Wow pre-orders closed already! By the way finally getting that BridgeCom repeater I won from you on black Friday in 2019 programmed, up and running. Took me long enough! HAHA
Jason, I like the rig and have oedered one. I prefer the higher power as a reserve if my signal begins to fade with 10 watts. I normally use an FT-991 on low power but this would lighten the load and make it a bit more portable. K6PFG.
You can use the bluetooth with an Android tablet. I have the the FX-4C, and just got the FX4CR. I typically use this "compact" rig on 5W CW. I've used the FX-4C for field day as well as several POTA activations. Very rugged package.
Hi Jason, my very COMPACT FX-4CR is a perfect addition to my county EOC EMCOMM stable, IC-7300, IC-705, +. As an early model SCR Xceiver it is in post-production development and Yu is extremely responsive. The 60M band xmit bandwidth is not for the USA and Yu promised me in the next firmware update it will be. Right out of its own hardcase blackbox, last Thursday, I put it on a battery and on my CHA EMCOMM PORTABLE III with no tuner and got on a west coast net 80M. Easy to operate and still lots to learn. I love it!!!
Just got my FX-4CR yesterday and set it up today. I was tuning around to get a feel for it and heard a CQ on 40M. It was during the day and he was running 400W and was about a 58. I gave him a call and he immediately came back to me (SSB) with a 57 report. He said it sounded a little over-driven, but once I moved the mic off my tonsils, he said the audio was great. So far, I am really happy with it and plan to do some ?OTA activations with it. "Compact". Jack, W8TEE
This COMPACT radio looks pretty cool and intrigues me the more I learn about it. Did not realize it would go up to 20w and was already set up with a sound card. Very cool!
I pre-ordered my FX-4CR back in September and got it lat February. I've only recently got on the air with it last weekend and made a voice contact to Puerto Rico from Kalifornia with an EFHW on my back porch. Great little radio. The early production models have some minor spurious emissions issues, but the manufacturer knows this and is sending replacement boards. He said he would send out the boards (on his dime) once the PCBs are finished. I've emailed him several times and he's a stand-up guy, very responsive, and seems to take pride in his work. It is really well built, and runs like a champ. I don't have any android devices, so I haven't tried the Bluetooth connection yet. The speaker is OK, but I didn't have huge expectations given the speaker size. A pair of headphones solves a lot of those issues. This radio for sure checks a lot of boxes. I would recommend anyone to get one. Even if you only do QRP, the extra $$ for more power seems worth it to me. But... That's really a personal preference. I would totally recommend this radio.
COMPACT- I bought the FX-4C last year, very nice little radio works great on SSB 20m. I was so impressed with the one I have I ordered the new FX-4-CR it on it way. Can’t wait to take it out on a POTA activation.
Just got the nice COMPACT X6100 and now this comes out?? Did not know about the FX-4C. Always wanted something this small to make a dedicated pelican case digital go box with a Pi and fl digi.

