I have never seen you so energized and relaxed. It was wonderful. Thank you for this video, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have never seen you smile so much and was so happy you had company to talk to. Yaaaay!❤
What an experience to see, hear, and feel the music you play live, thank you for visiting Texas.
You look so happy Tiffany, can't wait to hear you in London next month!
Okay, after you inspired me to love Schumann, even now little tiffany inspired me to pick up some Joplin's works😂 thank you for being such an inspiration 🤍
Hehe Joplin is quite fun to play! Glad you're exploring different composers with me 🤗❣️
Sight reading those left hand jumps is really impressive! I also like the edit with young Tiffany 😄 Fun gig blog!
Edit: Okay, I finished the video and I loved the program and environment. We need more classical performances in venues like this!
At least I now know why they don't use chairs.
Every moment of this was unexpected and wonderful!! I never imagined in all these years that'd we ... a) see you eating at a Texas pit BBQ, b) hear you doing Scott Joplin, c) on a Yamaha, d) wearing 'funky pants', e) playing at a Texas pit BBQ!! The only thing missing was a "Hey howdy y'all" !!! This was OUTSTANDING!!!
What a treat hearing additional composers from your repertoire Tiff, especially in a spontaneous and organic fashion! Never imagined you playing Joplin and I loved every note. ❤
It's enjoyable to see the spontaneity of how you came up with the programme almost up until the last moment and that there was a takeaway of ideas from other people with diverse backgrounds influencing your approach. It's among what makes art alive. This vlog's full of quirky energy, and it's great to watch.
Playing Joplin's lovely classical, ragtime pieces at that venue made me think this was a homage to a 19th century saloon. It looked so fitting. Also, seeing you sightread them motivates me to improve my own skills at that.
PS: Just saying, you seem to have forgotten to link your KMFA interview in the description.
Seeing you play - and enjoy - Maple Leaf warmed my heart.
your best video ever .. you are such a joy . i love JOPLIN
It's wonderful to hear Ragtime from you! very unexpected!
Been playing maple leaf rag recently and it's so crazy but I randomly thought earlier TODAY about if you'd ever play Scott Joplin on this channel, and here you are playing maple leaf too, how? (My day has been made)
Just started practicing it as well. Surreal to see her also in it. Small world
I love playing Scott Joplin rags like the entertainer and maple leaf rag, fabulous pieces iam humbly speaking a self taught pianist from the age of 15yrs old iam 53yrs old now, and these pieces are still with me, but I also love playing classical pieces like Beethoven and Mozart sonatas, I recently managed to teach myself to play Mozart sonata k 331 theme and 6 variations and rondo alla turca ( menutto learning) and the k332 Mozart f major 1st movement is now played nice and fluently and 2nd and 3rd movement a bit patchy but I am pleased with my progress, music and playing the piano 🎹 is a wonderfull God given gift to have, 😃
Like what I saw from another commenter, I’ve never seen you so happy and relaxed in a video before. I’m super happy for you. Keep it up.
Wow, this vlog was amazing on so many levels! It was an absolute blast to watch. Where to start? So many performers and genres! The atmosphere was truly unlike anything in which you’ve participated. I’m so used to the classical hall venues and then to wrap my head around a Texan BBQ place! (As an aside, Texas BBQ is one of the best.) Your program was pretty incredible and your performance from the things you shared and said to the musical program itself was amazing and fun. So much high energy there and I saw the audience from young to older nodding their heads to the beat and rhythm (even a little boy waving his stuffed dog’s paw to the rhythm!) It would have been so much fun to attend. Without a doubt, just when it was unexpected, a venue held in a BBQ joint!! I thoroughly loved all of it, seeing your team, the food, the coffee, the learning, the assessment of the almost-new Yamaha and the keyboard response, sound quality to be expected, the preparation, how you decided on the actual musical program (some super fantastic Scott Joplin there), your subjective thought process…from what I could see, everyone there loved your program. This awesome blog really made my weekend!!!👏🎹🎵♥️
The Liszt you played at the end was incredible!!
Magical! I wish I were at that bar. Please, come to São Paulo, Brazil 🇧🇷
I am an older violin player doing his grades. Your practice vids are a great inspiration to me to keep going. Thank you!
Have you heard Jacques Loussier Plays Bach? You might like it, find inspiration and inspiration. Also, Hiromi Uehara Uehara. They're both jazz coming from a classical background.
Aaaaaahhh Jacques loussier the master ! Yes Jennifer listen how is jazz trio made Bach , Satie, Vivaldi and many more so enjoyable without being treasonous to these monster compositors.
I have been with Loussier music since 1967 and never stopped loving it.
It always makes me happy when I see other pianists playing ragtime.
Wow! You got that Mephisto Waltz No. 1 back in your fingers super quick… insane quality too 🎉
omg i love how your fingers just glide through the keys especially when you started playing seasons December and chopin 😭🙏
LOVE SCOTT JOPLIN!!!!!!!!
