A+ job for using the same cab sim across all amps, man! Too many comparison videos use different IRs for each amp, which completely changes the nature of the comparison.
Exactly man! Same cab is the way to go.
Great job Amner. I have some of them. It´s amazing how Hybrit still sounds great.
Wow! Another great video and specific to the 800! Sweet! Thank you. 🚀
yay someone that knows how to compare amp sims properly! awesome job man subscribed!
Thanks and welcome😃🤟🏻
Thanks for the demo, very interesting! In the mix, I'd be happy with the JMP 2203 or Hybrit although the latter seems to be a bit too mids-heavy both soloed and in the mix.
Great comparison, well done!
thanks for your demo, really great to hear!
This is awesome. Exactly what I was looking for.
This is just a perfect example of how comparison should be done: fixing other variables. Thank you for the great work!
Nice shootout!! Bias fx 2 is my main sim. The Audio Assault stuff is killer too! The Line 6 Pod Farm J-800 still sounds great!
Thanks man, i missed that pod farm version haha
@@AmnerHunter No worries! It's cool to be exposed to newer ones like you do here.
Very impressed by the Mercuriall, Hybrit and Softube. I was a little disappointed by the Nembrini to be honest. Overall, most in not all of them are very usable in a mix though. Kudos to you for using a pretty damn sweet riff also !
Thanks a lot!
The spark is great, softube is another favorite, poulin and bias were also up there 👍
Pretty cool that the Poulin still holds up.
Great job my friend!
I think my favorites were Caliburn and the Softube Silver. Huge tones. I bought Caliburn a while ago and very glad I did. Kuassa nailed that Marshall sound so well. It's a joy to play through also. HighBrit is another excellent free option. Massive low end and marshall hair.
Reamp has a nice modern sound.
Bias was a little thin and stringy. Nameless just sounds angry and modern, quite different from the others.
Overall any of these can get the job done :)
Great work!
Ps: What about the Neural Fortin Cali? I think that has more of a typical Marshall feel and sound. Picked that one up over the Nameless :)
cheers
Thanks for the opinion man and support! Yes man i missed the cali haha i love that one too.
Agreed. Kuassa amp sim sound very natural
The neural DSP nameless is the fortin nameless marshall which is kind of a jose modded tighter marshall superlead circuit. The second amp in archetype nolly is an actual jcm 800
Yeah man, it has tons of gain, but i used the less gain mode, and yeah i missed the nolly one
Mercurial talk the Best! very easy to blend just like medium rare Steak so juice ! the Kuassa Calibrun very Puncing and have rich sound ..i lov them both...GUd Job Sir!
thanks for leaving your opinion!
Really nice comparison man! I really liked the Softube JMP, and the Neural DSP Fortin Nameless
Thank you for doing this :)
Thanks, Amner. Nice demo of each.
The Mercuriall, man... sounds amazing. Vadim's amps all sound great as well, most of them free or reasonably priced, can't recommendo enough. The Softube sounds like a Plexi.
The Softube Amp in this Test is not a JCM 800 - it IS the Plexi Model :-)
@@Ababelone Indeed it is! LOL!
@@Ababelone It's not a Plexi. It's a JMP 2203 MKII Master Volume, which circuit wise is much the same amp as an early JCM 800 2203 (plate voltages are a bit lower during the JCM 800, which results in a bit less headroom).
Marshall switched to what is called metal face, i.e., a metal control panel just before 1970, so only amps before that are a Plexi. Before that the front panel where the controls are was made of a material similar Plexiglas, so therefore Plexi.
The 1959 Superlead is what most think of when they hear the name Plexi, but in fact the JTM 45, the JTM 45/100, the JTM 50 'Black Flag', the 1992 Superbass, the 1959 Superlead, and the 1986 and 1987 JMP 50 amps are all Plexi amps if made before the change in 1969 -- even early combo amps are technically Plexi too, although most folks would find that hard to fathom.
@@agirotto1 Nah. He's leading you up the garden path lol :D
Great review, I have some of this plugins cheers !
I would like to hear GB/Logic 'Marshall' amp aswell, I'm trying to get a decent tone with it, I tried with Apple's amp cabs and Ignite cabs but I never get the right tone, not even recording everything between -10 and 0 dbs... I detest digital guitars.
Overloud has come up with one now too!
Cool!
I liked the sound of the caliburn the best, most rich sounding, almost 3d like. Lot of good options though, cant really go wrong with any of them
Yes indeed😃🤟🏻
You used the Caliburn in the JCM900 mode for most all that
TH-U bro. Perhaps with the profiled version not the modeled version
Yeah man i missed the thu plugin
Favorites: Spark, Fortin nameless and maybe Amped ml800.
Spark almost sounds like it has a very slight phaser effect on it, which I think I don't like...
