  • Over the past few weeks, we have given first doses of the vaccine to more than 2,000 Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) staff who qualify for the vaccine under Phase A1/A2 of Washington state’s estimated timeline for vaccine availability. This is an important first step in the fight to end this pandemic, but we still have a long way to go.
We know many of you have questions about getting the COVID-19 vaccine. We are writing today with an update.
    Vaccine for patients
We are excited to share that we are working around the clock to open a joint SCCA / Fred Hutch COVID-19 vaccine program. We look forward to offering you the vaccine at that location as soon you qualify based on the state’s timeline. Due to the phased approach, not everyone will be vaccinated right away.
We are working on our process for notifying patients when they will be eligible for the vaccine. We will communicate via email and our COVID-19 vaccine website when we know more. We will also post specific guidance for people with cancer, which is currently being developed by a national team of experts, including members of SCCA.

They were doing clinical trials on the coronavirus vaccines 10 months ago in Seattle, Washington. One woman in her 40s was the first to get it.
