- Q&A with Alexander Skarsgard of BIG LITTLE LIES. Moderated by Jenelle Riley, Variety.
In the tranquil seaside town of Monterey, California, nothing is quite as it seems. Doting moms, successful husbands, adorable children, beautiful homes: What lies will be told to keep their perfect worlds from unraveling?
Told through the eyes of three mothers - Madeline, Celeste and Jane - Big Little Lies paints a picture of a town fueled by rumors and divided into the haves and have-nots, exposing the conflicts, secrets and betrayals that compromise relationships between husbands and wives, parents and children, and friends and neighbors.
Based on the New York Times number-one bestseller of the same name by Liane Moriarty, this seven-part limited series is a subversive, darkly comedic drama that weaves a tale of murder and mischief as it explores society’s myth of perfection and the contradictions that exist beneath our idealized façade of marriage, sex, parenting and friendship.
Directed by Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyers Club, for which he received an editing Oscar nomination; Wild; Demolition), Big Little Lies is written for television and created by David E. Kelley (seven-time Emmy winner for Picket Fences, LA Law, The Practice and Ally McBeal; Goliath).
The stellar cast includes Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, Alexander Skarsgård, Adam Scott, James Tupper, Jeffrey Nordling, Santiago Cabrera, P.J. Byrne and Virginia Kull.
Executive produced by Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, David E. Kelley, Bruna Papandrea (Gone Girl; Wild; the Oscar nominee Milk), Per Saari (Rabbit Hole, The Family Fang, Monte Carlo), Jean-Marc Vallée, Nathan Ross (Dallas Buyers Club, Wild, Demolition) and Gregg Fienberg (four-time Emmy-nominee; HBO’s True Blood and Deadwood), and produced by Barbara A. Hall (Ray, Milk) and Liane Moriarty, Big Little Lies is a Pacific Standard/Blossom Films/David E. Kelley Productions production for HBO Films. - Розваги
I am struck by Alex' openness, self-reflection and humanity as well as his genius as an actor. He is extremely self-possessed, and yet does not take himself too seriously. What a special man!
His ''humanity''? Wtf does that even mean exactly?
The lady doing the interview is good at her job.
@Amy Berkowitz +1
I love her tunic shirt. I need that in every color.
Yes she is. She is always very good and confident with these famous actors.
Absolutely. It has to be hard interiewing him without turning into a giggly puddle, and she does really well!
Just sickening how talented and handsome he is. And Jenelle you are the best interviewer of actors, hands down.
What a delightful man and interviewer!!!!!💋💋💋💋💋💋💋
I've viewed all of the Jenelle Riley interviews available online. She is amazing and her style refreshing. SAG-AFTRA, create more Riley content. Preferably with Skarsgard
Big time agree!!! I was so happy to see that she was the one doing this interview.
Don't know who she is, but definitely one of the best interviewers around. Didn't make it about her, allowed him his space to talk and yet there was a nice flow and continuity to it all. Great job.
Alexander Skarsgard seems to have such a great, deadpan sense of humor. He’s so pretty😂but his personality is so endearing. Also this interviewer, who’s name is Riley I think? She is such a great interviewer. So easygoing, relaxed, and personable, with a great sense of humor; and she asks really good questions. But most importantly, SHE REALLY LISTENS TO THE ANSWERS, AND ASKS GOOD FOLLOW UPS, INSTEAD OF TALKING OVER THE GUEST (hate it when they do that). She’s completely engaged too. Always enjoy her interviews.
how come there is no comments this is fricking Alexander skarsgard, he so hot
Orville Shepherd: I kinda wondered that too. It's curious. He's almost too good to be true. Personally I really love Virgo men. He's a great example: funny, sexy, level-headed and super intelligent. With...a slight judgmental attitude that can be in a good form --decisive and innovative and in a bad form --hypercritical and cruel.
kisslena we was early that's why no one was here as yet and yes I agree. he is also the best looking between him and his brothers.
@@kisslena You nailed the Virgo man to a tee here. Well articulated and described.
he is always so pleasantly funny on interviews... i just can't get enough.
I must say I love his dad's approach to bringing up kids. Alex is a great actor and a fantastically down to Earth person, good to listen to!
