It broke her...thank God she healed and met my dad. This happened over 30 years ago... Flashforward, when my Mom would meet (bumped into him) the guy again, I was already a teenager...his life was miserable! No woman was able to stay in a marriage with him. No wife, no kids, no stable jobs. He became miserable and indirectly told my mom he regretted everr treating her the way he did...but it was too late.
Note to all women who are going through this... if the man has not invested in you, DO NOT invest in him. DO NOT confuse the "jealousy" towards you moving on with another guy as him loving/wanting you as his woman... he just doesn't want you to have your time, resources, or energy geared towards anyone else where he wouldn't have access any longer as he finds and prepare for his life and the one he wants to be with.
