Both Danish and Swedish evolved from Old Norse, so all three languages are very similar, especially the written language. I would also venture to guess they (the royals in all three countries) learn all three languages, and converse in the language of the country they are visiting.

1:03:30 why didn't HM King Frederik raise his hands in salute, but lowered his hat? the requirement is to wear a military uniform to raise his hands in salute🙏🩵
Did you notice the wierd look King Harald gave him when he did that? Like, what the hell are you doing. In my opinion, it was probably because he was too lazy to hold his hand up. He did the same in Sweden. But King Frederik has always been sloppy with these things, often forgetting to salute. His father, Prince Henrik, was the same. His brother, Prince Joachim, is always correct though.
Technically, it's the same thing. Originally, up until the early or mid 1800s, it was the custom to remove your hat. It still is, if you for example wear a top hat, you salute by taking your hat off. Then, it started in the navy, and later spread to the army as well. They thought it was too much hassle, on and off with your hat every time you walked past an officer, so they made an exception. You only needed to bring your hand up to the hat. That is basically the origin of the military salute. A strange developement happened in the early 1900s. If you look at those who served in the military before world war one. Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany, King George V of the UK, King Haakon VII of Norway, King Gustaf V of Sweden. You can find many old videos of them. They all salute with a loose fist. Meanwhile. The next generation, with King George VI of the UK, King Olav V of Norway, King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden, they all saluted with a flat palm. In most of Europe and America. it is always palm down. In the UK, France and their colonies, it is palm down in the navy, but palm up in the army. BTW. When you are not wearing a hat, you salute by bowing your head.
@@ruralor I agree that Frederik, at least when Crown Prince, seemed a bit nonchalant when it came to military formalities like inspecting Guards of Honour etc. But I don't think the King was too lazy to put his hand up. He was in fact quite consistent in his way of saluting, as he did remove his hat again at the wreath laying ceremony at Akershus Castle later in the day.
