The calmness in Anthony Hopkins' voice is very soothing...I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone be so completely open whilst also being so completely at peace with themselves...that was a wonderful interview, Hopkins has a confidence in the way he speaks that can only come from a total lack of fear. Here is a man who has slayed his demons and walks free of fear.
An only child. Father hated when he played piano = trauma. Introverted yet easy on the eyes. Why? Perfectionism is a sickness. I know. I used to have it. Drove my friends away as they would say I'm a "control freak", that I wanted to steal everyone's power. But it's a result of insecurity and a way of trying to heal wounds to the psyche. Tony picked up the piano again because his father wasn't there to berate him. This is a troubled soul even now, he looks for divinity. He worries what is beyond death. I hope he finds peace before he passes. Sir Anthony Hopkins, thank you for being. Thank you for all the gifts you've created for us. They are part of your legacy and will be forever I should think. When we die, we will be joining billions who have gone before us. So. We should be at peace with it.
Ikr it is like your parents you grow up with them and you don't remember them been young but when you look at pictures of them looking so young you think wow they really look young and very absolutely gorgeous
Thanks for this I haven't seen him looking so young. It's interesting for me watching this as I've seen so little of his work, certainly not Magic. And getting to know something of the bloke.

I'd like to have Anthony Hopkins over for dinner. He's full of fascinating insights and personal history and the way he recounts them is subtly soothing and makes you want to listen to him forever.
I have the movie Magic. Anthony Hopkins, You were great acting in this movie. You are the spark that keeps Hollywood on the move, and you always add spice to the movies. You are fabulous !
The classic Celt self destruction, im glad he didn't succumb to it like Burton and others.what he said about the ego being deadly is absolutely true if it goes unchecked
In “The Lion In Winter”, Hopkins’ first movie, his voice sounded so different than it did in later movies. Hard to believe it’s the same person’s voice.
I've watched a few of Tony's interview and he considers himself not intellectual which kind of makes me laugh as he is one of the most fascinating men to listen too.
Brian Richard Linehan (September 3, 1944 - June 4, 2004) was a Canadian television host from Hamilton, Ontario, best known for his celebrity interviews on the longrunning talk show City Lights.
I agree. Wanted to watch it for a long time but didn’t have much money to spare for the dvd. I found a version on youtube and finally I could watch it. One of my favourite roles from Hopkins. What an excellent actor.
Linehan was a reporter from Canada famous for his brilliance, his insight and the amazing questions he would ask. Martin Short, also from Canada, we rule... does a great impression of him.
here's a man who's been off his rocker for probably most of his life, and has become one the world's most venerated actors. He actually used that "skill" to make it happen like others.
Feeling like everyone else was talking a different language from the age of 4? Always feeling like he was on the outside looking in? Destructive perfectionism? So much here.

@@vintagesoul73911 I guess I'm mixing up things bc I saw him in a film in the 70s where his hair was blondish but it could have been white or grey. He obviously died his hair darker for sotl bc it's dark then at the Oscar's its white. Although sotl was filmed a good amt of time b4 the 92 Oscar's it already was a very long time from its release in feb 91 since an Oscars came after that in 91 all the way til March of 92 . That's an unusually very long run for people to add onto the phenomenon & was all accidental. If it was released in late 1990 it all could have been different. You have such a refined, high-powered gadar. Yes, Brian was gay, and even though he lived with his male partner, he never could bring himself to tell his devout Irish Catholic mother. Doubt that he was fooling her...
When you look at interviews like this where the guest is permitted to talk and is rarely interupted. Now compare that to todays hosts and you realise the difference. Great pity.

Yes you are right
Back when TV was for adults. It's nice that the interviewer stays silent and lets Anthony talk for so long.
He is captivating, transfixing and hypnotizing.. So intelligent, beautifully-spoken with that velvety well-controlled speech and enunciation rhythm

@Nikuper Vlogs, what, about 45? That’s not old, unless you’re 13 years old!
Anthony Hopkins is 40 years old here, but looks 55.
He looks a bit like Benjamin Orr of The Cars here.

great interview by both parties...very enlightening..thanks for uploading.
“Magic” was the best of the dummy-takes-over-the-ventriloquist stories I have seen, and I have seen quite a few, done on TV and movies.

Amen! Love Hopkins. Favorite actor. So much respect for him, that grows with every interview and movie of his I have the pleasure to watch.

He looks exactly like his character Corky in 'Magic' here...
....Now where's that puppet? (EDIT: I see he talks about that film here)
I've always assumed that he didn't "learn ventriloquism" for Magic; Fats' voice was dubbed in postproduction.
Sometimes it is, but when hes doing his act and many other segments in the movie, you can see him speaking without moving his mouth
