Great adventure. My wife and I did the Cleveland Way in May of 2023. We are from western Canada so it was a very different landscape for us. We thought it was fabulous.
What month are you travelling in this video series?

Thanks, really appreciate the comment, always interested in different perspectives on the same trail. Actually did this January 2024, I bet May was very different! Cheers

Looks like some of the worst weather you've recorded hiking these long distance trails in!

Yep, the recording and re recording was certainly a challenge. Thanks for the watch and your continued support of the channel. Cheers

Great video! I did the C2C last September, so followed most of this route. Overall, our walk was very wet (our Day 1 was as wet as your day here), but we were lucky enough to have a clear day on the walk to Clay Bank Top, and it was one of my favorite days. I’m sorry you didn’t get the views! Can’t wait to watch your next video.

Glad you enjoyed the video and do hope you enjoy the full series. For info #2 was published yesterday and #3 will be next Tuesday 27th Feb at 4pm. I also did the C2C last year in late July and the weather was mainly wet and overcast! I can recall Clay Bank Top quite vividly as we did a wild camp in the misty rain, if your interested a link to C2C is here ua-cam.com/video/YmKwewXbBiY/v-deo.html and you will be able to compare our experiences which I'm always interested to hear. Thanks for watching and I do really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Cheers

Nigel, cracking vid. It was great to see this in winter time - I did (two thirds of) this trail in the summer of 2018 and got as far as Robin Hood's Bay - then I had 3 nights based at the YHA in Scarborough, and ended up lazing about instead of doing the last 2 legs, which I have regretted ever since. It is one of my favourite walks. It's a pity you didn't see the Abbey - I walked there and back from Helmsley the day before I walked the Way, and met an apple eating sheep. I loved your atmospheric day #2 - when I was last up on those moors (in 2019) it was dry, but blowing a gale - I think I would have preferred the rain. I'm looking forward to viewing the rest of this one, especially part 3, which would be the bit I didn't end up doing. Cheers.
On another note, I did notice a couple of weeks back that your Settle to Carlisle Way videos had disappeared from UA-cam, which was the reason I came to your channel in the first place - that is a walk that has been on my list for a while (not for the railway, mind you, but for the scenery).

Thanks Ryk, glad you enjoyed the vid and the remaining parts of the series are in a similar vein so hopefully you will enjoyed them just as much. I did wonder about the Abbey and would I regret it, however I am lucky living in the north as I tend to make a note of the places I would like to visit/revisit and do a day's outing in the car with my wife. Helmsley, and a few other places managed to get on my revisit list and I do hope to return as a tourist when the weather is a bit kinder.
Yes the S-C way. It was a tough decision but in the end I think the right one. Happy to share the reasoning at some point in the future when we hopefully meet in 2025. Certainly a great trail to do for the scenery, less so if you're interested in trains!
      Cheers, Nigel

my word - i know it rains a fair bit in that part of the world - but it really was doing what it said on the tin there. i think you might need to get laminated. lovely vid.

Ha, there was times on the trail that I thought I must be, but strangely I did enjoy myself, especially as it felt like it had been a long time since I was so alive outside. Thanks for watching and I do appreciate the comment. Cheers

Scary stuff, hope the weather improves, although rain seems to be more the norm at the moment, well done and great viewing.

    • @AmblingTrails
      @AmblingTrails  7 місяців тому

Yep, the norm of typical moorland weather, although thankfully mixed terrain and so mixed weather on this trail. Thanks for watching and I do appreciate the comment.

Sorry you got bad weather for this one because the Cleveland way is beautiful. I've walked it myself many years ago and I've always intended to walk it again. I love the Cleveland way, hope the weather improved for you on this trip! Looking forward to the next instalment.

I love Helmsley. We used to drive to Osmotherly when we lived there in the 60’s. It was my dream to live there. Enjoyed your video as always. Wish I could be out there. But, Happy Mardi Gras!😊❤

Funnily enough the Pastor at our church is from Great Ayton. Turns out he was on the ice hockey team with my cousin in Billingham. Small world!