Confusing that both nembrini mrh810 and reamp studios sound quite poor standalone, but in the mix they sound as good if not better than the ones above...
Thanks a lot for your opinion man!
Glad to hear that the Poulin still hangs with the newer stuff. Was always a favorite in the early 2000's.
Sounds like you had 2 IRs in series on the Nembrini.
ML, STL and NDSP are so scooped by default. Not bad tones at all, just not "the brown sound".
Favorite in this video is Mercuriall Spark, though I know from experience that the Nembrini is awesome sounding if you put a highpass filter on your DI before the amp sim. But also, with just one IR on it at a time.
Thanks for the opinion man, i double checked the nembrini and i didn't have the double ir in series, I don't know what happened.
've just discovered the Mars JFD by Vadim Taranov and it's amazing how well recreates the AFD sound. Check it out, and it's free
Awesome man, gotta look into that amp sim, thanks
This is a nice shootout. Thank you Amner. I am a Caliburn fan. Correct me if I am wrong, but during the Caliburn segment soloed the amp sounds the best with amp 3 selected which is the 900. Yes??
Yes man you are right, thanks 😃🤟🏻
that's correct Greg - I have the Caliburn as well (love it), and B is the JCM800 - C is the JCM900 - other than that, excellent comparison Amner!
@@JohnTurner61 I like the Caliburn for sure. I also have Matchlock, Clarent and Cerberus. All good offerings from Kuassa 😎
@@gregnott7157 yes, I LOVE the Matchlock
I"m really surprised by the JessieM model! Fortin Nameless is just so good though
Did you forget to turn the cab off for the Nembrini?
I thought i did man but i checked and it was off.
Amped ML 800 is the best Jcm 800 simulation!
Not to me but thanks for your opinion
@@AmnerHunter everyone has a better idea of what he played.
I’m with you on this. I’ve done a similar comparison of various JCM800 plugins against a real JCM800 using the same settings and cab IR on both the real amp and the plugins and they all sounded wildly different from the real amp except for one and that was the ML800. That was the only one that actually sounded completely indistinguishable from the real amp to me so I like it the most. Everyone has their own opinion in terms of taste and preference but if we’re talking about the sound & functionality of an actual JCM800, the only one that actually passed the test for me was the ML800. I was able to still dial in identical/near identical tones with other plugins but It took me a bit more work and finessing to get them there.
You either forgot the NaLex J800 or you didn't include it because it doesn't come with a power amp section.
The Fortin Nameless, being the Meshuggah amp, is too modified to compete with any other JCM800 sim. It's more comparable to a Friedman BE-100 in terms of gain.
I really like the Kuassa Caliburn and Vadim Taranov's JessieM X100.
The Vadim one is the best free one out there, it's simple but works great in a mix
Thanks man, yeah i missed the nalex one and btw i used the less gain mode on the nameless, it has a lot more gain than a jcm800 by default
🔥🔥🔥🦅🦅🦅🙏🏽✊🏽🚨🚨🚨
El spark
I was hoping for you to be commenting on which was your favorite 😢
For many years my favorite was the mercuriall spark and the neural dsp fortin nameless
What is your pickup and your audio interface ?
the pickups are duncan blackouts & the interface is an old presonus audiobox usb.
@@AmnerHunter Thank you
Mercuriall is ahead of most of them
Mercuriall Spark sounds the closest to the real deal, but it's still way different
Thanks for the opinion
wait so did I understand you correctly? you're running two takes of the guitar through the same amp sim via a bus? and if so, why in gods name are you doing that? lol
Not sure which one's best but...Nembrini is the worst by far. They even made a version of an SLO that sounds like a fly when the real SLO sounds huge. DSP made recently their version of an SLO that sounds almost identical to the real amp. I'm not sure what the guys at Nembrini are thinking putting something out that is so substandard, knowing what the competition out there is like...
I am disappointed:( None of them sound like my studio Classic which I need to sell this week:(
oh I see, not even close?
Jesus Loves You
bias fx2 sounds like shit. I am gonna to refund mine license.
the free ones sound amazing.
I did not like Bias one either. I bought it about a year ago and got a refund. It sounded much the same to me as the previous version that I got free via disreputable sources lol.
I like the ML Labs stuff I have tried. Tried Softube too, but it annoyed me making me install iLok. I just use Amplitube 5 though. Not because it sounds best, but it is easy due to the stand alone app.
If I am going for tone I use either a Marshall JMP 50 or 2525h into a Freyette Power Station and usually pair that with Two Notes IRs (because they are easy). I do it in DAW so I can add other plugins as needed.
To be honest the sound I get from using real amps is not so different to plugin amps once it goes thru IRs and DAW. There is a clear audible difference, but if I am just practicing or noodling I just fire up the Amplitube 5 app and I have a decent tone ready to go in seconds.
