I think I've listened to all their songs and haven't found any of them bad or even mediocre. I do have some favorites though. Adabana, Raitei, a ray of light, zen just to name a few. They also have some excellent covers of both japanese and western origin. Enjoy discovering this awesome band's work.

Nemophila - "baby blue eyes" flower, "Rurikarakusa" in Japanese; grows in N-America and is appreciated in Japan (see "Hitachi Seaside Park"). The band was formed in 2019, originally as a "session" brought together by... Mayu - the vocalist (ex- Lipstick band); Haraguchi-san - bass, backing vocals, was Mayu's friend and colleague from Music College (ex - Holderlins band); Tamu Murata - drums, backing vocals, one the most respected session musician in Japan (countless bands), with also her own original carrier; she's also the wife of Akira Yamaoka, musician/composer, known especially for his videogames OSTs, in particular for "Silent Hill"; Saki (ex - "Mary's Blood" band for a decade, and others), she's a "young sacred monster" in J-metal) guitar, backing vocals, and... Hazuki (Li-sa-X / KOIAI bands) - guitar, backing vocals; both, Saki and Hazuki have a lot of experience. With their "jigoku no yurufuwa band" (transl. thank you for the full rundown right now. I really appreciate it. I am going to see what I can do to possibly bring the band to the podcast for an interview. I have heard that they have a better grasp of English compared to some other Japanese bands, so I gotta give it a shot
Glad you instantly noticed how good the drummer is - Tamu Murata is actually one of the best japanese drummers around. She's a jazz-fusion drummer at the core, but totally versatile as you can see. She's a multi-instrumentist too (keys, guitar, bass and even sax) and a much demanded pro drummer.
So just a little backstory that not many people on this channel know about, but I did try and be a drummer between the ages of 10-14, but I never stuck with it. However from having a certain love for the drums, there is always something that I notice when the drums and drummer are doing something that amplify the band, and this is it. You can see the versatility that she has and how much ability that gives her and the band to play around with different styles and understand how to make it sonically flow from one section to the next. It isn't common to find a drummer that can consistently do that with quality
It is different analyzing music in this reaction way compared to when I do it for a podcast interview. In a reaction style, I get one listen and then I have to go right from there. When I do it for an interview, I typically listen to the song 3 or 4 times before starting to write down my thoughts to fully understand where it is going. Reacting blind takes that and puts it in a rushed spot where that room to breathe is lost. I do get what you're saying, it is the nature of the beast on a first reaction.
Yes, Hanabie are a bit more manic, Nemophila are more varied and can pretty much do any style under the sun; brutal to punk to nu metal to fluffy ballad and Hazuki and Saki are face-melting shredders. They have a bit more refined sound overall. Next up: "Rise" "Adabana" "Style" "Enten" I should add that they have a an album of covers coming out in November, where they cover Metallic, Slipknot, Pantera and others. They have TONS of covers that they've mad videos for and they are ALL really well done (I like many of them better than the original!) including a GREAT cover of Hanabie's "O-Saki ni Shitsureshimasu (Pardon Me, I Have To Go Now)"
Thank you for the update on the cover album coming out in November. I might be able to use that information to bring them to the podcast for an interview. And there is much more to discover about this band. I just saw Hanabie last night and it was manic (as I am wearing their tour shirt now). And thank you for the suggestions, I will go down the rabbit hole with Nemophila with these reactions
@@chordprogressionpodcast Great show. got to see Hettsu and Matsuri out in the parking lot before the show and they went over to the coffee shop across the street. Couldn't believe the luck! 🤘
Very good choice with Nemophila 🤘🤘 My personal favorite is still this: NEMOPHILA / 雷霆 -RAITEI- [Official Music Video] Every morning on the way to work to find my motivation and get into the right mood
All 5 are fluffy "Monsters", they also have a song by that title worth checking out during your upcoming journey with them :) They do have an effect on top of Mayu's harsh vocals in this video, but if you listen ot any of their live stuff you'll quickly learn she needs no help, and the effect was purely a stylistic choice. There's actually 2 guitar solos in this (and most) Nemophila song. First was by Hazuki, second was by Saki.
Sweet thank you for the suggestion. I love when comments like this come in because I get to learn more about the band, about what makes them who they are, and find out there are typically 2 guitar solos. I love it
Hanabie opened a show in Nagoya for Nemophila a while back this year. Can you just _imagine_?!? I've seen Nemophila live a couple times, and bot left me with that "in the presence of greatness" vibe. My favorite band, full stop.
That show would have been wild. Now you got me kinda jealous because Hanabie by themselves was great, but add Nemophila to the top of it would be even better
Can only second what ppl are saying about nemophila being dope in the comments, my recommendations i heavily suggest are Rise, Adabana and hypnosis. Absolute BANGERS
Diving into the world of Japanese metal (Babymetal, Nemophila, Band-Maid, Lovebites, Hanabie) has been a fantastic journey and looks like many agree. Thank you for the suggestions. I will do more
Haven’t seen a Nemophila reaction in a while, yours got recommended so I said what the hell. These ladies have put out several live videos in the past few months, Oiran, Revive, Seize the fate, and Change the World. If you really want to see what these ladies are all about I would watch one of these live videos.
2 things. First thank you for checking out the reaction and giving some of your time. I really appreciate that. Second with the live videos, I have had people telling me to check out the live videos for other bands I reacted to but haven't seen live yet (Band-Maid and Hanabie specifically). I typically stay away from live videos until I see the band live so I can truly experience it the right way
The members of nemophila are musicians from different bands. They are all excellent musicians. And nemophila is a very unique and diverse band, with various genres of music appearing in their catalog. I recommend《oiran》live(recent upload) as the next!🤘🏻🌸🤘🏻
The one issue I have with live performance videos is a personal one. I like to stay away from live video reactions because when I see the band live for the first time, I want to go in with no expectations or premonitions of what might happen. I want to feel it for real. So I hope they tour the US soon.

thank you sir. If i ever mess up the pronunciation in the first reaction, i get comments like this and then won't mess it up in the next one. It helps me learn and properly respect the band and the language as well. Thank you again
@@RazvanMihaeanu - Yes the person previously referred to as "a woman" is probably the most influential Japanese female metal artist ever (special shout to Naoko Yamano of Shonen Knife - also a heavy music revolutionary in Japan). Not only paving the way, and literally providing the platform for heavy female artists, but on her own band's journey (Show-Ya, as you mentioned - started in 1981!!! and still going strong after a 7 year hiatus) helped take them from their original poppy sound to the heavier albums Outerlimits and Hard Way. Also worth mentioning is that Keiko turned 60 in July - belated happy birthday - which raises the question - how is it that Japanese women never seem to age? I'm 61 and look twice as old as Keiko.

That isn't surprising because I have heard some vocalists talk about finding uncleans and fry easier than clean singing.
