- Wilhelm Keitel, the eldest son of the landowner Carl Keitel and his wife Apollonia, was born 22 September 1882 in Helmscherode, then part of the German Empire. Keitel was described as a conscientious and diligent officer, who often worked at the expense of his health. In the autumn of 1932, he suffered a heart attack and double pneumonia. In January 1933, when Hitler came into power, Keitel was in a Czechoslovak sanatorium in the High Tatras. From 1935, Keitel served as Chief of Staff to the then Minister of War Werner von Blomberg. On 4th February 1938 Keitel was appointed head of the Supreme Command of the Armed Forces or the OKW, which bore responsibility over the army, navy, and air force.
This came as a surprise not only to the General Staff but also to Wilhelm Keitel himself as everyone knew that he was not suitable for the job.
However, Adolf Hitler quickly assumed supreme command of all German armed forces, thus almost immediately superseding Keitel's authority. The Supreme Command of the Armed Forces was in effect Hitler’s military staff. On the 12 March 1938, German troops entered Austria, and one day later, Austria was incorporated into Germany. Thousands turned out to greet Adolf Hitler. For his participation in the annexation, which became known as the Anschluss and which was the Nazi German regime’s first act of territorial aggression and expansion, Wilhelm Keitel was awarded the Anschluss Medal. The Second World War started on the 1st of September 1939 when Germany invaded Poland.

@@johnpendarvis7885 its a matter of proportionality. The racist war on the Eastern Front perpetrated by the Nazi's was the greatest affront to human dignity the world has ever seen. It was a racist war of extermination, racist subjugation and racist removal resulting in the deaths of over 65 million people. And it was perpetrated by over 2 million nazis's and their allies who knew exactly what they were going to do and did it. What was done in return was justified retribution that could not possibly equal what was done to them. The Nazis's constructed a world of over 1000 concentration camps in the areas under their control to subjugate, dehumanize and mass murder innocent people, women and children and old men. You have seen this in Schindlers list. Just go to a concentration camp look at the sign Arbeit Mach Frei and then go into the torture chambers and see the remains of the crematorium and you will begin to understand the incredible inhumanity that was dolled out. And you cannot even imagine what would have happened. My uncle, an American flyer, was summarily executed by the Nazis's when his plane was shot down. His brains were instantly blown out. So wake up send see what was going on then.

Perripoint was a consummate professional. He considered his work as both an art and a science. His intent was always to do what he had to do with a perfection which included the least mental and/or physical distress to the condemned possible. He felt that his job was to exact the payment from the condemned determined by the law without emotion or prejudice and nothing more. This appears to be the principal difference between himself and Woods.

This is wrong. The German surrender took place on Luneburg Heath to General Montgomery. The two following signings were to satisfy those that felt left out. Rather childish I feel.

Has history misjudged him? He wanted to be a farmer and take over his father’s property but found himself thrust into the limelight of Hitler’s orbit. Had he died from his heart attack or been looked over for promotion he could have lived out the war as an insignificant none combatant. The argument that he was just obeying orders denies he wasn’t complicit in genocide. His actions were that of a man caught in a whirlwind. His death sentence was justice for the murders he ordered.
“Lebensraum”. Isn’t that what the settlers are doing in the occupied territories? They threaten Palestinians to give up their land while setting up farms themself. How can Zionism get so distorted?
