The point you make about defender / attacker fixture difficulty is a really good one. A lot of people don't seem to get this including a lot of fpl UA-camrs ironically.
The don’t listen to the noise tip is a really good one. When Wolves came in I really wanted to have Raúl Jimenez in my team and Twitter/Reddit told me it was a dumb choice. He ended being such good value that season I believe at 5.5m. Same with Bamford I saw Twitter saying he can’t finish any shots so steer clear but he ended up popping off. So if you’re reading this and want that cheaper striker/midfielder go for it doesn’t hurt to go against the grain every once in a while.
Big at the back is always the logic to start the season, because naturally we see those premium defenders who are so good in attack, and think those teams will be solid at the back. But then, as always, the season starts, and what happens is City/Chelsea/Liverpool concede incredibly stupid consolation goals when 3:0 up, and you end up with a Trent and James assist out of it all. At the same time - after a couple of gameweeks we figure out and we see who are the players and teams that are in form, and suddenly, while Trent, James and Chilwell got us 12 points, in comes Bowen, or Mount, or Haaland along with suddenly nailed on Doherty and we see that 3 of those got like 60 points in 2 gameweeks. My point is, your latest draft looks mouthwatering, but I'm almost sure it won't do so good. Won't do bad for sure, but also, won't do too good. I just stayed with the initial idea - I do have Dias, Trent, Ederson and James, but I also have Williams and White, which allows me to have Salah, Diaz and Mount, along with Haaland and Jesus up front. P.S. Sorry for going off topic a bit, I'm commenting your latest draft here as I think this vid is the most relevant, being the newest.
Following the "template" can only carry you so far, when Solanke or Mitrovic get a penalty in the 89th minute so many "big at the back" clean sheets will get wiped Having said that I do have Trent Robbo double up to compensate for No Salah
Your point is why for me it is necessary to have a flexible team structure. I have a 8m in midfield because, even though I don't love any of them for week 1, I do think having that 8m slot open for changes is quite important. Of course I'd be able to take hits and change my team structure but that isn't ideal.

Don't be afraid to take a hit whenever needed. A -60 or -80 across the season seems like a huge points loss.. but could potentially lead you to getting players in before they haul allowing you to climb the ranks.
Another top, I may have mentioned is don't become obsessed with players with similar skills, values and playing style, Salah/son, de bruyne etc will be close to each other on points come season end, barring injuries, and noticable loss of form, so one over the other isn't really gonna make a tremendous difference in the long haul
The trouble is a few bad weeks during the season mean it's extremely hard to catch up sometimes, if you want to be really good at this you all have to pretty much commit to semi micro managing your team every game of the season
All great tips from my viewpoint. On safe picks vs punts, I wouldn't go 15 safe but would include at least 1 punt because they can pay big dividends if you get them right.
I’ve always thought its best to spread the value of your somewhat evenly. That way you can use the price rises to fund for bigger players when they’re in form.

I’ve decided to take a slightly risky strategy to the start of the season, it could well backfire but when I first started my team I went with a strong back line which I’ve now switched from to a 343 however my thoughts are with the wildcard likely to come into play around GW 6 or 7 if it doesn’t work I can switch it up then, I’ve covered off the big hitters like Salah but instead opted for Robertson instead of Trent, my front line is Haaland, Jesus and Martial just to be slightly different with my midfield being Salah, Rashford, Sterling & Martinelli. Could backfire like I said but could also be genius … I hate this game 😂
I quite like that team. I'm tempted by sterling, but I found my defence a lot weaker unless I only go one premium. At the moment I have Trent robbo and cancelo, may or may not have James. Too
I’ve still got the flexibility as well if the Martial move doesn’t pay off after the Brentford game I can just do the double switch and downgrade him for a 4.5 mil and upgrade a defender to a premium, I don’t have a city defender which is my only worry but a lot of time left yet I’m sure my team will change completely 😂
@@menzies09er Martial is just an early season differential punt and could easily back fire but if Ronaldo leaves or the discussions carry on before the season starts Martial is guaranteed to start with the front lint of Sancho, Martial, Rashford still a punt but can easily switch him to a premium defender if it doesn’t work after 2 weeks, Rashford at 6.5 is a safe bet and when compared to the likes of Trossard an Sinisterra or Odegaard he’s a no brainer

