This copy of Rembrandts selfportrait is painted in several sessions, with a total time of about 7-8 hours. The two sessions shown in the video where about 3h each. In the first session I outlined the head and darkened the background. In the second session I made a fast underpainting for the following sessions. Before starting with the session you can see in the video, I underpainted the skintones with lighter colour on the darker. If you try this, please give the paint enough time to dry. You can do one more or less sessions if you want. You can also try to finish the painting in one session but you will miss a lot of effects in it. Sometimes you bring some paint onto the canvas, sometimes you scrap it of to let the underpaint show through.
I use only pigments and mediums from the 17th century, the oilcolour and the mediums are all selfmade.
The ground is a double coated oilground, thick applied with the paletteknife. As paintmedium I only use the ingredients, analysts found in Rembrandts paintings.
    Hope you enjoy the video.

Beautiful indeed, especially the collar of Rembrandt's uniform is so beautifully rendered

Great! The amazing thing is that the original Rembrant that this is a study of is barely bigger than an outstretched hand, only about 6x8 inches.

Thanks for sharing this video. May I know what is the orange-ish paint or pigment you used for the first layer of Rembrandts' outfit? Thanks.

you are a viking; a very great king of painting; a painter like he no longer exists. for this reason, you have no comment : our contemporaries do not understand anything about painting; they do not have time ...

You are very romantic person. Think and do like old master. I like the way you think and paint. Great.

Absolutely nothing like the original or the looseness in which Rembrandt painted it

Question. How will you ever reflect a Baroque spirit when you listen to this crap music? In any case, it won't work like that.