Received my incredibly COMPACT FX-4CR last week, and I've been using it for SSB, Winlink (with Vara HF) and FT8 with WSJT-X. I am having an RFI issue with the higher bands with the COM Port vanishing on thin air, but nothing proper ferrites can solve. Will be doing a proper SOTA/POTA review, so keep an eye on that. You'll definitely enjoy that little radio. In my case, I finally have a proper EDC All modes all bands Communications Go Kit with this radio, the Yaesu FT-70D and the Surface Go 3. Everything weights less about 5 lbs, including the battery. 73 de Luis, HB9HJU Amateur Radio Outdoors
Looking forward to your review. If you have an Android device, you don't even need to bring the computer along for FT8 portable ops. The FT8CN Android app works great over Bluetooth with the FX-4CR!
The FX-4CR is a great little COMPACT rig. I've had mine for a few weeks now and it performs great. Full CAT control using Bluetooth with the FT8CN Android app. I made dozens of FT8 contacts in a short period of time using the FT8CN app on my phone, including DX to Germany, Spain, Mexico, and Alaska from my Florida QTH. Outstanding portable rig! 73, KW4TIM
Well done Jason. This compact radio is on my list. I would definitely go for the 20 watt FX-4CR version as I like it to have some power. Unfortunately it's sold out right now.
As I only have a compact FT818 running 6W max, my next radio should have a little more juice, so the 20W would be my choice, assuming it still has pretty low draw on the battery. Speaking of battery, do either have internal batteries?
These two radios are so COMPACT. I'm going to really have to take a look at the FX-4CR. It checks a lot of boxes for what I'm looking for in a compact HF/6M QRP transceiver. Thanks for sharing!
20 watts for me. 20 watts has done well for me with my g-9 when on a POTA expedition. Size and weight perfect for hikes. I am intrigued and fighting my impulse to order immediately. Web page says it is sold out. Compact.
I have been doing HF with an iC703+,RM Italy Amp, LDG impedance matchers, and Heil PRAS. I was thinking of a 1k desktop rig. Other than the cost, Ice Storm URI taught me the advantages of QRP, or a QRP rig with off board amplification: 1. In battery power OP's, QRP rigs tend to sip power on standby. Plus, from life: 2. If a part of the above system goes out, I only have to change out that component, not the whole thing. 3. I have a hunch Y or I will be coming up with a new mobile rig. Y has the new dual band rig with that big knob. I is dc'ing some low end HF rigs
Compact.. I like the Bluetooth idea as well as the 20watt. As much as the built in sound card. I enjoy my 2nd hand mchf, and think this would be a great second setup.
No built in turner, but I've been using my FX-4CR with a Gabil GRA-7350 vertical without a tuner on 10m FT8 and have made DX contacts in Europe from my Florida QTH.
Concerning the COMPACT radio, the pre-ordered ones, they had to be sent back, or you were given instructions on having to mod it to remove spurious emissions, I purchased one as the order portal was reopened on 2.23.23 and still not received it yet, getting concerned. 73s. Tony
COMPACT is what I need for a backup radio for my motorcycle ECOM portable go-bag. The main radio is a FT-857D as I put a premium on 100W shack in the box ECOM radios. However, I mostly operate 10W SSB phone, but I realize another S-unit of TX can make the difference. Especially at the bottom of the solar cycle. 20W is my minimum for ECOM. Bluetooth is a great feature for pairing my radio and phone.
Interesting COMPACT radio, what is most fascinating is that it is made by one guy, or a small company, and it is quite comparable to what the main producers offer for 3x the price. Hopefully in a few years more nice and affordable equipment will be coming from China, so the big names will have to adapt and lower their insane prices.
I was looking for a compact new rig, so I ordered one of these on March 7th. I haven't heard anything from Yu since the original order, but I'm hoping to see it either this week or next week. If I don't see anything soon I'll shoot him an email and see what the story is. Either way I'm excited for it!
@@KW4TIM Thanks for the info! I talked to him yesterday and he said he's doing some modifications to the radios so it'll be a little while. That's okay though. I'd rather be patient and have a radio that works correctly lol
Compact. Hi Jason, missed your earlier review, looks like an interesting radio, particularly the 20 watt one. Do you know if he is going to do an amplifier for this series of radios? Thanks 73 Jim M7BXT
It looks like a nice compact unit for many outdoor activities. I like the idea of the higher powered one, assuming that current draw is very close to the same at low power as the low power unit. You can always turn down a higher powered radio (well usually) but with out an amp, you cant turn a low power rig up if you need a little more signal.
I wonder how hot the COMPACT CR model would be at 20W? I know when i had my X5105, it got pretty toasty. I’d leaning towards the L model. But would it be better longevity to run the L at its max power (5W) or get a CR and let it run at reduced power? Hmmmm…
This is before the vid goes public. How about heat production? Will it play nice with my RM Italy Amp. Will the internal sound card play nice with Winlink?
I would prefer the FX4CR version due to its additional wattage and its compact size. It would be a nice POTA rig to just carry in the truck for "spur of the moment" activations on a road trip.

