I know Mike and Peggy too I live in Alton south of grafton that American flag is the largest flown on the Mississippi at the loading dock also a great place to eat and watch the River traffic.
Dream to do the loop one day. Two or three more years before I can retire and do it with my lovely first mate of 37 years. So I enjoy living vicariously through your post. Safe Journey!🙏
What a nice comment. I hope you can travel on a boat when you retire. If you can, try not to do the loop in just one year. You can see more, be more relaxed and enjoy the trip more if you take your time. Even storing the boat over winter and picking up the following year is always an option. There are so many places to visit and we find staying for 3 nights really gives you a better feel for each town.
@@FreebirdonTheGreatLoop sound advice and exactly what we are planning on. In Oklahoma now just out of the Port of Catoosa. We could start from here which is insane.
@@RLoose9494 We are not familiar with the rivers in that part of the country. What river are you on and what route would you take to get to the typical loop?
Good question. The barge captains slow down in turns and use the engines to turn. In tight corners they often use reverse in one engine to turn the barge. Thanks for watching. 🛥

We ate there and loved the catfish bites!
Yes the engine in back of train pushes
Thanks for confirming.
2:00 the GoldenEagle ferry🎉
Thanks for identifying the ferry and for watching. Do you live in that area?

Thank you so much for writing! It is nice to hear you are enjoying our travels.

Made it through travel day 13 with no bad luck! Lots to see along the Illinois River.
There sure is!😁
Those are both empty coal trains headed back to the mines, probably in Wyoming. The power plants are certainly somewhere in the South or Southeast.
Interesting...Thanks for the comment!
The coal trains can have over 100 cars
Seems like we wait for long trains every time we pass by this area. Thanks for watching! 🛥
How do those barges turn corners when they are that big?
