- Amorphis surely is one of the most original bands coming from Finland. With their second album they combined catchy guitar melodies, death metal vocals, keyboards and clean vocals - with Finnish mythology! Exciting. Late's take a look at this album called Tales from the Thousand Lakes.

In my opinion, this is the best album in all of music.
Amorphis is, probably, my all-time favorite band. I got into them around 1999, and haven't looked back since. This era & Elegy, are, by far, my favorites from them, but the earlier pure Death Metal and later stuff like, Skyforger, are fantastic! To my knowledge, Amorphis are the one and only band in existence to release two groundbreaking albums in a row with TftTL's and Elegy, too.
I've also got the cover art the Black Winter Day artwork tattooed on my arm, haha.
Classic one of my favorite and i love it.
We’re about the same age. Love this album but I pretty much enjoy their whole discog as I do Enslaved’s.

Nice review! Into Hiding is one of my favourite songs from Amorphis. I saw their beer called "Amorphis - Legacy of the thousand lakes" at K-market in Turku (the big one near the stadium). The beer was delicious!
Thanks. I've tasted and reviewed two Amorphis beers over the years and both have been among the better ones of metal band beers from Finland.
This cd was epic when I was a kid...in a place where rap...country...and ppl think Pantera is the best metal bands of all time lol
Interesting that you picked Drowned Maid as your fave - I think Oppu Laine also liked this one best because it was the most uptempo piece. It's one of the 4 songs they will play routinely on tour these days - Into Hiding, Castaway and BWD being the others of course.
Just a good drive with that song and melodies ofc.
Amorphis used to be one of my favorite bands back in the day. TOATL, privilege of evil and karelian ishtmus is some of my all time favorite death metal albums. Dont know if its just teenage nostalgia or if it would be just as good if i discovered them today. Even elegy is not that bad but i feel amorphis lost their way after that. With Tomi Joutsen they reinvented themselves and got back some of the old elements, but its still not the same as those early albums.

tales was a good album, not sure if elegy or tuonela were, but they sure did make me forget about the band. amo' came back to my mind with skyforger tho', perhaps those two albums and time around there were not just for me then, but tales were nice. is nice.
i've recently been listening through them old cd's from the pimple years and to compare them to the stuff teen people get these days, i say we were lucky.
tried to look around your previous challenge a classic things, and if my eyes are not made of wood, you have not challenged "enslaved:frost" yet, or "cradle of filth:principle of evil made flesh".
thats if, one considers such as classics.

Always thought that the artwork was better than the music within. Earlier the better with Amorphis for me.