Alexander Skarsgård is such a good actor that I enjoy anything he does, even Perry on Big Little Lies (he's the only reason I watched it). It's fun to see an interview like this where I get the chance to see his funny, playful, even goofy personality.
Nancy Johnson me too, I wouldn't have even considered watching Big Little Lies if he hadn't been in it. I'm so glad I did because that show was incredible. He's so good.
Best interview with Alex I've seen. I watched it because Janelle is the best. Other interviewers just don't bring out the best in the actor!
This is such an amazing interview that I have never seen with Alexander. Other interviews he had like hum... ‘let him talk’, and interviewers didn’t study that much about his works or somthing, but this one is very nice and I can see that she prepared a lot for it. Great job.
The interviewer did a great job if going along with his jokes! 👍
Big Little Lies was by far the best dramatisation of real life in that it didn’t feel dramatic at all. It was truly emotional and amazing.
I do not watch shows like this and I watched one UA-cam clip and had to see more. Brilliant acting, writing and storytelling; felt totally natural.
He’s so down to earth. Love it 💖
I wish they would have talked a bit more about True Blood. I know he was there for Big Little Lies but his character of Eric Northman was amazing. He is so good in everything he does.
Loves me some Alexander Skarsgard.
Alexander is EXTREMELY ATTRACTIVE & well spoken!!! And he also has an incredibly FANTASTIC sense of humour lmaoooooo I'M SO IN LOVE
Really enjoyed this interview!
Me too
Handsome.Tall.Nice.Cute.Sexy.Smart.Charming.Warm.Funny...Talented...
Not enough those words for him!!
"did you have to take survival jobs?" He's Stellan Skarsgards son. No need for survival jobs, trrust me.
Yeah With Stellan being worth almost 40m$ i think he was ok
I’m glad he said he still worked and saved. Shows they weren’t spoiled as kids which can be so easy.
I love hearing actors talk about acting, so much passion. I've loved him for years now and I'm glad he's doing so well. What a treat this little insight into his brain was!
Somehow i feel that one day he s going to get an oscar.
Let’s hope 🤞🏻
So good to watch a good interviewer and a humble actor and finally amazing questions about everything!!!!!
Love his sense of humor.
Finally a good interview with incredible #AlexanderSkarsgard
Great interview. Nice to see him a little shy at the beginning. I obviously discovered him in True Blood and then I watched his previous work, including Generation Kill (which is a great show). I prefer him in the more "indie" productions where he can show he can really act. His appeareance is distracting but he is really a good actor. By the way, before discovering him, I was (am) a great admirer of his father. I discovered Stellan Sk. in Breaking the Waves and then I saw Insomnia (the original one not the copycat version) and he is great in it. And please watch him "In order of disappearance".
You should watch his Swedish stuff
Amazing serie with a wonderful cast !!!
Isn't he the most integer, realistic and funny person - apart from being an amazing actor!
Skarsgard would get my vote.
Yas! Alex definitely needs to get nominated for an Emmy for this role
"I'm surprised they haven't cast you in a heroic role yet"
: cries in Tarzan :
ashley sterling ..... I know right. First thing I thought of & he brought it up too.
Just watched the Legend of Tarzan. He is good in shape and everything but i think he kinda failed in acting. Idk why but i felt like he needed smth to put into his role that i cannot explain. I wasn't satisfied with his acting in LoT. But Perry, man that's smth else. He definetly grew from Tarzan to Perry.
Just someone stop this human from being so humble and gracious. I don’t want to have a crush 😩
Ship, sailed!
❤️🍀♾🙏🤣Love him - the story helps you understand relationships and the balance of what is needed to have the love of a lifetime- a true soulmate- balance ☯️
I've been waiting for this!! One of my favorite actors. Also could you have gotten this man a bigger chair.
lol
Alex you are incredible, excellent actor, I study theater too and I like to learn with telentous artists.
Great interview, it's so wonderful to hear about Alex talk about so many projects. Thanks for posting and loved the portraits as well!
He is an absolutely amazing person with a good sense of humour) His roles are so different and it is cool. I actually like the Mute movie, intense emotions in a cyberpunk reality.
