We’ll never get the “pre-Splinter” days back, but in comparison to their recent stuff, I like this one a lot! Let the Bad Times Roll frustrated me w only 6 or 7 truly new tunes. Rise and Fall has only 4 good tracks. Days Gone By was alright. So out of those I like this most.
I am very happy with this album, as you say there are some songs that are completely forgettable but in general it gives me a good feeling and I think I will have it on my playlist. I really love the work of these guys 🔥
I like Supercharged way more than Let The Bad Times Roll. The Fall Guy is the best song they've done in 2 decades. The only song I don't like is Get Some. It sounds like Carry On Wayward Son. The album is much better than I expected and much better than most garbage that is out there today.
i also hated the first single for this album and had low expectations overall, but i liked it more than you did-i give it a solid 6.5/10 or a C- grade. i've found that it's a decent album for a daily commute since it has a consistent sound plus a couple of great tracks, but the general vibe of most of it is just too pop-centric for my offspring preferences and there are too many songs with average, lackluster musicianship. but because i'm a longtime offspring vinyl collector, i did talk myself into buying all the color variants (before i'd actually heard it, of course): black, black widow, blue marble, iceberg, iridescent blue, sapphire, and translucent cobalt. who knows? maybe this album will grow on me; it wouldn't be the first time i changed my mind over time...
Agreed on that for sure. Rage and grace actually had some songs that I have come back to quite a bit like nothingtown, half truism and hammerhead. There’s a few songs like that I can say the same about with supercharged like get some and ok but this is the last time (which I think is a lot better of a melodic pop punk song than make it all right)
I totally agree with you. The first song is horrible and I have no idea why they started with this, mostly to do with the song ruining samples on top of it. Track 2 is much better though and it has some other good songs like Truth in Fiction but it's mostly very forgettable. You mention the production and Bob Rock and I actually think he might have a little too much input and he is even listed as playing on some of the tracks, I am suspicious that he is part of the issue. I really feel like Splinter was their last great sounding record and it sounds huge compared to this. Good, fair review and great shirt by the way :)
Being an Offspring fan the past 20 years for me has basically felt like being stuck in an abusive relationship haha. I've finally learned to not expect much from these guys anymore because I always end up disappointed. There's a few decent tracks on here but like previous albums it feels uninspired and really seems like they're scraping the bottom of the barrel in terms of ideas. I always felt that Offspring were an underrated band and deserved more credit than they got, but albums like this make it more difficult to make the case.
To the commentator's saying the Offspring should do this or that, I think it's important to remember that there are people behind the band. They aren't machines made to cater to your interests. After over thirty years, I'd say they deserve to indulge themselves.
The worst song on this album is "Make It All Right." I don't like "Okay, But This Is the Last Time" either. All the other songs are great to me. This album is the best one since "Slinter." 7.5/10.
I just cant think whatever feelings of rewar they get from putting this album out outweigh the true reward they’d get if they just made a simple punk album. But the younger guys in the band want to express a different kind of instrumental virtuosity, but it’s like name the band something else then. I will say though Paul Stanley once said that the people who made the music that made you happy have a right to try to be happy and if making the same kind of music they use to make is not it then they shouldn’t be obligated, so whatever idk.
Huge offspring fan since 94'. Met Noodles once. Dexter twice. This is the band that made me want to play music. As far as this album goes it is by far their most "Family friendly" album to date. Doesn't swear really except for saying "ass" a couple times on the song 'Get Some." Not that swearing is important or anything. Just sayin'. It doesn't really take on anything really heavy like any of their other albums. This is a bit dissapointing as that was one of the big appeals of the band for me. A few of the songs are a bit poppy such as 'Okay, but this is the last time' 'Looking it out for #1' and 'make it alright'. And I really didn't like them initially. I feel like 'Come to Brazil' really slaps, but thematically should have been released as a single or bonus track and not part of the main album. My favorite tracks include 'Truth in Fiction' which has an Offspring/Bad religion/Pennywise feel, 'Hanging By a Thread' and to a lesser extent, 'Fall Guy' and 'Light it up' which are really fun to listen to, but kinda lack lyrical substance. The Song 'You can't get there from here' is an odd one, but I kinda like it. I almost feel like it could be an Ozzy Osbourne song. Here's the twist for me. After a few listens the whole album grew on me. I like all of it. It's catchy. And it tapped into music appreciation I have outside of just hard fast punk. I can actually relate to 'Okay, but this is the last time'. And I'm surprised that I now even sing along with "Make it alright". (Though I really would prefer them to NOT play it live and play something else instead.) It will never be my favorite Offspring album by any means, but absolutely love having it in my collection. That is my review on it.
it's a mess! a patchwork of ideas and "influences" without cohesion. it seems that only a couple songs were written properly from beginning to end. for most of them they just put on a blender a reused melody, a short fast paced section followed by a pop hook followed by a faux thrash riff put together with a almost eletronic beat and a 'original prankster' vocal somewhere. 'looking out for #1' is a good opener because it represents the album well, unfortunately. and way to much pro tools on the vocals and an artificial sound for the drums. the bass kick sounds like it wasn't played but made in a bad 1990s amateur computer software. also it's only 10 songs (and one of them is kind of a joke song) that barely make half an hour. expectations were low and it still managed to disappoint. let the bad times roll was... less bad, i guess. still had a few cringeworthy moments, but i liked it more
I agree I listened to it in one go, and at the end I felt nothing “needed” to be played again Some of the later songs were alright, but it felt really over-produced, auto tuned… I don’t expect “garage band” feelings of Ignition or Smash, but this felt really massaged in studio. Disappointed, and I have been a fan forever, and pretty much listen to them every day even now
@@Rearmostbean yeah, i'm an old fan too. love ignition, smash and ixnay but i don't expect anything like that from their new releases. since rise and fall it's all been hit or miss. a few great songs and a few embarrassing ones. that said, i always find songs i wanna listen to again in every release. in this one maybe "truth in fiction", but the verses sound too much like "recipe for hate".
@@lazyboy300 for me, I guess I am liking Get Some, that sticks in my mind now So much of the music is low RAW energy with mediocre writing. Feels fake Let the Bad Times Roll was the only good song for me on that album, the venom comes through in his performance, and while the writing is very obviously targeted to the times it was written, it is vague enough I can relate with it in the future. A lot of these songs are heavy handed, limiting interpretation.
Loved the second single. The third one was too Why Don't You Get a Job & Pretty Fly for a White Guy sounding. Anything that is pop should be beaten out of Offspring .

