That was my goal to make an introductory video. This is basically how I end up explaining to my students year after year so I thought it would be useful if I make it into a video.
Hi Victor, I am not sure if you're teaching in order, but if you're taking requests, can you do a series on Nitrogen containing compounds? I remember dealing with Nitrogen being so tricky in beginning o-chem.
I'm kinda between topics right now, so I thought I'd do a bit of spectroscopy. I was thinking to dive into alcohols next. Amines and nitrogen in general is the second semester topic, so I was planning to deal with it next semester. But I might push it forward to this semester.
Thanks! And no, not yet. I have such a backlog of stuff that needs to be either added or edited or rewritten on the website... sigh. But it's on the to-do list for this semester, so, hopefully, I get some time to put it all together soon.
IR peaks are always given as ranges because they will always be slightly different for different molecules. But if you have a literature values for a specific compound, then yes, it’s always going to show there.
We are making ZnO nanoparticles from leaf-extracts. I have few samples and I performed IR spectroscopy. I made these samples with different innitial parameters like temperature, leaf-extract concentrations, precuraor salts etc. It affected the size of particles and amount of particles. How do I compare the IR spectra of these samples. I've Identified the functional groups which are same in all sample but I don't what info I can draw by comparing these graphs.
IR alone cannot tell you the exact structure. You need to have additional information. At least, the molecular formula. Then, with some practice, it's possible to figure out the structure for a simpler molecule.
Добрый день! Вопрос: если спектральные данные были собраны листоввм спектрометром, я могу эти данные использовать, чтобы проанализировать этим методом? Спектрометр собирает значения абсорбции, отражения и трансмиссии. Спасибо!
@@mashikc3no При желании, как говорила Верочка из "Служебного Романа," можно и зайца научить курить... я в этом видео рассказываю, как расшифровывать ИК чистых веществ. Если вашим листовым спектрометром можно снять спектр чистого вещества, то собственно, почему бы и нет. Это, конечно, будет все равно, что школьной линейкой измерять глубину Олимпийского бассейна, т.к. листовые спектрометры не так точны и не для того созданы, ну это я так, бубню не по делу. А если уж вы таким образом собираетесь делать какие-то выводы о листе растения или его составе, ну это уже измерение средней температуры по больнице, и какие из этого можно сделать выводы, я если честно, с трудом представляю.

Nice presentation. Is it possible to always get the same peaks in literature, or sometimes you can get different peaks?

What to do if my professor tells us to know exactly how the molecule look like and we must read the fingerprint weave?

@ on the exam we only know about molecular formula for example C6H14O but my biggest problem is when I must draw the structure

Насколько я понимаю, листовой спектрометр работает в видимом спектре, а не в ИК.

Так можно эти методы использовать? В НИР ведь тоже есть биохимия листа. Спасибо.