I'm glad it was a good trip. I do kind of know what you mean by it being overwhelming. I was just at a work conference a few weeks ago, and it was super interesting, but I was so glad to be home. It was a cool idea to let the environment inspire your set, and it seems to have worked out well. I'm happy to see you are getting to play in less formal settings like you said you wanted to, and I do think it helps with your goal of bringing beautiful music to more people. I would bet money that someone in that room was inspired by you. Take care, and keep striving. ✨
Such a good promotion for music of the sort we call "classical". And wow.
Impressive! I followed your channel for many years. 2 days to learn and memorize Maple Leaf Rag? Amazing! It took me a year to do that and another year to just sound okay. lol... I wish you played more music outside the realm of classical. It's a delight to hear you play some rag. I regret not taking piano lessons as a kid when I had the chance.
Tiffany, your Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 by Liszt was absolutely remarkable
Nice to see you having fun, please play what you like to play!
Gripping, fun, energizing, intense. Love it all.
Tiffany admits she's a cat person. 😽 That would have been my guess since she's an introvert like me, and I'm a cat person, too. Not that I dislike dogs, but cats are cool. 😎
I just started the video. I have to say I hope your experience was warm and happy. We love and cherish our people and our country and hope you felt the love there.
This was a fun show, so glad I got to see you at SXSW!
Fun for me, too! Thanks for coming!
Tiffany you are a very talented lady have faith in yourself we have something huge coming can not say here. You are the best never forget that.
Yes...ragtime for an encore!
Looks like you had quite a bit of fun, and you went with the flow a lot!! I can imagine getting sensory overload at all the goings-on, but it seems like you were actively engaged there pretty much the whole time. your takeaways from all the other performers' sessions were surprising, but made perfect sense, especially the one about audience engagement requiring steady rhythms, and the need to fight the natural tendency to speed up. Seems like you found your voice at this unusually informal event.
Neck stretches are vital!
very new style! I love it.
I think people in such a venue love it, when you also play pretty wild stuff to them.
tech session 6:10 that was a laugh trip, how you played these sparkling fragments.😂
did you ever watch the Marx Brothers playing music?
All I want to say is: it's fantastic, it's contagious! Thank you again Tiffany.
wow I would so love to listen to all the full pieces where you played 10 seconds only!!
One of my favorite videos by you! Bravo.
Currently I am grounded from piano playing due to knee surgery 😢 All the more I enjoy your adventures. I am also listening to the Schumann Diaris every day. Your album is so beautiful. Thank you ❤
You have helped immensely for me to like Schumann ❤🎹🎶🎵
I want to hear more improv from Ms. Poon, meaning, just playing playfully, with mistakes and all.
Hahaaa! Southern Barbeque Belle Tiffany
Amazing!
Super, vielen Dank für das tolle Video!
You inspire me, Tiffany
It would be fun to hear you play “The Graceful Ghost” by William Bolcom😊 but I do love Schumann!
I love that one, I hope she sees this ❤
Really enjoyed this one Tiffany !
This is fantastic. Thank you Tiffany !!!
Welcome to my hometown ❤❤❤
👏👏👏great video 👍🥂
So glad you came to my home state!!!🫶
Fun post!
When I look at her I feel like the world is bright.haha
Great, great video. Looks like you really took in all that SXSW had to offer. The KMFA interview was great loved the backstage scenes. So wish I could have attended the BBQ gig. A vocal mic on the piano, test, test…Hi out there! a very new experience indeed! Great program choice. Hope I get to see you play again in an unusual setting like the NYC CD event, as well as a concert hall. ❤
Fabulous!! An enjoyable vlog!!! Downloaded your app and look forward to using it ;)
Boston?
U rock 🤘😅
👍👌👏 London has six letters!??? 🤔🤣🙏🙏🙏🎼🎵🎶 No indication of your upcoming performances on your website, as far as I can find. 😢😭❤️🥰😘
(My dog howls at Schubert. Have to put him out.) An amazing set. So cleverly thought out. I`ve taken non-classical people to NY Phil concerts and they were flabergasted at the viruosic playing. Think same thing happened here. That`s for being a real promoted of classical music.
I loved your playing The Entertainer and Maple Leaf Rag! (I learned them both on a Yamaha baby grand 😆)
Tiffany, a cat person...
Not if I have anything to say about it🐿
Next city, 6 letters...
Denver ?
Ottawa ?
Boston ?
Durham ?
London ?
Madrid ?
Looking forward to it!🦆
😊
That was really nice. Your were, even if tired, quite relaxed. You should play more ragtime. 😊
You mentioned that you are no longer affiliated with any piano brand. Does that mean you had to give your Steinway back?
Haha, ragtime something I did before classical. Nice memories
i love ragtime.
It's fun!
