"I feel like we're having a bit of a sock return era." Not me knitting socks as I listen to this after spending MONTHS avoiding them. 😂

Hi, Jenny! Love the podcast. It's always a delight to see a new episode. I too am having a sock moment. Which segues into a test knit I did that features knit scallops. The Perfect Pie Socks pattern by Annissa Groe. I'm sure you could attach the scallop to any project that you want as long as the stitch counts add up. The sock pattern is also quite similar to your fancy business socks you're currently knitting. I don't think asking for suggestions is too burdensome, I have found so many great patterns, techniques and tutorials from the comments section. Thank you for sharing your beautiful handmade items, and your great sense of humor. Cheers! 🤗

I'm pretty sure Hitomi Shida's Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible has instructions or a chart on knit scallops! You can borrow the book/ebook from your library to check it out and decide if you want to buy the book!

You are so right about the socks. I haven't knit any in years, and recently cast on a pair, and have yarn lined up for another! Great episode, as usual. You always make me laugh 😊

I don't particularly appreciate working with Mohair, so I started working with Holstgarn 100% alpaca. It looks pretty good as a mohair substitute.

For scallops, Laura Penrose has designed a shawl (currently in testing) with knitted scallops. There are also UA-cam videos on how to knit a scallop edge (I don't know if they are good... I've never tried it!).
And as for the recession, oh boy, it's really tangible in Europe (I'm French)... so when I see designers putting mohair in everyone of their designs, I wonder if we live on the same planet. I'm very happy for them if they can afford it!!! I'm all for a mohair free trend (again, to each their own... I would just love more variety)

The Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible has some scallopy edgings in it. I think they are a bit more lacy than the one you have on your bonnet. They’re lovely, though x. Maybe you could put your pink yarn into a Feels Right Tee by Lily Kate France. She has apretry white sample with a ban dof variegated yarn across the chest.

Love that you are knitting socks again. I always have socks going for when I'm tooo tired to think but want to knit. I ordered wool to knit the Artisane cardigan. Wouldn't it be fun if you knit it too and talked about it ? wink wink : )

I think Tulip by Melody Hoffman just uses short rows for the scalloped hem (full disclosure I haven't bought the pattern hehe) but I think that's how I would try to do a knit scalloped edge on the bonnet

Hawthorne from knitpicks has a dk weight now. I've only used the sock weight and they are quite hardwearing and held up through multiple machine washes and wears. They aren't as soft as usual sock yarn, but it is softer than Kroy Fx in my opinion.
But the sock obsession is real- so many fun patterns and colors to use, plus they are so easy to travel with!

Haha! I haven't made socks for a couple years but I, too, am on the sock train. Also I got out all my old socks that were beyond darning either herel or toes. I cut out the worn part and am knitting in new heels and/or toes from my scrap sock yarns. Kind of fun.

for what its worth, I don't see boucle or any other special effects yarn going out of style any time soon! they are very exciting to new knitters and there aren't even that many patterns for boucle on ravelry at the moment (i know bc i impulse bought Qing Fibres Lunar New Year hand dyed boucle with no project in mind LOL) i think the trend will only grow !

I'm working on the Abril Pullover by Claudia Q from EweKnit Toronto using old stash yarn form Knite Crate. The colour is Bubblegum and I cast it on on my bday so it is my Bubblegum Birthday Sweater lol

Thank you for sharing your mohair feels. I thought I was the only one. Ever since I had to untangle a big mess trying to wind 50g on a swift, I'm over it and can't understand the seeming requisite "held with mohair" obsession. Halos are not worth it IMHO.

Hey! Are you still looking for scarf to knit? Cranking a DROPS boucle yarn on a circular machine (panel mode) gives out a nice result, the edges do not roll in.

I'll join you on your anti-mohair mohair girl campaign. I hate working with it, and I don't wear my items made with mohair because it's so dang messy to wear.

Jenny, I wonder if you would like the look of the bonnet more if you didn’t tie it. You look beautiful in it! Have you heard if your coworker has been wearing the bear bonnet? Sorry that was a bad dad joke.😁😁

I know this sounds gross but, you can also use dryer lint for stuffing. I’m currently knitting up the Sophie shawl. I’ve already made the Sophie scarf, three times. Great pattern! So far, the shawl pattern is just as easy as the scarf. Highly recommend both patterns.

I have never knit with mohair because i think it would irritate my skin. I have used lace weight malabrigo silkpaca and it is very soft and you get a lot of yardage. Maybe hold that with the pink sock yarn and make a camisole...

Hi. For a scalloped edge, you might want to look at traditional Fairisle razorshell lace, e.g. Vair by Gudrun Johnston. The lace pattern i's really straightforward.

Hi! could you please tell me if you got any feedback about the comfortability of the baby bonnet? I'm about to knit a similar one but I don't know what material content of yarn is best to choose so it doesn't irritate the baby's bald head

    • @futurefiber