Just a side thought.... isn't it about time some of the shirts on the background changed? Surely Christian Atsu & Leighton Baines have served their time by now? Haha 😂
I think stats are useful but misleading as well, you can chip it to the keeper ten times and he gets easy saves, that means the player has 10 shots on target and the keeper 10 saves, and that is technically correct but is worthless information if you haven’t seen the game
@@LetsTalkFPL I understand what you are saying and I agree with a lot, don’t take this the wrong way, but isn’t shots on target part of the xG calculation?
@@robertoletts8815 xG would take into account positioning and distance etc. So if you're just chipping balls to the keeper that are never likely to go in they'd have a really low xG chance.
Stats work. Expected stats don’t. I am one hundred per cent confident that it will lead you to making poor decisions. However, as Andy said, it’s a barometer to a good and bad player and how they perform compared to their expected data.
I started using expected data 2 seasons ago and it's got me back to back top 10ks, very happy with how expected data has worked so far! Lets see this season.
@@LetsTalkFPL Can’t disagree with that. However, we don’t have the version of events whereby you didn’t use them so it’s impossible to isolate influences. That’s also the time the community exploded for example. What I always try and labour is this isn’t my opinion, mathematically, I have two degrees in engineering including statistics at A-Level, mathematically, it /literally/ is not helpful or “predictive”. With one caveat to team performance, for example potentially Liverpool concede more big chances and thus have a higher Xgc than City but may concede fewer goals. Why? Alison makes more saves. But it’s very specific, mate.
@@craigglassford8533 Well, especially now, you have the whole of last season’s /actual/ stats, coupled with past performances of teams, managers and players. If you really want specifics. For forwards, shots in the box and conversion rates which, are player specific and not based upon a league average of every single player. Goals scored isn’t too far off Xg for the big players last season but Xa is all over the place. But the biggest problem with expected is for unreliable players, Maupay, Watkins, Toney etc because their form is so erratic you only know they might keep having chances. Surely they are the ones you want to forecast. If they were “predictive” they would approximately match up with actual stats after gw38. This is not the case.
…is this potentially when you worked out the importance of captain planning too and with double game weeks etc in covid chip planning? Like I said, pall, we don’t know how much influence all these things had without knowing how you would have performed without each one.
I think you're really overestimating Crystal Palace. They won just FOUR away games last season and Liverpool beat them 3-0! Newcastle and Fulham are harder fixtures imo.

Diaz Martinelli
Haaland Kane Jesus
What do you think?
Ten Hag will transform the club, watch.
Nice
Thoughts on my starting XI, ps it’s a 3 premium team.
Meslier
Trent White Cancelo Jonny
Salah(c) Bailey Kdb Neto
Jesus Kane(v)
I think KDB is not gonna get as much points as you want. There are prob better options than him. You can downgrade kdb to a 8 mil midfielder, get martinelli and upgrade white and Jonny.
This is mine
Gk - Ederson
Def - cancelo, TAA, Robertson, zinchenko
Mid- rashford, salah, martinelli, neto
Att- Kane, jesus
BENCH - gazzaniga, bailey, N.Williams, greenwood
Good team
I’d go Son + Haaland over KDB + Kane
@@craigglassford8533 I am not so sure about haaland yet. He will prob be good but I will wait.
Just a side thought.... isn't it about time some of the shirts on the background changed? Surely Christian Atsu & Leighton Baines have served their time by now? Haha 😂
Blasphemy!
I think stats are useful but misleading as well, you can chip it to the keeper ten times and he gets easy saves, that means the player has 10 shots on target and the keeper 10 saves, and that is technically correct but is worthless information if you haven’t seen the game
And that is why you should use xG not shots on target 😃
@@LetsTalkFPL I understand what you are saying and I agree with a lot, don’t take this the wrong way, but isn’t shots on target part of the xG calculation?
@@robertoletts8815 xG would take into account positioning and distance etc. So if you're just chipping balls to the keeper that are never likely to go in they'd have a really low xG chance.
Stats work. Expected stats don’t. I am one hundred per cent confident that it will lead you to making poor decisions. However, as Andy said, it’s a barometer to a good and bad player and how they perform compared to their expected data.
What stats do you use then
I started using expected data 2 seasons ago and it's got me back to back top 10ks, very happy with how expected data has worked so far!
Bro compare Messi with Scott Mc 😌🥶😂
I think you're really overestimating Crystal Palace. They won just FOUR away games last season and Liverpool beat them 3-0! Newcastle and Fulham are harder fixtures imo.
Especially how weak Palace are to set pieces.
Andy that's a shocker, is Messi really better than mctominay?
I know right, Messi hasn’t scored a single goal for Scotland
Mount vs saka go
my #1 tip - don't lose -4 points on extra transfers

Hi
Hey guys and Andy, I’m wondering if anyone can help me, I’m looking to join a few competitive fpls and I’m willing to put the money in, I just don’t know of any competitive leagues. Cheers
"Avoid black and white thinking" This anti Newcastle bias is getting out of hand.
Keep chilwell & james or spread the funds elsewhere?
