " nanana the devil etc.." ( i dont remember the lyrics ) ...
And a lot of others ..
But the 70s stuff is tough to sing , because its not just the around 6 octaves range he had , its , as the music and drums etc... Priest explored a lot of stuff back then , so the dynamic changes , and the diversty of vocals on phrasing , and also through this insane range
      Demand is very very Technical..
It demand a lot of skills .
Dio is very technical too , but ... just different .
I think both are on the same difficulties degree .