Didn't initially find him attractive until he said he knows how to make a macchiato. I'm not sure my priorities are in order....
Good interview! Alex is a funny and charming guy.
Such a great conversation. Thank you very much! Alexander seems so relaxed and comfortable and witty as always).
I can see he is a internally good person!
I want to see him more on TV or Movie.
Why do I love how he says "anything" at 9:34. Lovely!
Congrats to Jenelle Riley. Great interview. Best I've seen so far.
I detested the character Perry. I mean, what was to like about him? However I loved, I mean LOVED, how he played Perry. Because he played him very true to life. Very honest portrayal. Which one also must credit the incredible writing. But his acting choices were extraordinary, brave even, as he made that character utterly terrifying. The angles he took him in. His rawness and fearlessness in the portrayal. How he used subtext and subtlety, not just physicality and physical menacing and violence, to show the true face of the character’s monster, just below the pretty surface of his appearance and outward image. And when I watched that scene and episode (which was way before seeing this interview) with the psychiatrist I actually did think he was manipulating her. The “good father” bit was only because of nepotism and narcissism as they were his male prodigy. He was actually incapable of authentic love as a healthy psyche would know it to be. I saw Perry as a psychosexual sociopath and narcissist, who was completely empty and devoid of an authentic, genuine “self” or inward identity. Everything was just an act, a mask; except when he was using abuse and manipulation to maintain control and possession of Celeste, and the abuse turned him on sexually. Perhaps I saw it this way because I am a survivor of married domestic violence and abuse at the hands of a narcissistic sociopath; and unfortunately, I recognized that character all to well, and knew exactly what that character was all about. Himself. When you’ve survived what I have, it’s very clear how he played that character. And just how honest and true to life that performance is. The Emmy he won was well deserved.
God he is sweet...
So damn tall!!!
Mute was SO FREAKING GREAT
Alex and Nicole both deserve Emmy for their performances in Big Little Lies.
D Goley For sure!
D Goley ...... They won! Well derserved. Bravo!
And they won the Sags too
And Golden Globes
He has good taste !
Waiting hopefully to hear Alexander's Emmy nomination announced on Thursday.
He's so funny in this!
Interesting… Alexander said Mute was difficult, since that’s my favorite role of his, he did a brilliant job.
he's so lovely ❤
That movie he talked about playing a mute sounds interesting and difficult. Can't wait to see it. Alex & Nicole both won their emmy's. Well deserved. Bravo!
Great interview very intelligent questions and nice flow :)
I saw the movie “Mute” when it released and I really enjoyed it. Had some other great actors in too...Justin Theroux, Paul Judd, in addition to Alexander.
Love this guy and how special he is as a human being. He is fun and humble.
Hahaha I dig that the 6'4" twin sister Terri ended up pretty much being Meryl Streep.
I could listen to him talking forever
Would like to see Alex on talk shows about Emmy nom. This interview so much fun. Much easier than watching him as Perry.
Great interesting interview
funny guy!
I hope he gets an Emmy nomination for that part!
Ms Riley!!! she did an amazing job! I love her style
She is beutiful!
He's just yummmmy
Yummy indeed. I’m in love 💋💋💋💋💋🔥🔥🔥🔥💋💋💋💋
When the hell was he in england?...i would have travelled...lol
Netflix production. I hope it will be The Witcher :D
my funny man❤️
Poor Alexander. Does he always have to sit that hunched to fit into the frame with people sharing a screen?
Holy shit I own a set of those IKEA coffee cups he's drinking from.
He got his own IKEA cup!
I love these interviews.
I want to marry him
OMFG ALEXANDER MY LOVER
Ha! And they served him coffee in an IKEA cup
So I wasn't the only one who noticed that.
He is so, so pretty lol
You know, I’ll watch the new film with you Alex
, if you watch it with me 😂
Finally watched it 😮 👏🏻👏🏻 It was incredible.
HOT
hawt
He sounds like his father.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💚💚💚💚
Arfff, I wanted to watch Generation Kill and... Boom! Mega spoiler !!!
What spoiler? The him being killed part? They are talking about Big Little Lies there not Generation Kill. Or did I miss another thing? Sorry