Hi Tiffany! Long time subscriber here :)
This comment is a bit odd so my apologies for sticking my nose into none of my business land :)
I just finished watching your vlog from 4 years ago when you were in Bologna with Maestro Voglar (you both were amazing by the way, I’d closed my eyes and listen to the short excerpts you recorded and at times it sounded like one person playing both instruments!!!)You were running late and only had ten minutes to eat breakfast. You gave us a quick look at the food assortment on your plate and then off to rehearsal you went. A short while later you complained of a headache.
Now, a short bio. of me.I’m almost 75yo, I have type 2 diabetes , I’m a retired Medical Lab.Tech(45 years) and I’m halfway through Suzuki book one for violin (talk about Striving!). Enough about me.
Your breakfast was out of whack. Not nearly enough Protein, Thus……Headache.
Cheers, Russ.
Toujours aussi belle et talentueuse.
The Chopin snippets in here have me hoping for a Chopin album.
I dunno if you ever played Beethoven's 32nd piano sonata, but the 2nd movement was probably the advent of the "swing" rhythm.
I haven't, but I know what you mean!
Contrapunctus II from Bach’s The Art of Fugue is also known for having a fairly swing-like rhythm, though not to the same extreme as the Beethoven passage you refer to. (I thought that pre-Baroque music was often very rhythmic and syncopated, but I’m not sure about that.)
I don't know what it is about Maple Leaf Rag that makes one want to exaggerate the swing; I've found myself unconsciously doing this when playing this one, too.
Great experience Tiffany. Maybe you could have tried some contemporary piano music, I was thinking of Chick Corea children's Song, you could had some of them easily with the sheet music, it's a bit Jazz but not so far from Schumann Kinderscenes finally. Nice adventure sharing! 🎼😇
Somebody likes you in Texas (to ask you there)... it looks like the place brings the world (and diversity) to the BBQ (for local denizen edification purposes)...
7:33 Nice artistic camera work.
The smile at 8:26 cannot be understood until one sees the smile at 6:24...
The Maple Leaf Rag - I stopped at the hard part, too (it felt... extraneous)...
you are lovely!
I like the BBQ part the best.
❤
Hi Tiffany
Do you try jazz one day?
What do you think abaut this music?
love from a fan😊
Hi Tiffany, I have a little question
I notice that sometimes when I learn a section good, and after a few days I go back to it and notice that I can't play it as good, have you had that happen and if yes then how did you deal with it?
Play tea for two . They will like it
Us lounge players have to deal with all that talking. Sometimes you can't even hear your own playing. Welcome to gigs in TX.
I actually like the funky jeans.
i want to back to piano...😅
I forgot to add J, Loussier playing with Stephane Grappelli
Relax
You talk about classical music and ragtime, plus Joplin being born before Debussy and I wonder, isn't Debussy's Golliwogg Cakewalk inspired by ragtime.. ? Is Golliwogg's cakewalk a classical piece ?
I've always thought of original ragtime as being part of classical music.
You're right. I think Joplin never got to be treated equally in classical because his music isn't played in traditionally classical concert halls. I'm just slower to realize... 25:30
@@TiffanyPoonpianist I hadn't realized about the caption in your video ! Tks for letting me know 🥰 Joplin's 'Bethena, a concert waltz' is one of my favourites, I wonder if you'd like to play it or sightread it in your channel. 💗😉
What is the name of the piece from the first seconds of the video? Is it Mendelssohn?
Schumann's Kinderszenen No.1 :)
@@TiffanyPoonpianist Thank you! I'm your fan! Greetings from Venezuela
Thumbs up for the leather jacket
At the radio station, a Steinway Model A?

@-Tlffany_poon WOAHHH A REPLY? I've peaked🤣🤣🤣
Nah, I just meant that the music makes me happy. Thank you
Bummer, didn't know you were playing here in the area. I listen to KMFA in spurts, but it's been some time .....ops.
I like your jeans.
:O
puzzle, eh? 6 letters, hmmm... Berlin, Boston, Dallas, Denver, Geneva, Lisbon, ➡London ⬅, Madrid, Naples, Quebec, Sydney, Vienna, Warsaw, Zurich...
One of your guesses is correct 👀
🇬🇧🙊
Noice
Rain
a symphony orchestra
there is a thunderstorm
they are playing Wagner overture
and the people leave their seats under the trees
and run inside to the pavilion
the women giggling, the man pretending calm
wet cigarettes being thrown away
Wagner plays on
and they are all under the pavilion
the birds even come in from trees
and enter the pavilion
and there is the Hungarian Rhapsody # 2 by Liszst
and it still rains, but look
one man sits alone in the rain listening
the audience notices him
they turn and look
the orchestra goes about its business
the man sits in the rain, listening
there is something wrong with him,
isn't there
he came to hear music.
( I was not there but friend of mine told me about it)
Charles Bukowski
blend classical music with good poetry
and you get magic
What happened with Steinway?
Sorry to hear that the Steinway collab ended. Did you have to give up the nice piano at home?
She bought her own piano and returned the loaned one so that may have freed her up.
I see, so she's happy with that. Like to hear that.
