One watches these films and it's as plain as day what led to Mike's deterioration as a fighter.
Gone were the head movement and the combinations , as this video points out and shows. Tyson was VERY hard to hit at his best. He put his punches together very well and could not only counter punch but also used that to set up his finishers. But watch him against Douglas and every fight after that.
The speed was still there but there's no head movement or any real boxing at all. No footwork, no working angles, no combinations, rare uppercuts...He's constantly loading up for a home run punch and this trend continued for a while until the end of his career. He was a GREAT boxer for a good while, maybe the best heavyweight POWER boxer I've ever seen - fast, came at you with wild angles and combos and was incredibly hard to hit - but he just stopped doing the things that made him so good.