Truth in Fiction is my favourite track, it just rages.
I love it too! I heard it at as a Bad Religion tribute.

Some good songs on here. My fave being Come To Brazil. Tracks 7-10 are the best part of the album
I like Supercharged way more than Let The Bad Times Roll. The Fall Guy is the best song they've done in 2 decades. The only song I don't like is Get Some. It sounds like Carry On Wayward Son. The album is much better than I expected and much better than most garbage that is out there today.

it's a very uneven album, but as far as a latter-day record i think it's quite good
I actually think Bad Times is their worst by far. Rage and Grace is a solid album as is Days Go By. This one is ok. Not great but not terrible either.
Agreed on that for sure. Rage and grace actually had some songs that I have come back to quite a bit like nothingtown, half truism and hammerhead. There’s a few songs like that I can say the same about with supercharged like get some and ok but this is the last time (which I think is a lot better of a melodic pop punk song than make it all right)
I find the album great. Hanging by a thread is maybe one of their best songs ever for me.
Love the album. Alot of americana vibes which was one of my favourite albums growing up.
It's a little week out of the gate but definitely the 2nd half is really good!!
I LOVE the album!
Same here. Reminds me of americana which is very nostalgic for me. Was one of my favourite albums as a kid

Despite a couple of pop songs as usual, there are other amazing ones as the last two songs plus Truth in Fiction.
I think that supercharged is one of their best albums by far

The non singles sre the best tracks Fall guy , hanging by a thread. Etc

Its average but better than their last album Let the bad times roll that was absolute garbage.
Really disapointing album. Theres one or two songs that are "ok" . Dont waste your time and just listen to Ixnay or Smash.
Loved the second single. The third one was too Why Don't You Get a Job & Pretty Fly for a White Guy sounding. Anything that is pop should be beaten out of Offspring .
Very very good album
I’ve only listened to it once but I wasn’t very impressed.
That lead single was really bad. Rise and Fall was the last time I enjoyed the Offspring.
I miss Parada😢
He was definitely a bigger part now that time has passed
sounds like a bit AI generated...
Couldn't agree more
Glad you said, that's the feeling I got right off the bat
I love the MXPX shirt. Best part of the video. Album is awful as the last 5 albums. They should hang it up already
Sounds like a boy band put out a punk rock album.
No thanks
It’s just OK…definitely not as good as Let the good times roll. Way too many poppy songs
No....I didn't like....sorry...
