Sahrani was the main map of Arma 1, United Sahrani came in with the expansion. The differences are that the original has a border going through the middle with fortifications and so on, while the united one no longer has these (in lore, the Sahrani was united after the war in Arma 1)
"I cant see the point with this map..." lol- Oh man, even if the map is small and mostly desert you can do so much with it. The only limitation is your fantasy. I remember I had a mod for A2 that could spawn in whole towns/cities where you wanted. Or epic tankbattles in the desert etc. A2 maps were just over the top back when, im really happy they now are in A3 - i just DL CUPS and yah that was a lot of GB's but finally i can start explore A2 in A3.

By the way, also check out CUP Terrains 2.0, it has an updated version of Chernarus with higher density terrain grid and new areas in the north.