pretty cool… I think the 20w version would be my preference. it’s very COMPACT which is another preference for me. if you bought something else, you may still need to buy a separate sound card, this has all that built in.
Nice compact design. I have a G90 that I love, especially for use on POTA. I think I have watched all the You Tube videos on the FX4CR and got the bug. I ordered on from BG2FX and was pleased that he acknowledged my order and thanked me for it. Told me it would ship no later than the first of July. I want to use this in my shack and also on POTA, especially for FT8. I am anxiously waiting for delivery. I'm subscriber to your channel and look forward to new videos. pretty cool… I think the 20w version would be my preference. it’s very COMPACT which is another preference for me. if you bought something else, you may still need to buy a separate sound card, this has all that built in.
Keep up the good work. 73, Norm, KD9HAV
Hi, I'm new to ham and can't make up my mind between the yaesu vx-6r and ft 70dr. Anything you could tell me would be appreciated. Thanks c
Compact. Honestly Jason, what is your assessment on the quality/durability of these radios. I’m looking for a quality/inexpensive qrp radio for SOTA/POTA/emergency’s. Thanks for your work. I enjoy your content.
looks like a nice compact radio for emergency (ares, races) or fun (pota, sota) use.
definitely want to see someone wring one out
Compact. 20w in a fat “pack of playing cards”? Definitely a worthy contender for light-weight QRP FT8 and has my vote.
Yep
Compact 20 watts. I'd like to get one for ft8 portable, looks fun😊
would want the 20w version since it might be useful on low propagation days...

Thanks for watching
Very compact, think I would go with the 20w model, although I do like the look of the 5w one.
Me too
COMPACT I'd prefer the higher power, with Bluetooth FX-4CR. But, for my next QRP radio, I have been considering the X6100.
Compact: I wanted to do a pre-order a while back for this. but I got the x6100. I still want one. I've got a trUsdx kit on the way though.
That's a nice "compact' radio. I think I'd be interested in the 4CR model.
Will you be at the Hamvention?
Compact! Very nice looking radio and the updates to it make it look very interesting. I am currently using a x6100 and a IC-705 and am extremely happy with both. As much as another radio would be fun I'll hold off for now. Will be paying attention to see it in operation. 73 AC9DJ
It would be good, If those two Compact Radios were one. The 15-20 Watt Output of the FX-4CR with the ATU of the FX-4L and an internal battery.
Wow this radio is COMPACT. I would take the 10w as that's my max limit as being a foundation licence. Nice looking radio and screen too.
Great video 😊
Motters M7TRS 73 👍🏻
Nice and compact. Waiting on mine to arrive.
Got mine last week
Interesting for such a small form factor. Compact,
Because of this video I ordered the compact FX-4CR! See what I did there? Thank you for another great video.

Nice, simple and Compact.
Never heard of these radios. I’d prefer the FX4CR,very cool! “compact”
Looks cool! Who wouldn’t want a compact radio? 73 de K2CJB
Right!
Nice COMPACT radio... I think the 20watt with BT would be the way to fly.

I would use a COMPAC radio for backpacking. 20 watts is perfect.
Very cool little compact QRP rig! I think I would rather have the 20w model with bluetooth.
So as far as COMPACT QRP radios go, how does this compare to the X6100 or FT817?
That is very cool, I just got my ticket finally three days ago. I am going to start studying for my general so I can play with HF, I plan on buying my first rig after I get done with my general.

10m is really popping right now. The FX-4CR does great on 10m both SSB and FT8. You have 10m privileges with a technician license.
I definitely will be checking that out but Im still making it my goal to obtain all three classes this year, then train for cw to play with 10m. Thank you again.

COMPACT !, It seems like a nice radio , Looks like it has potential, How is it with heat on digital modes ? I know some of these compact radios tend to get hot running ft8
I've been using my FX-4CR for FT8 using the FT8CN Android app via Bluetooth. The rig is a little warm to the touch, but not excessive. No issues so far and I've had mine for several weeks.
Compact do you know what it has for voice memory or CW Memories?
I don't know but I can check.
It does not have voice or CW memories.
I have wanted one for a while..... unfortunately I don't have enough cashflow for more radios atm. I'll have to play with what I have for the moment.
