Quite a few sellers aren't quite sure of the specs of the radios they're selling. Baofeng isn't helping the situation when they brand the radio (both the front sticker and the label inside the battery compartment) with whatever the distributor wants. And you may be buying a radio from a retailer who bought it from a distributor. These modern Baofeng radios with the full-color screens generally have 2 different types of RF final stage, depending on the model. The "5W" models use the H0606E driver which is rated at 6W max. The "high power" models use the HTL7G06S011P driver which is rated for 11W max. BTW, pressing and holding the [8] key is usually a shortcut to change the power level, instead of needing to go into the menus. Some models with programmable side key(s) also let you assign Tx power as one of the side key functions.
New to these radios. Bought the Tidradio H8 Gen 2 also have the Baufeng AR-5RM. Have them set to hearing my local police dispatch . Notice that the TIdradio picks up more of the dispatch calls than my Baufeng. Both set to high Baufeng skips some calls. Why is that? Do I have a bad Baufeng radio?
What is the recieve sensitivity like? No one really talks about that aspect on radios. How well it recieves. I do 99% listening so to me thats a huge for me.
Ape this message is regarding learning the AARL technician and general books. I am the reading every page of both books studying old school, and testing for both exams on June 1st at the hamfest in Marietta, GA.(Atanta suburb). I finished the technician manual and am in chapter 4 of the general manual now. Burned up 3 pens and 66 pages of notes so far. Probably will have 100+ pages of notes when Im done. Made flashcards too. If you are interested I will share my study techniques to encourage others to deeply dive into this material. To learn it, understand it, and be able to apply it in their radio journey. I did not want to just memorize the Q and A "cheat sheets" and get my general license. Where is the learning in that? You seem to be ine of the best on teaching new people like me. You and Dave Casler. I intend on watching every single one of his videos. Keep up the good work. Thank you. -Dan
@TheSmokinApe will do Ape. The books tell you to learn all words in italics. Only about 1/3 of the words in italics are actually on the test. There is easily 4 times more information in these books that is on the test. I am also making so.e diagrams and actually working out the math problems without memorizing the answers. In many questions the answer given is "D, all of the above choices are correct". I write down all the answers. I am writing out, by hand the questions and answers to all 450 questions in both books. These books are excellent!!! Many say you don't need this much info on the how and why to get on the air. I disagree. I'm not gonna bet opinionated about this though, too many hams are way to opinionated -reminds me a lot of the gun culture! It's all good. I seek people like you and Dave. The hobby deserves deep learning, education, and dedication. I also bought the huge ARRL Antenna book and will read most of that too. I am planning a full wave 80 meter horizontal delta loop. Not sure of I told you I bought my first radio, with all the Yaesu extras. All used. The Yaesu FT-1000MP mark V. Will send you much data on my notes, study habits, flashcards, and my test scores. I will have had the books for 22 days before I take the test! But studying about 5 hours a day (OK I'm a little intesnse) I'm a homesteader who gardens. Have orchard, chickens, rabbits, bees, etc. I teach homesteading for free and do many old time types of things our grandfather's used to do. I am just a novice at ham, brand new, so not trying be an expert. I'm a loner who won't be on UA-cam, but I learn all the time. Just wanting to share some old school study habits (I invented nothing) but I believe there is a lot better way than memorizing the Q and A. The bands deserve better. The hobby deserves better. Thanks for the heads-up on the RF output problems. If they can't even get close to the correct power output my thought is, "I wonder what else they can't get right?" And I don't need 10 Watts of UHF nect to my head in any event. I have a few Baofeng's, TYT's, and Quansheng's that I picked up to use as loaners, but I've gone through each of them to make sure they work properly. They took some time. One of the Baofeng's failed to meet the harmonic specs without a lot of work, so now I just use it as a weather and broadcast FM receiver. But now that I have those 5 loaner HT's working correctly I've reached the point where if an HT doesn't meet all the specs out of the box for a reviewer I just pass on them. I've already put enough time into ensuring the cheap HT's work properly to have just gone ahead and bought a couple of good Japanese ones. SDR HT's are interesting, but not 'that' interesting.
interesting. ?? if that power is true yo got the 8W version . I got a 8w version of the famous UV-5R and it's clean but around 7 W tested. so looks like the PLUS is extra power? so many Baofeng now. I have tested a lot of them. they all over the place. some low on power some real bad on harmonics some pretty good some ok . I bet if I buy same one and test it I get different results. the China radios just like that . JIM W6LG got a 2 pack and both tested different . same HT in same package. may be different HT but still China ones . wounder if the PLUS model includes the special tool ? on my UV-5R the nut on the SMA comes loose from swapping antenna . the special tool to tighten the nut is pull the volume knob off and put it on antenna SMA and tighten . then put volume knob back on. the volume knob is the special tool. so many HAMS do not know that and use outher tools to tighten that nut. LOL not in the manual either . 73's
If the power meter has a rf stripline coupler, it is possible that harmonics can fool the detectors into thinking it has higher power. Looking with a Spectrum Analyser will confirm whether the power is accurate.
It's a tri band and 8 watts. Like all Bfengs it depends on where you buy it to get different power ratings. Basically manufacturing consistency is poor

I honestly feel that when you are given a product for free or to review for free there’s no way a real honest review can be had. My opinion of course…. I turn down vendors all the time, because I know their product is junk. I have a long line of upset vendors in my wake for being honest about what they are selling. While I would agree that most Ham Tubers unbox and push crap on their views, I am not one of them and it's a little offensive for you to assume that. The graphic displayed at 0:56 was for a 5G Plus GMRS radio, the radio tested was a 5RM Plus Amateur Radio.
I bought a 5RM a couple of weeks ago and it's rated at 10 watts. I don't know what the difference is.

Hello boss, I think that is 5RM and not 5G(i think UV5G is rated on the 5 watts limit) and 5RHM/5RH/5RM is advertised at 10 watts.

Yes, the specs he showed are for the UV-5G Plus, not the UV-5RM. Basically this video should be redone using the correct spec sheet.
